Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I don't see Hume and Campbell working at all. No height and no strength. As opposed to Fryatt and Hume?
Geo V Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 McLeod's only 5 ft 11. He's similar to DJ really.I think it'll be Campbell and Hume. Hammond and Hume worked really well at times last season. According to the official MK Dons site McLeod is 6ft (looks it too ) but Ive always thought that DJ looked tiny. Maybe Im wrong and he`ll be a decent target man after all as he is officially the same height as Matty Fryatt! Lets see the photos of him standing with MA to see if he is really a midget
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 As opposed to Fryatt and Hume? It has even less height than that though. And Campbells game has a lot more in common with Humes than Fryatts does. Depends how we play football I suppose, if it's the suggested Hoof ball the Brentford/Mk dons fans have been saying is on it's way to the Walkers it wont work.
Thracian Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I hope you're right, Hume and Dj are the only strikers that excite me at this club, and possibly Fryatt who does normally play his better football alongside Hume. No-one exciting? Perhaps you haven't even considered it but Billy McKay and Ashley Chambers can all do everything Fryatt does and more besides. Yes, it's a bit early for them yet, but some see Fryatt as "the future" when in fact he'll have no chance when those lads emerge. McKay is quick, clever, makes great runs and not only scores goals but spots a pass. Chambers is really quick, runs at people, passes well and scores from all sorts of ranges. He's the closest in style to Fryatt but sharper in all departments at his best. Fans got a glimpse against Quorn when he twice ripped the home defence apart in his limited appearance. Once he got one on one with their keeper but his shot was smothered and the second time Cort ran himself offside so was not able to tuck away Chambers' final pass. Fryatt, of course, could adjust that view with a hat-trick against Mansfield tonight. Hume for the Premiership? He's risen to every challenge here so far. I see no reason he shouldn't adjust to life in the Premiership. Anyone marking Hume has a busy time on their hands and would need to keep their wits about them.
scrivins2 Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 if he cant put the ball in the back of the net in the championship then he wont be able to do it in the premiership. you could say it's because of his midfielders but when he gets the ball he seems to do nothing with it.
dandannieldanok Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 No-one exciting? Perhaps you haven't even considered it but Billy McKay and Ashley Chambers can all do everything Fryatt does and more besides. Of course I have not considered them, they will make a grand total of 0 first team appearances this season so why bother.

In the absence of the two footballers in question and a tape measure, I'll have to resort to your favourite reference website; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matty_Fryatt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dudley_Campbell Hammond and Hume worked well last season and would have worked a lot better if Hammond could finish. I wouldn't mind seeing DJ and Hume up front. We have got Cort for a taller option and Fryatt if DJ has a gig somewhere.

Wezleylowski Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Chambers is really quick, runs at people, passes well and scores from all sorts of ranges. He's the closest in style to Fryatt but sharper in all departments at his best.Fans got a glimpse against Quorn when he twice ripped the home defence apart in his limited appearance. Fryatt, of course, could adjust that view with a hat-trick against Mansfield tonight. I thought about Chambers the other day, he was once one of the most promising players at the club but nowadays the hype around him seems to have died down. I was there at Quorn and i must say that Chambers looked miles better than Cort, and so did Odhiamo. Everyone is all excited about Mattock but we are forgetting Chambers. He might be ready for his first season. I know Cort gives us a fifferent option up top, but this game is about scoring goals and i think that in the future Chambers is more likely to do so than Cort.
davieG Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I hope I am wrong because having two smallish strikers up front would arguably tell us something about the style of footy we are set to play but I honestly cant see MA starting the season without a target man up front. Fryatt may be more suited to partner DJ than Hume but I still have a feeling he`ll be sold and I still have an inkling that we will still get a Joseph Job/Izale MCleod type of striker. We didn't play target man style football against Hinckley in fact it was pretty decent through the middle or down the wings passing albeit direct and fast. Any long balls going I would have classed as passes rather than hoofing. If this proves to be the game plan Allen has for the proper games then I'm optimistic that we will not need to rely on some 7ft giant and we might finally loose our hoof tag. Here's hoping.

So the kids can have a couple of great runs to get your acceptance against a non-league club but Fryatt will need to score a hat-trick against league opposition to get back on par??

It still doesn't change the fact that we're going to have to play a certain type of football with them playing up front togther. I wont be bothred if we keep Fryatt but we wont. He'll go, score shit loads and make us look stupid. When I say us I mean the club, and you lot. Not me obviously.
Dr The Singh Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I'd happily bet you a pint on that. WHile your at Thrac, order me a barbar aswell!!! By the way, Hume at this mo is not prem class but may develop to be prem class!!
Master Fox Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I think quite a few of you forget how good Hume is in the air. He pretty much contested every ball that was lumped up there for him last season. I found it hard to believe given the fact he’s only a little fella. If we need a target man you just throw on De Vries or Cort, but we don't want that. I know the Folwer debate rumbles on, but i would love see him play up front with Hume. It would benefit Hume’s game immensely
Thracian Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 So the kids can have a couple of great runs to get your acceptance against a non-league club but Fryatt will need to score a hat-trick against league opposition to get back on par?? I beg your pardon. I've watched McKay and Chambers lots of times and they've looked pretty exciting players to me, which is what was being talked about. Even at this stage McKay looked every bit as threatening as Fryatt against Oadby (up to the time I left) but if you rate Mansfield as such a tough test I tell you what... Forgot the little smile I put on the end of the hat-trick comment. I'll be well pleased if Fryatt simply gets on the scoresheet. Besides, if the match goes ahead tonight, Fryatt, McKay and Chambers will be on the same pitch and able to make their own statements.

Thing is, if Fryatt goes somewhere else and scores 15 goals, it still doesn't mean it wasn't good business to sell him. He could have gone somewhere last summer, not got injured/unfit/fat/lazy/demotivated/whatever excuse is the latest fashion for him and scored a bagful there. We may have to play a certain kind of football with Campbell and Hume up front but at least they're both quick and can offer an out-ball. With Fryatt you have to pander to his needs and you will always lack strength, height or pace in a strikeforce involving him because he's not strong, quick or tall (unless you bring in Thierry Henry to play alongside him).
Head Honcho Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 If for instance he was to join Newcastle or Villa tomorrow I'd say he'd do a half decent job but I doubt he'd do any good in a recently promoted side unless they'd bought well.
BartonFox Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 There is a reason Iain Hume has spent his career in the lower reaches of the football league or CCC. No one can fault his work ethic but he needs to become more intelligent in his play to be even considered for a top half side in this division. The signing of strikers isn't over so despite his 3 year deal and 4 goals against lower non-league outfits he isn't guarenteed squat in terms of game time.. There is not one Premiership club I can think of where he would be an attacking assest. Lets get over this he could be a midfielder thing as well, perhaps at under 15 but not senior.

I miss BF - he may have made a spectacularly funny gaff, but he was on the money nine times out of ten.
thecannon Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 He certainly does give it all he's got! Which is what the others players should of been doing all season! Not sure he cuts it for premier league though, he might be able to.

Shipman Out Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 Can Iain Hume Cut it as a Premiership player NO! 100% NO! And so far yes is WINNING 64 people on here think Iain Hume can cut it as a Premiership Player!!!! I've never heard such retarded opinion in all my life. Have you people ever seen the Premiership, Dean Ashdon is a striker who came out of the Championship and cut it. David Nugent did not. Iain Hume is Shit and not fit to pass to either player! and should go home and give the puck away whilst playing for Vancover White Sox or whatever the fook in Canada.
