Sly Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I know that we're sick to the back teeth with polls but my mate and I have had argued the toss over this and our opinions differ. We both agree that techinically he's a very gifted player and is capable of creating his own chances. He's tidy and is willing to get stuck in. For thi he believes he can cut the mustard at the top level. My argument is that he's out of position, chasing the game and I don't feel his passing and most important of all doesn't have a good return on goals/games. Now maybe thats down to that standard of the service he got from midfield last season. Maybe, (which I think) he'd actually be better behind a front two/or our on the right. Just wondered what veryone lese thought?
Bluefoxtim Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 His work-rate aside, I don't think he's THAT good.
Flynny Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Depends on the kind of team. At somewhere like Reading, certainly, yes. Maybe Bolton or another hard-working team that suits his style of play. But not at most clubs.
Joe. Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 It's too hard to say. With us he's not being playing in a particularly good team, but has still produced well. Who knows, if he played in a better team you could see him scoring more goals. Then again, he'd be playing against tougher defenders. In my opinion he's just a good Championship player.
The People's Hero Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Don't think he's good enough for the prem, personally.
dandannieldanok Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 He'd bag a few goals but I think it would be a step too far for him, I could imagine that if we went up we would offload him just like Brum have done with DJ for a similar price.
sdb Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 yup i think he's technically very strong (e.g. his finish against Wolves i can't see being repeated by many players), works hard and is pretty fast. good leap, decent finisher. no real weaknesses i can think of. he wouldn;t set the Prem on fire but he'd do well i think
davieG Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 He could well make it to the Premier with a team like us getting promoted but I doubt very much he's got what it takes to maintain a place in that team if they are serious about staying there. I really can't see a Premier team buying him outright. So No!
Tevez Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Nope, i don't think he'll walk into this team this season IMO
Nick Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Great work rate, a real tryer....if he was a mid-fielder I would say he probably would get a prem game, however as a striker due to competition I don't think he's good enough. Sorry Iain.
Ric Flair Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Not sure if he's good enough for the Premiership just yet, but if he continues to improve then he might be in a year or two. He's still only 23 and under a decent coaching set up I think he'll improve. His weaknesses for me are that sometimes he tries to carry the team on his own and that can be un-helpful as we saw towards the end of last season. But when he's on form he's quality and his finishing has improved a lot since we signed him. Consistency is the key for Hume, if he can find that then he's another who could score 20 at this level. I also don't buy in to the myth that he's not a striker just because he likes to drop deep sometimes and run at defenders.
Daggers Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 In the ongoing absence of Barton Fox I will post the following on his behalf: He's barely able to cope with The Championship Nuff said.
Toby or not Toby Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Hes is only 23, so in my opinion he would be good enough placed in the right team, where he maybe doesn't have to run back to central midfield to do someone like Jarett or Andy Johnsons work.
Flynny Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 In the ongoing absence of Barton Fox I will post the following on his behalf:Nuff said. There's normally a word like 'idiots' or 'morons' in there, too.
Geo V Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 He works hard, scores spectacular goals but needs good players around him to help him improve. Forget the premiership though, I doubt he`ll be in the first team for the first game this season with DJ signing.
dandannieldanok Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I also don't buy in to the myth that he's not a striker just because he likes to drop deep sometimes and run at defenders. Amen

I think it will be Hume and Campbell first choice next season, can't see Cort being anything more than an impact player with his injury problems, etc.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 With a similar player in terms of workrate alongside him up front this season we will see the real Iain Hume in terms of ability, one way or the other.

I think it will be Hume and Campbell first choice next season, can't see Cort being anything more than an impact player with his injury problems, etc. I hope you're right, Hume and Dj are the only strikers that excite me at this club, and possibly Fryatt who does normally play his better football alongside Hume.

I think it will be Hume and Campbell first choice next season, can't see Cort being anything more than an impact player with his injury problems, etc. I hope I am wrong because having two smallish strikers up front would arguably tell us something about the style of footy we are set to play but I honestly cant see MA starting the season without a target man up front. Fryatt may be more suited to partner DJ than Hume but I still have a feeling he`ll be sold and I still have an inkling that we will still get a Joseph Job/Izale MCleod type of striker.

McLeod's only 5 ft 11. He's similar to DJ really. I think it'll be Campbell and Hume. Hammond and Hume worked really well at times last season.
