Thracian Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 De Vries 55 appearances 10 goals. Missed chances 2632 Fryatt 52 appearances 10 goals. Missed chances 72 You mean MDV gets into that many more scoring positions than Fryatt? Even I didn't realise it was than pronounced.
Daggers Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 If anyone didn't see the County game yesterday and is wondering who this brand new De Vries is let me just point out that he still makes Momo Sylla look nippy and the turning circle of a cruise liner look tight. As Martin Allen might say: He could do a job. He's not the best person to do that job, he might not have a full tool kit in his tool box but he's got his college-based NVQ and completed some work experience. He's a long way off starting his own business but he's in the shop window and may yet feature on some promotional literature distributed through the local free press.

He's not bald Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Why should a manager "lose patience" with a guy who laid on our opening goal and featured in many of our better moves. And, how was it obvious he'd lost patience?. so you didn't notice MA shouting then?..hey your not omnipetent after all!
Monk Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Bottom line with MDV is that yes, he does deserve a second chance with the team and a second chance from us lot. If he is still shit then you can slate him all you like, but lets face it - MA is not going to play him if he is not in the top 2 of our 5? strikers, so if he is shit, then he wont be playing anyway. period. I for one hope he proves us all wrong and becomes a major player for us this season! I want to see upwards of 10 goals off him though! Big ask for the big man.

Big ask for the big man. He managed 8 in half a season. More than Fryatt and Hammond put together for the WHOLE of last season. He might look clumsy but he does get the job done and its more than we can say about Fryatt and Elvis at the moment.

I want what's best for Leicester City and if that could be Mark De Vries being a top striker and scoring a shed load of goals then fantastic, unfortunately I don't believe in fairytales and I won't be swayed by the fact that he's lost a few pound and has featured in a couple of pre season friendlies against lowly opposition!

I agree after all he still has a year(?) left on his contract so we might as well play him, if nobody else better is brought in meantime, otherwise he'll just be collecting his wages whilst doing nothing for them. Plus MDV is our tallest striker and whilst he may be sh*t in the air we need a big striker. In all honesty I can't see him playin too major a part unless Corts on the physio table too long (which may be the case) and either fryatt (if still here) or hume are injured!
Thracian Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 so you didn't notice MA shouting then?..hey your not omnipetent after all! Of course I saw MA shouting - he's always an animate manager. Every game I've watched including a training game he's taken players to one side and explained what he wants from them. They don't need telling twice but that's his way. He's a forceful character with anyone.

For fook's sake...he was one of the worst players in a shite squad last season..why is everyone jumping (which he can't) to his defence all of a sudden..I've seen no improvement in what he does...if I've missed that then please let me know where and when?

Put it like this would you rather see him: a) stay on the books at lcfc (lets face it nobody else is going to take him off us now) and NOT get played at all then? Just another waster colletcin his wages doing sweet F.A.!! b) same as above EXCEPT he gets the occassional game, as i've already stated, when others are injured, unavailable or other engaged? I know which i'd rather see happen (I'll give you a clue, it isn't the first option )
He's not bald Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 He didn't play for us at all last season. Doh!...really... why was that then?
Thracian Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Doh!...really why was that then? That's a bit harsh - asking me to explain the mysteries of Rob Kelly's management. Indeed, you could have made a film about the Kelly era and called it "The Disappeared" considering the way Ryan Smith, Chris O'Grady, Levi Porter, Alan Maybury, Nil Eric disappeared off the scene at various times, usually for no reason that was ever explained.

Thracian Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 So we have 12 new signings with possibly more to come and we are going to carry passengers!...how long do you think MM will let that go on? In what way was he a passenger against Quorn, Hinckley or Notts County? He set up Hammond's goal at Quorn, scored against Hinckley and teed up Hume's goal against Notts County.

Sometimes you really are quite unbelievable...I have always said Kelly was useless as a manager, from his appointment on day one!...yet since I've been on here you have defended him times without number...not only against me but many other posters..now you start calling him to support your arguements!....that's pathetic

He set up Hammond's goal at Quorn, scored against Hinckley and teed up Hume's goal against Notts County. I didn't say he was a passenger against anyone in these pretend matches...just that when we get to the business end he was...and he will be!
Mr Happy Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 So we have 12 new signings with possibly more to come and we are going to carry passengers!...how long do you think MM will let that go on? I'd imagine that he wouldn't want that too happen for too long... but that said we don't get what we want do we? Unless MM is prepared to pay compensasion packages to the still contracted MDV i doubt he's going anywhere this season.

I might have tried to encourage him on occasions when results weren't as bad as they might but, as Babylon might confirm, I was pretty critical of him from day one and, on reflection, got it about right. Times I lambasted his negative, "defence overload" football, his poor tactics, the teams lack of fitness, apparent lack of coaching on certain basics and umpteen other things. I've fielded some flak at times but never expected to be labelled a Kelly desciple. Yes, there was a time when I thought it would be so disruptive to change our manager again in mid-season I thought it might be best to keep Kelly on. But it was a view expresed with grave reservations and I was forced to change my mind within weeks. I also tried to praise or sympathise with him on rare occasions when it was possible because it couldn't help our cause to be constantly critical. But, overall, his approach and philosophies seemed about as far removed from my idea of management and how football should be played as it was possible to get.
filbertway Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Thank you for your input! No problem It had to be said, he's not good enough.
