De Vries, Odihambo

These two players seem to be getting a fair crack of first team football (albeit in friendlies)...

De Vries, a lot of people still seem to be moaning but ive seen him in two friendlies, set up two goals and has been in the thick of it recently getting stuck in etc. IMO he could be the back up player we might need if things go wrong? Bit like Benjamin was towards the end of 2002/03 season (ooooooooooh trevor trevor!!)

Odihambo, Not seen much of this kidda, but impressed me loads vs Notts County knows how to dribble that ball and heard he scored from 25 yards tonight? Perhaps the next Shaun Newton?

Newton would be flattered by that - cos he only dreams of scoring with Odhiambo's regularity.

Or Doddsy's

Odihambo took his goal very well last night. Hopefully more of the same to come from him and he will develop into a valuable asset for this club.

Thought the Kid Eric had a very impressive game when he came on against Villa in the cup last season(if it was him!)

Took his goal very well V Partick.

DeVries defo deserves another chance under this new regime,as he looks to have trained hard to lose some weight and hopefully he can prove some people wrong!

Agree With you about eric he looks a good consistant player that could be a real asset to us, he is a natural striker but looks very cushty in Right mid , De Vries has definitly lost weight but compared to what we've got now he shouldn't even get a look in , he is still as lazy as he was before just lighter! ;)

If you're going to keep repeating this can you at least use some alternative adjectives to make it a tad more interesting!

Simply magic!

by Bill Anderson

Competition up front has suddenly got hotter at Leicester City with the emergence of “magic†striker Eric Odhiambo.

The 17-year-old struck what City boss Martin Allen described as an “outrageous†opening goal against Partick Thistle in last night's 2-0 win.

And now he must be bracketed alongside Iain Hume, Matty Fryatt, Mark de Vries, Carl Cort and DJ Campbell as an option for one of the two front-running roles.

Allen revealed: “He did something in training last week which was magic, absolute magic, and it was at that moment I decided to bring him up here to Scotland.

“It was a brilliant bit of skill and a brilliant bit of finishing and, standing at the side of the pitch, I thought €˜My God, that's magic!' and I don't often single players out like that.

“The goal he scored was outrageous, a 25-yard volley into the top corner in only his second game. He was not fazed by it, has got great pace and can finish as that goal showed.

“And when he scored, everyone on the bench turned round to DJ Campbell and said €˜DJ, that's what you have to do!'â€

Another bonus to add to the emergence of Odhiambo - who made his City debut last October as a late substitute in the Carling Cup against Aston Villa and who was voted the third best apprentice at the Football League Awards at the end of the season - was a full 90 minutes for inspirational midfielder Stephen Clemence, sure to be part of the nucleus of the new team.

Allen enthused: “Yes, it was another step up for him. For the last 25 minutes he played just in front of the back four and didn't have to do too much running.

“He is a terrific professional, has been working very hard and is a good player.â€

City's pre-season is going very well, especially considering the huge changes which have taken place, a virtually complete new squad and a totally new coaching staff.

The victory was City's fifth in a row. In those games, they have conceded only once, and an own goal at that - and Allen has every right to be pleased.

He said: “At the moment, the results are important because a winning mentality is good, but there is still a lot to work on and practise in training.â€

There was a bit of concern, although clearly not too much, when left midfielder Alan Sheehan went down injured.

Allen said: “The players on the bench were all laughing because he got cramp and it was quite funny the way he went down. He looked like he had been snipered, but he's fine.â€

*City's new blue home shirt goes on sale for the first time at the City Megastore on Saturday.

The store will be open from 8am until 6pm, and on Sunday from 10am until 4pm.

City say they are anticipating one of the busiest trading days in their history as the Foxes revert to a two-year kit cycle following a consultation process with their supporters.

Fans are reminded that the kit is available only at the City Megastore.

Its not that I dont want De Vries to succeed, its just that I find it really difficult to understand why he is still here. He is 32 next month and has spent nearly two years on loan elsewhere. I realsie that we have hada change of management but if you dont want to go on loan and warm some Dutch sides bench, you dont have to. He chose the former option.

Players like MDV and Elvis remind me of the recent past that I am trying to wipe out of my memory. Its time to move on and MDV cant surely be our saviour as a forward option. I think I would prefer to stick in someone like Odihambo. Im still hopeful that one more striker will come anyway but if we dont buy another one, MDV can stay as 5th choice for me but no better.

I always thought he gave his best in games he played and felt he cared about LCFC,but he was admittedly short of quality.

Being Devils advocate here, but doesn't the work that MdV so obviously has put into losing some weight and getting fitter, give him a claim for having another chance under the new management team? :dunno:

2 years too late for me.

That doesnt mean I wont be cheering for the big fella if selected but we owe him and others like Elvis and Maybury nothing.

I'm not saying your wrong about Odhiambo or a new striker but I don't think MDV had much choice about moving. Seems to me Kelly virtually blanked him for some reason...and he wasn't the first.

MDV lost all motivation at Leicester because he had no reason to be any different.

If MA thinks he's doing the job he wants and we're winning football matches then it's hard to argue with his reasoning.

To me there aren't any Horsfield's left any more.

Everyone seems fit, focused and capable of offering us a different option.

I like that. And best of luck to whoever comes out on top and with a future here.

I herd De Vries had to leave for the season as his wages were totally crippling us.

Lets not build the lad up eh? If he can have the career path (minus the run in with the Police) that Newton has had then he should be more than happy

Players are the bosses in football today. If MDV went on loan to another club and was a regular starter, I may see things differently but he has ended up being a bench warmer in pants teams which teams me that he didnt really want to stick around and fight for a place. MDV didnt have to join clubs on loan and could have lost that 2 stone 18 months ago instead of doing it so much later. That weight loss situation typifies that he knew he wasnt in shape 2 years ago and had done fook all about it.

But if Manwell is right, he would lack the motivation to do anything. If I was sent somewhere I didn't want to be because of my salary and, not necessarily, my ability, I'd be well miffed!

Perhaps now he has that motivation again.

A tad harsh as not one of our players was in shape last season because of the f'cking clown that was Rob Kelly.

I hope Preston get relegated now they have employed that nomark willy puller.

I don't give a shit what he did or didn't do 2 years ago or while he was on loan.

He should be given as fair a crack of the whip as anyone in terms of geting in to the team. If Allen thinks he can do a job in the Championship next season then we should play him.

Clean slate for me.

Not sure answers couldn't have been found for that - selling Maybury might have paid for him for the best part of half-a-season - but whatever, your point still suggests MDV had little alternative but to go out on loan.....
