Thracian Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 We're a fortnight away from the new season and most of the new signings have bedded in. First impressions I'm a little disappointed. Nielsen: 5.5 (Hardly been overworked but has not inspired confidence and seems suspect in vital areas). MINUS (so far) James Chambers: 7 (Lively, competent and supportive right back. Suspect on the left). PLUS. N'Gotty 7.5 (Commanding player who plays the ball quickly and simply out of defence). PLUS Clemence 6.25 (Given captaincy. Shown up well at times. Not so well at others). NEUTRAL (LIKELY PLUS). Kishishev 7.5 (Strong, involved and reliable player). PLUS Hayes 6 (Inconsistent. Eyecatching at times, frustrating and careless at others). NEUTRAL Newton 6 (Okay but hardly a consistent impact player). NEUTRAL Cort 2 (For his shots against Quorn. Looks unfit and his catalogue of injuries continues). MINUS Hellings 5 (Skillful enough but seems too lanquid to really take a grip on games). NEUTRAL Sappleton 5 (Only seen briefly). NEUTRAL Ka'ebi 0 (Not seen yet) NEUTRAL Campbell 5 (Lots of hype but no substance as yet) NEUTRAL So of our 12 signings we've got three who already look like pluses and perhaps three whose pedigree suggests they might be pluses. I'd hoped to feel a little more reassured than that. Instead Wesolowski's form and Odhiambo's fleeting success have pleased me most apart from N'Gotty and Kishishev. And our striking problem seems as far from being solved as ever as does the question of where the outfield goals are coming from.
Tevez Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 For some weird reason, I still think Cort is going to start vs Blackpool if fit.
General Smuts Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Sappleton deserves a plus if not for his ledgendary status already! The big man is immense!

City Lad Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I know what you mean but our squad now is in a different universe then last years. At least now we are not fearing being dragged into the relegation scrap.
lildave3 Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I know what you mean but our squad now is in a different universe then last years. At least now we are not fearing being dragged into the relegation scrap. Yet...
Simi Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 For some weird reason, I still think Cort is going to start vs Blackpool if fit. I doubt there is much chance in that, fit or not. He hasn't really had any football under his belt so far, apart from a run out at Quorn I think. So he will be definitely lacking match fitness. Barring injury, I'd be shocked not to see Hume and Campbell as our front two against Blackpool.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Can't judge half of them yet. Going to wait until I've seen them play a few competitive games before I declare myself "disappointed" or otherwise.
Tevez Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Jonny Hayes has been decent, would like to see him in the squad.

Tommeh Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I know what you mean but our squad now is in a different universe then last years. At least now we are not fearing being dragged into the relegation scrap. Don't know about you but I'm bricking it, unless MA can get Elvis firing on all cylinders like last season I predict another year of constant struggles, with bearly our heads above the drop
Daggers Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 Are we going to have another of these threads after the next friendly too - or should we wait until both of them are over and done with? It would be good if we can have threads like this without having played friendlies too, just in case players haven't impressed in training sessions. Yes, threads like this are very important and have a role to play.

Pete_foxes Posted 28 July 2007 Posted 28 July 2007 I'm satisfied with our signings at the moment. Not all that spectacular but also not too shabby. Compare it to the season when we brought in Josh Low & Andy Johnson. Its miles better than than. As for all this about John Hayes. When I saw him against County, you could see what the kid was trying to do, but it just wasn't happening. possibly a combination of trying to hard & not being fully match fit. Hes possibly one to have come of the bench in the last 20 & hope he can make an impact on the game. The goals will come from DJ & Hume i'm fairly confident of that. Hume 13 goals last time around in a faultering line up. DJ I believe scored 12 goals in 20 starts last season. If he maintains that & plays regular then he could be our 20 goal man. The little bit I saw of Clemence he does look a class act in my opinion. Kishishev also good as with Wezo. N'gotty showed some good composure & some wonderful cross field passing which is something Kisnorbo has definatly lacked (e.g. the beautiful hoof upfield he so oftenly does) Chambers as has been said to death good on right bad on left. Alot of hype around Kaebi so i'm guessing he'l be good. Sappleton looks useful (he'd probably deck me if I said otherwise ) Odihambo need I say anymore... Mattock.. Marry me! Think he could become subject to some premiership interest if he furfills his potential. So yeah hopeful of a top half.
Zingari Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 i know i'm boring about this this but i'll repeat ; we have already brought in too many average players , there are doubts about the majority of them ; whether it be age/fitness or just untried at this level ; MA is doing a barry fry and seems not to know the actual players he wants but buying enough and hoping to get lucky ; he seem to buy players like a woman buys shoes ( not sure if she'll ever wear them but will loook nice in the wardrobe) it goes without saying of course that i really hope that i am wrong
Jay Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 I love the way in true Leicester style we seem to be writing off players before they have even worn a shirt in anger!! to judge a players ability on the back of a few pre season friendlies is just ridiculous!!! to give someone like Campbell a score of 5 and say lots of hype but no substance is pathetic, the bloke has been here ONE week and played bit parts in a couple of friendlies while being miles behind in his fitness levels and already his ability is being questioned, it's just crazy... and infact to give any players scores when they haven't played any competitive football is just plain silly imo
teblin Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Pretty pointless judging players in pre season. Any one remeber gillispie and nalis looking like world beaters against Barca? Look what happened that year, relegation In this div you need 7 or 8 steady players and the rest made up with a bit of class. We'lll be fine.

But then again... as for someone saying about Cort starting... I bloody hope not, I will be gutted if he is one of our starting strikers, am I the only one who just can't see him delivering the goals, EVEN if he is fit! Overall, the signings aren't world beaters but I think MA has bought in a lot of fighters and I can see us becoming a hard team to beat. Whether we can score enough goals, is another matter!! And remember guys MM says 3 more players to arrive! We are not finished yet....
Bluefoxtim Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Whatever we say about how good/bad a player is we won't truly know until after 5/10 games. Cast your mind back to the friendlies in which Momo Sylla played....against Inter Milan we all thought we had a world beater on the wing and what a load of shite that turned out to be!
DB11 Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 Hayes is pretty rubbish and useless in all of the game's I've seen him feature in. He's by far the worst signing we have made this season - he looks like a youth teamer stepping up but isn't quite there yet. He's out of his depth, far too greedy and too weak.

Just a bit better than Porter though IMO.
Blue Bob Posted 29 July 2007 Posted 29 July 2007 I agree it is far too early to start judging a team at this point. Some of the players are still working on fitness - DJ and Clemence. The side is chopped and changed so there is little consistency in performance. No one is going to put in full on challenges as no one wants to get injured at this stage of the season. We still have Kaebi and Kisnorbo to come back. Early days to judge wait until 5 games have gone. Plus we have 3(?) players to come in that could make a difference. Patience is a virtue - not that City supporters are known for being patient!!!
