England Game

Enough simple chances to have hit four.

And will someone tell me what Alan Smith and Keiron Dyer are for?

Smith was a test to see if he can still cut it up front (he can't), Dyer comes on because he's usually full of running, if nothing else.

Only a friendly.

I would have considered testing out Heskey. I wouldn't shove him straight into an important match, but a player like Heskey helps out Owen and provides a target for the long balls that happen every couple of minutes when they're sick of passing it around at the back for ages. He had a good game on Saturday and I suspect a recall would have gotten the blood pumping and plenty of effort on his part.

I'm in no way suggesting he's a solution or should be in the team all the time, but with all the people out trying it couldn't have hurt.

I can't believe people actually still watch england matches. :S

I stopped years ago.

What were they saying - the game was probably worth over £7 million.

And, allowing for 6,000 German fans out of the 86,000 attendance, how much of that would have been spent by English fans.

That's an expensive night out to end up miserable.

Nicky Shorey needs new boots, i've never seen anyone slip as much as him.

Somebody else noticed too. He looked like Bambi on ice at times.

As good as he is, Joe Cole is too greedy.

Agreed, time and time again he could play a simple pass but instead tries to dribble past players unnecessarily.

Robinson - poor. Not an international class keeper by any stretch.

Beckham - offers nothing but free-kicks and corners. And they were shite today.

Owen, Smith - haven't started or played up front this season. Owen should be made to earn his place in the SQUAD instead of walking straight into the TEAM. Disgusting selection.

Barry - I was baffled by his inclusion, but fair play to him - he played well and was much better than Carrick.

Richards - top class.

Wright-Phillips - looked great when he came on. Should definitely be ahead of David 'can't run' Beckham.

Only a fool would part with their money and time to watch England

Very very frustrating tonight. We created enough chances to score 5.

I find it hard to have respect for Robinson, as for such a high profile player, the shape he's in is shocking. The fat bastard can hardly jump.

I think England fans must be up there as one of the best set of International fans.

Having to endure dour performances on a regular basis by these multi millionaire players, and still supporting them in mass.

My personal view, and i know it was a friendly and all that and this isn't on the basis of this game, BUT Steve Mclaren???....What were the FA thinking?????

Heskey's different class to Alan Smith - and always has been. If Smith had the skills to match his attitude he'd be fine but he hasn't.

Please Please Please, somebody change the fecking goalkeeper. Foster?

Injured, is he not? I'd like to see him start to come through, but I'm happy enough with James.

Alan smith is a shit striker.

Leeds United - 172 (38)

Manchester United - 61 (7)

Didn't realise his record was that mediocre. Only just looked.

Have you actually seen him play?

Yeah. I don't know why I rate him, but I do.

Not for England by the way, no way should he be anywhere near starting.

He's built a career on being the sort the fans like - all action, a few tasty tackles, even the odd decent goal. Trouble is his effect has never matched his effort.

When we were trailing and needed a goal badly, who did McClaren turn to?

A "striker" who hadn't found the net in THIRTY-ONE international matches.

And after Kieron Dyer's horrendous Akinbiyi-style miss, will he EVER score for England?

McClaren and Venables are way out of their depth at international level. No way are we going to reach Euro 2008 with those clowns in charge.

The FA shouldn't wait for them to fail against Israel and Russia. They should just get rid now!
