purpleronnie Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 I think England fans must be up there as one of the best set of International fans.Having to endure dour performances on a regular basis by these multi millionaire players, and still supporting them in mass. My personal view, and i know it was a friendly and all that and this isn't on the basis of this game, BUT Steve Mclaren???....What were the FA thinking????? Best? Or disillusioned in believeing we are as good as the press hype us to be.
Ultra Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 I doubt any other nation could find 80000+ muppets dumb enough to pay £40+ for the privilege of watching that pile of poo month in month out.
Flynny Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 When we were trailing and needed a goal badly, who did McClaren turn to?A "striker" who hadn't found the net in THIRTY-ONE international matches. And after Kieron Dyer's horrendous Akinbiyi-style miss, will he EVER score for England? McClaren and Venables are way out of their depth at international level. No way are we going to reach Euro 2008 with those clowns in charge. The FA shouldn't wait for them to fail against Israel and Russia. They should just get rid now! In what way is Venebles out of his depth? The arguement is easy to make for McClaren, but Venebles?
Joe. Posted 22 August 2007 Author Posted 22 August 2007 I'm so glad people have now realised that Robinson isn't a great keeper. For ages I've been banging on about James being England's no.1. It will be interesting to see who starts in goal against Israel. I wouldn't bet against it being James. Why the hell were the commentators going on about Joe Cole tonight? From what I saw he was average at best. And no way is Carrick good enough to play for England. A shocking performance from him once again in an England shirt.

The goalkeeper question is no contest and Carrick probably got his name from the village of Crick - in the middle of nowhere and only there cos its a transit station - a place where the load is passed to someone else.
Floating Fox Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 Watched the Bundesliga review instead. Shambolic performance from what I saw, wembley - what a complete joke.
Koke Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 When Richards (our deadliest player on the field) was moved into CB, I really lost all faith in McClaren. The boy was immense at RB and all credit should go to him for the Lampard goal. And when Michael Owen misses those sort of chances, I think its time to call it a day.

Wes Brown could have played CB and Richards at RB, but McClaren already knows he's handy at right-back, he wants to see how he plays for his country at CB.

Wes Brown could have played CB and Richards at RB, but McClaren already knows he's handy at right-back, he wants to see how he plays for his country at CB. Fair enough. But we've got a dozens of CB's - Its not like we are running out of them.
Flynny Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 Fair enough. But we've got a dozens of CB's - Its not like we are running out of them. Terry's already playing, Carragher's retired, Rio picked up a knock. Who's next? It's either Sol or Richards.
Raj Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 Terry's already playing, Carragher's retired, Rio picked up a knock. Who's next? It's either Sol or Richards. Joleen Lescott!
lildave3 Posted 22 August 2007 Posted 22 August 2007 Terry's already playing, Carragher's retired, Rio picked up a knock. Who's next? It's either Sol or Richards. Heskey can always fill in of course.
Alexikokopops Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Wes Brown is a bag of knackers, I'd retire if he was picked for the England team ahead of me. And Dyer shouldn't play as striker. This is what I've spent the 3 hour journey back from Wembley thinking about.
Thracian Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Heskey can always fill in of course. Have faith LilDave3. The irreplaceable qualities of a centre-back: Height, strength, passing and pace.
davieG Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 I'll be honest, i've always rated Smith. I'll be honest I've never rated Smith ever!
Ric Flair Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Kieran Dyer should never play for England again. The amount of times he get's bought on and wastes chances is phenomenal. It was harder to miss that cross from Beckham's than score it. Fookin over-rated, injury prone shit box.

Wes Brown could have played CB and Richards at RB, but McClaren already knows he's handy at right-back, he wants to see how he plays for his country at CB. Yes it is a friendly but Mclaren really needs to get some wins. He didn't win, and he made substitions in the second half that gave the team a really awkward shape and we ended up overloaded on the left with Shorey, Barry and Wright Phillips all attacking on that flank. We were very effective down the right in the first half and if we had kept Richards at RB in the second half and brought on Wright-Phillips for Beckham we probably would have won the game because Pander looked vulnerable to me. Instead we focused everything down the left and didn't really trouble the Germans at all. The only pluses I can take from the game are that Lampard, Cole, Richards and Wright Phillips all did well but overall their performances were overwhelmed by a frustration that usually comes with watching England. Plus I still have no idea how Michael Carrick is a 'superb passer of the ball'. He gave the ball away so many times in that game I lost count. Abysmal.
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Robo, dear oh dear oh dear Robo. It's sad the only in form goal keeper in this country is a 37 year old known liabilty in a England shirt, got to admit he can't be much worse than Robinson who A) is not as good a goalkeeper and B) is now responsible for as many howlers as James. Richards was brilliant, he ran that right wing. We don't need to worry about a replacement for a ageing Gary Neviile. and the centre halfs can hardly be blamed for either goal. Shorey played ok but is no England full back. Lampard was better, getting on the scoresheet will do him good, but he was still quiet for large periods, Carricks just shit, Joe Cole had a very good first 30 minutes then apperaed to tire some what probabley down to lack of games. Beckham will lose his place eventully now, playing with and against that shit week in week out isn't going to keep him sharp. Signing for LA Galaxy might earn £500,000 a week but it will eventully cost him his England career. Owen missed a sitter obviously and wasn't to great but Thracians critisem of him is totally unjust, I can't think of a better excuse than a total and utter lack of games over a 18 month period, it's an excuse he rolled out for Dodds enough last season, double standerds yet again. What are friendlies for in not to get players fit! And, my word, The Fryatt of England, really Liverpool 216 (118) Real Madrid 34 (13) Newcastle 15 (7) England 82 (37) Over 150 top level goals! BEHAVE YOURSELF! Worst thing about it is the Germans were shit as well. And Kevin Kuranyi scored past us and HE IS SHIT!!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 I thought we were alright. Some good positives and at least we were creating chances. But of course as usual because it's an England defeat the world is going to end.
The People's Hero Posted 23 August 2007 Posted 23 August 2007 Michael Owen has class. Stick with him. He just needs games under his belt. Thracian as usual is just spouting complete sh it.
