France 20 - 18 New Zealand!!!!!

Woohoo!

The semi-finals not gonna be easy but i'm happier than I would if it was New Zealand. At least the favorites are out.

What worries me is that France were shocking in the first half but the second half was a real turnaround they looked pretty strong and quite hard to beat!

Time to watch Amir Khan now!

England were immense today! Its been an amazing day. Who would have thought England vs France!!! Awesome.

That winning try included a HUGE forward pass. Shocking work from the officials.

No it wasn't thats the problem we should celebrate when we win something not just for getting to a semi final.
oh just fook off.

Thats the spirit. However, since winning the world cup in 2003 England have been very disappointing. What odds were we to actually win this years tournament?

The fact we are guaranteed a top 4 finish is lightyears better than most would have expected.

33/1 I think.

Was tempted by a cheeky punt, but if I did i'd have no doubt jinxed it and we wouldn't be in this position.

:dunno: Wales 27 - 18 England.

Or like I said, South Africa 36 - 0 England. If we're throwing toys around and bringing our rugby e-peens to the table, at least come with the proper gloves on for swinging.

You could have with or without them, France clearly illustrated today that the ABs were beatable, as are any top nation by any other. England are fantastic at what we to your west consider to be killing a game, making it slow, boring, heavily forward-orientated and physical. That's why Australia struggle to get going against you, you choke off their supply of the ball and keep their clearly superior backs out of the game.

But it's also why you can't beat South Africa, and why they were and still are your biggest threat. You see the thing is, South Africa play your game. And they're fitter, stronger, younger, hungrier, harder and far more professional. Dave can think he's being mortally wounding and "putting me in my place" with his "lol fiji zomg 34 38" but the fact of the matter is the Boks are about the best team left in this tournament, and out of the three Tri Nations countries - they're the one that REALLY has your number, son.

The All Blacks are now officially the biggest chokers in world sport.

But their departure has left the tournament wide open.

I'm not convinced that France will cope with the pressure as favourites in a home semi against us.

So we could have the chance to avenge the 36-0 hiding against the Boks.

lol

A little easily wound up. Although after watching Wales gift Fiji a quarter final place I can understand your reaction to Disco's baiting. For me, whatever happens now I'll be generally satisfied with our World Cup. We are clearly not the best team, probably not even in the top 4 teams, so to get to the semi final is a fantastic achievement and speaks volumes for our determination, bravery and tactical nuance (particularly against the Australians).

There are so many Aussies where I work so this is absolutely superb and I don't see any reason why we can't shut the French up next week either.

South Africa, yeah, different story. They had the measure of us in the group stage (and that's putting it kindly) but to be perfectly honest winning it in 2003, runner up in 2007 (jumping the gun a touch, I know) - looks pretty damn good to me.

I'm not getting wound up, I'm not ranting on about how England are just lucky and Wales were robbed or how we should have won the WC and it's all a disgrace. I'm stating things how they are, matey, and I'm happy for you that you're glad with 4th place.

What?

They never got going. We wanted the win, they thought it was going to be a walk-over a la SA. Fcuk off, Gregan, you mouthy tw@t.. :D

You have to remember that this current team has really only been going for around 5 months. I think that, SA omitted, they have improved greatly as a unit. Personally i wouldn't have cared if we played Les Bleus or the All Blacks. If we play like we did against the Wallabies, we should go on.

Our real weakness is a lack of try scoring / imaginative play in the final 22. But I'll settle for Johnny to kick us into the final.

I take your point about SA playing a similar game, but I think our next meeting (if we get there) will be a much different game. At the end of the day...

...we're still in it. What's worse for you, Finners, is that Scotland are still there. But then, I am sure you will be chering for us in the semi's ;)

:D
