Gemmill Pens New Deal

Scot GemmillLeicester City midfielder Scot Gemmill has agreed a new deal with the club that will keep him at the Walkers Stadium until the end of the season.

Gemmill joined the Foxes in the summer on a free transfer after he was released by Everton.

The former Scottish international initially signed a three-month deal before it was extended by a further month in October while City searched for a new manager.

Gemmill was then handed another three month contract by boss Levein in November which took him up until the end of this month.

And the City chief has moved swiftly to again secure the services of the midfielder until the end of this campaign.

He said: "We have agreed to extend Scot's contract until the end of the season. He hasn't featured a lot since Stephen Hughes arrived but his is a model professional and he has been very helpful in the reserve team with the younger players.

"He's a good type to have around the place and also he is a very good player. If we need to play him then we will do."

Must be cheap.:unsure::rolleyes: What about Dawson though. :( <_<

Not to bothered either way as CL seems to indicate that he will be used to bring on the younger players in the stiffs.

Was a good player in his day and if that can rub off on people like Dawson then good.

I don't see the point in wasting even more wages on him. We have enough cover in midfield IMO.

Mental decision. Our midfield doesn't need strengthing, now as well as holding back the likes of Dawson and Wesolowski some more, we could have brought a defender or a striker in with the money thats going towards his wages now.

whats the point. may aswel have let him go and play some the young ones now our season is almost dead!

He's going to do what Mckinlay does for Fulham. I can only see him playing 3-4 games by the end of the season.

I don't mind if he has signed another contract, he must be on a very low wage, with a bonus if he plays. Pay related wage in other words.

If you listen to what CL has to say about Gemmill he obviously views that the younger players can gain from Gemmill being in and around the reserve team. CL must feel that he can get more benefit and value from the wages collected by Scott, than going out and getting a player in on loan or saving the money for next season's budget. His final comment is that he could always play in an emergency which implies it is unlikely for him to appear in the first team unless there is an injury crisis. There is no substitute for experience in developing the young players and if his training and lifestyle can help the future stars of LCFC then all well and good.

Either that or CL is a buffoon.

I know which I prefer to believe.

A fully reasoned argument young man - do I take it that you don't think that CL knows what he is doing ?

Agreed Gemmill has not played much under Levein but CL obviously feels he can provide some help to the reserve team and therefore hopefully some of the young prospects will be in the reserve team soon.

Gemmill just might be able to step in to the team if really necessary during April when we have 8 games and just maybe need to rest players cos we're still in the Cup.

This has really baffled me. Would have expected Gemmill to have left the club. He doesn't feature in Craig's 'youth' policy, and he has got Hughes, Williams, Gudjonsson and Nalis in front of him. We also have youngsters who deserve a chance such as Dawson and Wesolowski.

Why on Earth do they deserve a chance?

I have to agree with the nay-sayers here... we don't bloody need Gemmill, and with Hughes, Joey and Williams we have the nucleus of our midfield. Nalis can be the experienced head partnering Dawson in midfield for the reserves...his contract is up this summer anyway. Poor decision CL <_<

This has actually restored my faith in Levein a little bit.

He's not as obsessed with youth as I thought.

Erm maybe because they have been performing well for the Reserves. Stearman has been given a chance. I actually meant they deserve a chance ahead of Gemmill playing.
