Zingari Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 from the times Gary Megson will end months of frustration today by being appointed the new manager of Leicester City, the Coca-Cola Championship club, and so becoming the fourth manager of Milan Mandaric’s seven-month reign. Mandaric had targeted Billy Davies and Iain Dowie as a successor to Martin Allen, but has failed to tempt them away from Derby County and Coventry City respectively. Megson, who has been out of work since leaving Nottingham Forest in February last year, impressed Mandaric in a three-hour interview yesterday and is expected to be given a three-year deal. Megson led West Bromwich Albion to the top flight twice in three seasons and Mandaric believes that he is the best man to meet his target of promotion. Megson, 48, will bring in Frank Burrows as his assistant, and is expected to name Gerry Taggart as first-team coach. Ex-Leicester stars Matt Elliott and Muzzy Izzet may also be given roles on the coaching staff. Megson is set to sit in the stands for the visit of QPR this Saturday but will be in the dug-out on Tuesday - at Forest for the Carling Cup replay. starting to look very promising come on foxes fans , this could be the start of something really big
Daggers Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Just been announced on 5Live news. Smegon didn't even feature on my list of potentials...but, for fear of my entire season imploding in abject disbelief, I'm going to focus on the fact that he did a decent job at the baggies and almost completed a decent turnaround of Forest's fortunes. When he took the Trees over he inherited a squad that cared more for nights out than playing, with a worse collective attitude than ours last season. He did a semi-decent job there I guess. What I can not reconcile is his approach to winning games. With the news of Keegan coming I immediately started dreaming of 5-4 victories and 6-5 defeats. I was grinning all afternoon at the thought of getting total value for money from my season ticket...and yet here we are again, facing even more defending 1-0 leads and long punts up field. I don't want to see football like this. Megson, we've been told that we all should get behind you - then fucking entertain me. Moreover - loan some decent fucking players to make up for one massive damp squib of a start to a season. I am really pissed off.
teblin Posted 13 September 2007 Author Posted 13 September 2007 Didn't barber say it was megson all along?
Daggers Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 starting to look very promising come on foxes fans , this could be the start of something really big How is the signing of some ex-players in this capacity "exciting"?
Guest Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 he'd probably be 4th out of my top 4. I think he was about no. 20 out of my top 4.
teblin Posted 13 September 2007 Author Posted 13 September 2007 How is the signing of some ex-players in this capacity "exciting"? Agreed, they may have been good players, doesn't mean they can coach. I'm not impressed by this, but i guess we have to go with it and hope he gets his third prmotion from this division.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I was right then.. I said our new manager's christian name would begin with a 'g'....having also thought that Glenn Hoddle and Glenn Roeder were close too.
Fox in a Box Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Hmm, tricky one this. Megson did have a bad time at forest but as we all know you cant polish a turd! I will listen, watch wait and see how he does, as far as Im concerned he did very well at WBA and all the fans I know who support them speak quite highly of the feller. Milan wont mess around we know that if the results are not in place, It's milans choice and well lets hope he dont end up with MeEGG on his face. Lets get behind him and lets see shall we if were in the top 6 were laughing if were in the bottom 6 he will be fired be asured of that.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 At least it aitn Roeder. Too right... oh you mean Levein Mark 2??
Moreton Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Never Never Never! for those of you who cant or dont remember of how sh*t Megson is heres his track record Curtesy of Wikipedia
He's not bald Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 bbc radio leicester have announced that he wil be unvaild this morning.great! fooking great! what a ****.... 2 weeks ago we were going for promotion, now were goin straight back down. oh god. will we play forest in the league next year????? i know people say we need to get behinf our manager but ffs. he aint no manager, my sister can do better than that and she doesnt know what a striker is.!!! Now that's either unvieled or invalid...I go for the latter!
C-man Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 To be honest, when he was at WBA I took no notice of how well he was managing the team, because each time he got them promoted, we we're in the Premiership and I didn't pay any attention to the Championship. At Forest, all I can remember is that he wasn't great and got the sack. I'm not going to look up any statustics because all I'm worried about now is how he will manage LCFC and nothing in the past. I'm not pleased by this imminent appointment but Mandaric is in control and all I'll do is support the club no matter who is in charge. It could have been worse, we could have had Peter Reid.

coale39 Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 However, the club was barely prepared for the financial challenges of life in the top flight and a bitter quarrel soon developed between Megson and the club's chairman Paul Thompson over the latter's perceived interference in footballing matters Oh dear.
Lord Nibblington Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 If Megson was Mandaric's first choice I'd be stunned. I rather think this shows how much of an iffy proposition working for old Milan is too most people. Hurrah!

Hurrah! Yeah I think Megson was 4th choice out of Mandys 4. I think the others were just scared off by the lunatic in charge.
Ultra Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 It will be interesting to see how Mandy's muppets defend this one. I remember the glee that overcame me whenever Megson failed at Forest, as he took them down and then led them to defeat by the mighty Macclesfield, Woking and Chester, among others. Now it seems the scum may have the last laugh after all. And we'll certainly hear it if (when?) they stuff us next week. This is the worst day for the club since Taylor put the poison dwarf on the payroll.
BigGibbo Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Im still choosing to believe this is all bollocks as other than on here i have heard nothing of it. Megson wouldn't of been in mandaric's ideal top 20 so i struggle to see how he would have plumped for him this quick I don't think there has been anything more than an interview so far & its probably megsons agent who's hyped it up for whatever reason fook knows keep me informed people!
hairy Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Lets hope he doesn't last very long. 2 matches would be enough.
BigGibbo Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 AAAaaaah no my poor innocent ears sky news has confirmed Megsons in talks but at least thats all they've said
Karlos Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Well...better than roeder/warnock, not good though...

The fact the club has called a press conference today suggests there may be some truth in this story. And the media's source is the same one that told them Allen was for the sack, weeks before it actually happened.
