Strokes Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I don't think so, didn't see that when I read up on him anyway. No, he didn't.
Maybes Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Gary Megson will end months of frustration today by being appointed the new manager of Leicester City, the Coca-Cola Championship club, and so becoming the fourth manager of Milan Mandaric’s seven-month reign.Mandaric had targeted Billy Davies and Iain Dowie as a successor to Martin Allen, but has failed to tempt them away from Derby County and Coventry City respectively. Megson, who has been out of work since leaving Nottingham Forest in February last year, impressed Mandaric in a three-hour interview yesterday and is expected to be given a three-year deal. Megson led West Bromwich Albion to the top flight twice in three seasons and Mandaric believes that he is the best man to meet his target of promotion. Megson, 48, will bring in Frank Burrows as his assistant, and is expected to name Gerry Taggart as first-team coach. Ex-Leicester stars Matt Elliott and Muzzy Izzet may also be given roles on the coaching staff. Megson is set to sit in the stands for the visit of QPR this Saturday but will be in the dug-out on Tuesday - at Forest for the Carling Cup replay. Some positives . . .
Manwell Pablo Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Not happy to say the least but will give him a chance. This will also make Tuesday even more interesting.
BigGibbo Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 LEt's give the bloke a chance, no? You just answered your own Question
Babylon Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I feel as though I have been raped by Babylon without any lubrication................in pain, an event I quickly want to forget and wish it never happened!!!!

BigGibbo Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 On a more serious note we have no choice but to back him if you love Leicester city like i do Milans got you by the danglys
Dames Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 I can't muster the energy to look on the brightside for Leicester anymore. Its all been a big cock up. Now the Footballs gunna be shit again with defensive overload with route one tactics and center mids and full backs on the wings.
Master Fox Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 There’s still a glimmer of hope for us. If the Tags rumour is true I think that it could be our catalyst to success. Forget Megson and try to just view him as front man who doesn’t really do a lot. But having Tags in there means we’ll always have chance not matter who we’re up against. Appointing Tags as first team coach could be a touch of genius. Tags knows what this club means to the people and what it represents, he’s been watching from the stands for some time now and knows exactly what is required. Tags won’t let us down I can assure you.

No chance. Milan will pick the team and Megson will apply the route one tactics. Or if Milan leaves him too it, it will be like the Rob Kelly days again.
davebenn999 Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 http://www.ex-canaries.co.uk/players/megson.htm more depressed now.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Call me naive or massively optimistic, but I cannot believe that Mandy is mental enough to recruit a manager that everyone knows has a history of dour football in their managerial career and let him carry on this tradition. He needs to keep the fans interested and SELL TICKETS. Although his priority is promotion, the chances of this happening will surely be boosted by a full stadium. I also don't believe that just because a manager has previously encouraged playing defensively or long ball, that he will do this FOREVER. Surely the decision to do so is based on the manager's judgement of the best way to get results with the resources available - the more limited they are, the more likely the long ball is going to be used as it can be effective if you've got a squad of relatively crappy players. With a half decent squad already and Mandy's money available, maybe Megson reckons he can deliver the type of football we'd like to see, and has convinced Mandy as such. You've got to hope for the best. We are City fans, after all

Don't be fooled taggart will have no involvement on matchdays milans just added him to the mix cos he thinks were daft enough for that to make it alright that he's conned us, & taken the cheap option of a desperate Megson rather than paying any real money for someone good to come here. & as for leaking the possibility of elliot & izzet returning behind the scenes what ever he's just reeling of names of our old hero's to soften the blow. Thats my initial thoughts
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Now I'm not saying I'm a fan of Megson and in all honesty, more than a little disappointed with this appointment, but it could work. Pretty football rarely works at this level, which is why Megson, Warnock, and the rest, have all been successful in the Championship. The plus factor is Taggs. We endure a season, maybe two with Megson, who eventually squeeks us into the Premierships, by which time Taggs has learned the ropes, earned his badges and is ready to take over! And besides, it could be worse... Howard Wilkinson is available again!

Daggers Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Saurdays lottery numbers will be 7, 16, 29, 30, 41, 48 Bonus Ball 2Ok to try and look for some positives in this.... Before the debacle at forest Megson did an excellent job at West Brom getting them promoted twice into the premier league. People tend to look upon managers that they are only as good as their last job, well Dowie failed at Charlton in his last post but look where Cov are now. But, also remember that "It may be a cliche, but some fans say that Megson had 'lost the dressing room'." at WBA. He was constantly at war with his employers and with the squad shortly before being fired. He was totally unable to motivate a reasonable squad and the board felt no confidence in his ability to augment it so refused him access to further funds. You can try to place a positive spin on this Babs but the truth is that he is not even a second-rate appointment. He has a massive job to do in order to win the majority of fans over.
Blue Bob Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Ok I am in the same camp as most of you and think that MM could have made a better choice - however I have been searching long and hard for reasons to be positive about this guy. When he was manager of West Brom in his first full season they reached the play offs, 2nd season they were promoted by 11 clear points, 3rd season relegated from premier league, 4th season promoted to premier league. In fairness that is a pretty good record. The guy hard a few run in's with his chairman as he interferred with footballing matters (be interesting to see how MM reacts to that) so he has a spine. He has a 43% win record with them and that includes a season in the premiership where they got battered. He joined Forest when they were already doomed to relegation and couldnt get them promoted - however the chairman did sell half the team from under him!!! I am sure MM gave him a through grilling for 3 hours and must have been impressed by what he heard. I am sure after 18 months out he is going to be hungry. If Megson can get us to play like West Brom when they stormed the league by 11 clear points he will be a hero. He does come under the been there and done it so I believe that we have to get behind him and show him our support. Lets she what he can do with the team, give him a few games to settle in and then judge him by his performances on the pitch and not because he is ginger (as some have said).
Bellend Sebastian Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 He's sold tickets and shirts. Well he's not sold many STs. If only season ticket holders turn up to games from now on I don't think he'll be very happy
davebenn999 Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 if megson came out on top of the shortlist of four, who were the other wasters on the list?

Why should i get behind him? I got behind MA, where the fook did that get me? who's to say even if this bloke does start getting results, his job will be safe?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Why should i get behind him? I got behind MA, where the fook did that get me? who's to say even if this bloke does start getting results, his job will be safe? I think this sums up how a lot of fans feel. Mandaric may have been "impressed" with Megson's interview but we heard the same about Allen, a far more fan-friendly appointment despite his relative lack of credentials.
Geo V Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 As much as I am going to back Megson, I must admit one thing stands out about this imminent appointment. Why is Milan hiring someone who has a reputation of causing an argument by himself in an empty room?!! Megson has fallen out with everyone over the years, especially chairmen of the clubs he has managed!
STUHILL Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 Well well well, Megson it is then, hardly inspirational eh! Got the likes of Jewell, Dowie and Davies linked and we get Megson. Well the best word to describe my feelings are 'flat'! When we started this season, I was buzzing, new team, new up and coming manager. Of course I will support Leicester and that means getting behing Megson but I can't help feel a little deflated after all the events. Best thing Megson can do now is get a few Wins on the trot and get the supporters enthusiasm back because I'm sure there won't be the same Buzz around Leicester there was with MA in charge! Good luck to him and hope we get a win on Sat!

I have a season ticket and really can't be arsed to go now, compare that to the antisipation and excitment i felt under Allen. I just feel really cheated, Milan has yanked my trousers and pants down and started smacking my arse in public.
