WHY?

Tallentless wonder!

Why did we sign him?

What does he offer?

Why does GM keep picking him?

Have I missed something?

How much is he on?

Why would you pick him instead of De Vries? (I know De Vries  )

Just Why? Why for god sake why? He is the 07-08 Elvis Hammond!

We took a gamble and it hasn't paid off he has been woeful so far this season but at some point in his career manmaged to score goals in the premiership.

He's not too old, I asuume we somehow thought we would get his best back out of him.

If he could stay fit and get a decent run of games & build confidence I think he could serve a purpose... Problem is, he wont stay fit or have a decent run of games or indeed build in confidence.

I think that when he was signed it was with the idea of a Brian Deane like target man who could set up a little man (Hume/Fryatt) but also score the odd few... Just hasnt worked.

The only saving grace is that this time we didnt pay £5 million to realise that a player wasnt capable of doing what was needed, although I bet he is on a decent wage.......and a BUPA health plan!!!

Cort was a joke on Saturday. But Megson must take some of the blame for picking him. It can't be long before he's keeping everybody else off the treatment table again. Another Lee Morris probably.

He has been utter garbage, I agree.

However...

One thing we haven't done yet is get in behind defences down the flanks and provided crosses for him. I can't think of a single opportunity he's had in the air yet. And playing 3-5-2 instead of 4-4-2 doesn't exactly play to his strengths in terms of numbers getting forward in wide positions.

So far he's had to hold the ball up or win flick ons when there is only one other player in support - his strike partner. We need to get numbers forward from midfield if we're going to make the most of Cort's strengths. So far he hasn't had the chance to do what he does best.

Someone mentions Brian Deane above. We had crosses and set pieces flying into the box from all angles in that promotion season. At the moment all of our play comes through the middle which doesn't suit Cort in the slightest.

i'd have loaned them both to leeds :D

i know poeple are saying we should not give to the wise but leeds are below us and are begging for our cast offs so i say lets be charitable. i wonder if theres any more erm,.....quality players we can loan to them .

Not sure about this, Mattock was quality down the left in 2nd half on Saturday. Beating his defender and getting the crosses in. BUT and its a big but, the 3 up top were in the wrong positions to get to the crosses.

True about the crosses but he does not even compete when a ball is in the air! The guy is utter tripe and he should be gotten rid of yesterday

There aren't going to be many crosses going into the box if we continue to play a wing back formation.

I also don't think Carl Cort is completley fit at the moment. Which is another problem.

We'll probabley be seeing more of him by the looks of things though, Cort wasn't sacrficed at half time against Stoke unlike Campbell and De Vries and of course the latter our only other big man has now gone to Leeds.

Bit harsh bringing Carl Cort's big butt into this.

Personally I thought the crosses were coming in from quite deep positions. There weren't many good quality crosses from the byline which is what Cort supposedly thrives on.

I'm grasping at straws. Personally I'd stick him back in the reserves and give someone like Billy McKay a chance ahead of him.

Cort is clearly not yet fit, however, he has on the odd occasion show some touches that are a class above anyone else we have is capable of. There was one move in the Plymouth game where he took the ball, then stopped and looked, then played a ball through for Hume to run onto, and had Hume had got it on target, then I guess people would be saying what an insightful player he is.

Billy's a dangerous and intelligent player in a passing side but we've not got that, there's no signs of us having that, and he's a bit lightweight yet for the Championship.

There's no way he'd be holding up the hoof balls.

And if Cort gets injured that problem will be even more pronounced.

Well we're in fantasy land so I'd be telling them to keep it on the floor and I'd actually be looking to play energetic, quick, skilful footballers in midfield.

The truth is he has not only not been fit for years but even when fit for the last 2 years he has been useless.

Since 30th September 2005 he has made only 36 appearances and has scored only 2 yes 2 goals. That is a pathetic return and now he is considered by management and owner to be one of our key strikers.

So for me it looks like a panic buy. Even when he has been fit of late he has failed to produce the goals and has looked totally useless so far for us.

If we are to have any hope of ever getting out of this league in the right direction we simply have to have a better striker than Cort.

Step up to the plate, Sapplezilla.

I've grown to love the guy, I really have.

He looked so cumbersome when he arrived but even then and even when unfit he always made something happen somehow.

Lately he's got fitter, his all-round play has improved and he links up so well with McKay.But that's in an attacking team.

Academy or Reserves he's always a goal threat because he shoots from everywhere and packs such power when he catches em, which is not always the case, I'd emphasise.

But Championship? Everyone will have a go at him in no time. Although he's a giant, his heading looks hopeless. A bit better now than it was but still worse than MDV. And he's no greyhound. More Irish Wolfhound where speed's concerned.

His close control can be a bit ropey too but sometimes he surprises you as he did when he laid on a brilliant goal for Beswick in the Reserves with a chest down and first time pass. Best goal I've seen all season.

People seem to like having him in their team and whatever else he'll shoot. Sometimes it looks to be in slow motion but those shots will go in, even from ridiculous angles. The bloke asks questions.

Whether the Championship defenders will have all the answers at this stage is what concerns me. I think they would but hope they wouldn't.

Carry on like that and you'll inspire a sequel to Peter Pan. :D:D

We have signed a player who is a sick note and was a stupid gamble to take. We need a target man and he isn't winning headers and his first touch is that of a crapper tricky trev.

Thracian you could polish a steaming turd and make it look like a sunayr dinner. He hasn't asked any questions really apart from where do I sign.

I believe he is talking about Ricky Sappleton ;)

Cort will probably play tomorrow and get a hat trick! :D

And that will be it for the season as he would get injured celebrating his 3rd which would have come off his arse whilst he was on the floor from a previous injury anyway!!!
