Lets Be having You Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Milan has gone for a solid hard-working manager and to be honest, it so far is spoiling the good things that MA had done at the club. Today was another terrible spectacle and to play 532/352 at home is a travesty for me and sends out a message to our opponents that we fear them and at home, we shouldn't be doing that. The weird thing is that before the season started I fancied Wolves to win the league so a point would have been a good result but after our weak start to the season, I had hoped for 3 points tonight. On the plus side if we somehow manage to win our game in hand we go up to 12th and just 3 points off the play-offs which isn't bad considering 3 starters from the victory against Watford were missing tonight. To Many Ifs m8,what we have at the moment is a team that can not score goals, and watford was a 1 off
Lets Be having You Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 yes, exactly, there is a plus side - too many people on here are talking like we've lost 5 and drawn three or something, and this belief that leicester should be playing 'exciting' football is really the most hilarious thing i have ever heard, apart from a couple of games under o'neil, the odd match here or there, i can't remember leicester ever being exciting to watch... people really need to grow up and remember who they are supporting. and few people are failing to acknowledge that weso and clem weren't playing, yes that makes me realise that we have no strength in depth, but what was our midfiled like last year? the thing is, we aren't losing games, the squad as well as being relatively new has also for many reasons been unsettled (not just megson reasons, either) there are so many points to play for and i'm convinced we are MOVING in the right direction, now... Well young man,and i assume you must be by the statement you made about lcfc never being a exciting team to watch i remember a few teams we have had that have played good football, the dross we have had for about Last 4 years is getting worse, and as much has i support milan,it all gone wrong and we seem to be heading back not forward.i suggest you pop on to youtube and watch some of the good football played by many a lcfc team, then you may change your thoughts about the dross we are playing at the moment.
mancunianfox Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 I think Megson's post match comments are spot on to be honest. I think our expectations were raised so much in the summer despite the fact that we had only signed a couple of good players and a lot of rubbish. We aren't really loosing at the minute, but we are dropping points through so many draws. Defensively we are great at the minute but we do probably need the quality to be able to finish teams off. I wouldn't expect a midfield of Kishishev (a squad player at most), Chambers (a right back) and King (making his debut) to dominate anyone. I think with Weso and Clem fit and the addition of another quality midfielder and a good striker we can start competing with anyone. We aren't a million miles away from the rest of the division because so far West Brom are about the only decent side in the league. We are trying to play around our limitations at the minute, but I have no doubt we will come good in a couple of months....it is just going to be frustrating until then.

Quite - how many people still cannot see that Allen created a huge squad of nobody's? Anyone? Chambers quality was shocking in midfield last night - but you cannot slate him for it as he's a right back. Kis is a downright disappointment - it says a lot when a youth player making his debut is kept on whilst he is subbed (and deservably so). Mattock has got some confidence back - was good to see that. We were talking about this at the game before megson spoke about it - its all down to quality - and we lack it in key areas and it went unaddressed all summer. This issue of quality has been with us for years. When the "legends" came out at the stoke game - we were thinking who from our recent years could be classed liked that? - perhaps nobody. I thought the booing was unfair at the end - we looked loads better 2nd half and more than matched a good Wolves team. Before the game I feared a thrashing without Clemence - in the end we could and should have snatched it (please can they tell Cort to get off the wing and into the box) - even with players missing. Tactically it was right for this game as Wolves score on the break very very often - we had too many men in the way for them to use that. Without that option they actually looked very ordinary. Which in fact so did Stoke - very ordinary. Yet these teams are regulars in the top six - so it surely would not take many "quality" players to do the same?
blueoveru Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 How do you know M.A. signed the dross, nobody knows, except Mandy and he aint saying, there were two football people who got the sack rather quickly who may have had an influence in dealings as they were supposed to have many many good contacts in Europe.

Thracian Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 A crumb of comfort to me is that, in some ways, Megsons tactics might make it as likely that we win away as at home. He seems all about defending the zero we start with and grabbing a goal somehow. With the team that finished last night we could stop people playing all day. As we did at Villa. Talk about clutching at straws though...

Given our lack of quality attacking players you can't blame him for that. I know its a million miles from your philosophy on football but at least we're not getting tanked every week. We are hard to beat at the moment, unfortunately we can't win either. Also I won't quote it, but Stevec's post was excellent.

jimthemofo Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 i have a friend who's unfortunate enough to support wolves, but he said wolves played shit - this probably means we did too as we couldn't score. i hate draws, they're poo, meggs needs to sort out the attacking side of things
Nosowicz Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 It has taken me until now to be able to discuss last nights game objectively. Simply it was a very poor game, with a very poor performance both in terms of effort, but more importantly in terms of tactics Playing 5 at the back may seem a positive move, but during the game, Wolves simply pressed their midfield players onto our wing-backs and we were a flat 5. We need to be able to counter this by pushing one of our defenders then into the old No 4 spot (in front of the back 4) so we don't end up with the voids we had. Neither Stearman or Mattock new if they should defend or go forward, so quite often got caught between the two. Not their fault entirely, but more that of the centre halfs and the lack of on field communication. The midfield was collectively very poor. Andy King had a good debut, but with mixed levels of success in terms of distribution. As for messers Kisichev & Chambers, well very poor performances from players not showing the right effort and/or application and I would look to other players we have in the squad. Up front, Fryatt & Hume then had to manage and fight for the scraps as balls were just hit forward to bypass the (lack of) midfield. They worked hard as ever but with little success and no support from the midfield. I was disapointed (understatement) by Gary Megson's lack of abaility to make changes with the team as the game was in progress and how he failed to communicate with the player effectively. He was trying, but they either they did not listen or did not want to. His frustration showed on his face and in his reactions, escpecially with any comment made from the crowd. I would suggest that Gary Megson gets used to being frustrated, but remember as supporters we had to pay to wathc that, so called performance, whilst he was being payed to be there, no doubt hamsomely compaired to what most of us supporters earn. If Gary Megson had been in the job since the summer, I would have said that this was sackable performance, as he has not it is difficult to justify such a comment, as we look like a team in early pre-season, swapping and changing as we learn. If this was viewed by anyone, including our Manager, as a good performance we are in for some very long evenings wondering what on earth is happening to our club, with very little else to do than sit there and watch it fall apart i front of our very eyes, with Mr Manderic's money and patience following not close behind.

Difficult to argue with a word of that. Megson wasn't overloaded with options last night but he certainly had one or two which might have conjured up a breakthrough.
Lillehamring Posted 3 October 2007 Author Posted 3 October 2007 Well young man,and i assume you must be by the statement you made about lcfc never being a exciting team to watch i remember a few teams we have had that have played good football, the dross we have had for about Last 4 years is getting worse, and as much has i support milan,it all gone wrong and we seem to be heading back not forward.i suggest you pop on to youtube and watch some of the good football played by many a lcfc team, then you may change your thoughts about the dross we are playing at the moment. thanks for the complement, but in footballing terms i'm not so young - i think you have read me a bit too literally, i'm trying to suggest that people expecting three or four goals a game are in dreamland, we have not had a great goalscoring team for so so long: people here expect us to play like real madrid, when we never have and never will... and personally i don't remember a genuinely exciting city team, yes some good performances, but even the best team we have had (under o'neill) would never be classed as a flair team, but one that worked hard, and complemented each other well... The fact we don't look like scoring... ever, is not a cause for concern, then? yes, of course it is a cause for concern, which is why i said i was woried about when we would start converting draws to wins, what i am feeling right now is that megson has got a defence playing well for leicester city for the first time in a long long while - we have shipped goals for the last few managers, even under allen the defence was not playing as well as now - yes, the lack of goals is a concern, but most new managers will work this way, strikers scoring goals aren't often inspired by seeing their hard work spoilt by a leaky defence. yes, megson got it totally wrong against stoke, but was man enough to admit it didn't work, and brave enough to tell overpaid workshy players that it wasn't good enough. and last night, well, considering the midfield we had out, the quality of the opponents, it was always going to be unlikely that we'd create too many chances.... so, i genuinely believe we are heading in the right direction, a win before the international break will give us some breathing space, and then time for megson to work with the players and hopefully we will come back like a proper team... i'm positive, and refuse to give up, like some of the doom-mongers on here...
Ashley Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Another boring 0-0 draw. Neither side looked like winning the game last night. And as for Andy King
Thracian Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Another boring 0-0 draw.Neither side looked like winning the game last night. And as for Andy King Perhaps you'd explain to me on what basis Chambers and Kishishev did a better job last night.

shiv Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 yes, let's play 5 at the back when we are at home... what a great idea and let's play the long ball to hume and fryatt... another great idea
Lillehamring Posted 3 October 2007 Author Posted 3 October 2007 Jimmy bloomfield, dont suppose you were a city supporter then were you ha, no - i started under jock wallace
Bryn Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 If we are to look for silver linings, we do have the joint second best defence in the league. If we can work out a way of scoring, get a quality loan in and some decent personnel in January, then we'll do alright. It's been a fooking shambolically handled season and hopefully things will be better next preseason.
Rich Fox Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 ONE win from 8 games, it's not good enough I'm afraid.Overall, I suppose a point and clean sheet against Wolves isn't bad. It was a very scrappy game, and bad football from both sides for all the first half and some of the second. The good thing was Wolves never really looked like scoring and I was very surprised at actually how bad they were. Leicester weren't too much better, although dominating the second half we didn't create too much. Yet again our arsehole section of fans booed at half time/full time and when Carl Cort came on. I'd actually like to give Cort some praise tonight, he came on and looked decent. Not bad, but we need to start picking up 3 points. You say our fans are arseholes booing at half time and full time when weve not won, well thre is not a team in he land whose fans dont boo when they dont win. I always think lcfc are very lucky to have so many great fans and the club dont really deserve half of them to be honest.
Micky Ruddle Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 For some strange reason, this last few matches takes me back to the Levein/Kelly era. We never looked dangerous at any point in the game. But then again, this is my opinion
Free Falling Foxes Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 The comments from fans of Megsons previous clubs seem to be spot on; we might win the occasional game 1-0. Didn't MM say something about attractive football. All my excitment for the new season has vanished. LCFC have duped me again - barstewards! I'm sick to death of seeing us in the bottom quarter every time I've looked at the league for the last few seasons. My brother who's been a season ticket holder for as long as I can remember stopped going last season - he's not the only one. They weren't kidded by any perceived optimism during the close season I'm now firmly in the camp that LCFC + MM = Disaster or at best, we'll 'tread water' for a 3 or 4 years before he quits probably for 'family/personal/health reasons. I believe he just got lucky at Pompey & even then nearly blew-it by getting rid of Redknapp at on stage I know, I know if it wasn't for Milan......... etc etc. FFF
Raj Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 I know, I know if it wasn't for Milan......... etc etc.
Lets Be having You Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 ha, no - i started under jock wallace ok you will do,ha Ha
