Webbo Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Should Frank Lampard start tomorrow for England or should Gareth Barry keep his place? Steven Gerrards view.
Alexikokopops Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Gerrard's good mates with Barry, his views hardly surprising. I agree though.
Raj Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Barry. 'cos Lamps is fat. Fatboy lampard...nah nah nanna na...fattyy...fatty.... sorry..i finish work soon!!!!
Ultra Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Barry adds a lot more balance and consistency to the midfield. He should stay.
Mr Happy Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Why break up what was a winning midfield?? (counting any sort of injury, suspension, etc)
MPH Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Why break up what was a winning midfield??(counting any sort of injury, suspension, etc) dont fix what isnt broken
Joe. Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Barry. Would be harsh to drop him after the previous performances and he also plays very nicely with Gerrard.
Tommeh Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Barry anyday. Personally I think it'll be a disgrae to drop him for Lampards after the previous 2 games, he was motm in both! Likewise if Heskey was fit, it would be wrong to bring wonderkid rooney back in. Little fact about our so called "most vital player:" the last time he scored he was an Everton player!!
Durnerz Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Barry for sure. So versatile as well so should a left sided player get injured he can fill in. Obviously i'd play him where he has been playing for England and hes contributed more in the last 2 games than Lampard has in his last 2 years.
Scow Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 There are some players that can adapt to international football and some that cannot. Some players are used to playing in a set style each week - for example Lampard - when it comes to playing for England, he can't adapt and therefore looks a bit lost. A player like Barry, who is assured, composed and versatile, can easily fit in as he doesn't have his head up his arse. That's why you have the likes of Beattie, Ricketts and Bent fail at international level - albeit all strikers, they weren't able to adapt to different style of play, despite their alleged talents.
Bert Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Barry. Waited years for a proper chance, now he's took it and deserves his place.
Bert Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Lampard for the extra quality. Controversial. Lampard for the extra quality. Debatable.
Tevez Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Lampard is awesome, Barry can balance a team but not with Lampards goals and creativity which is what we need.
Scow Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 Lampard is awesome, Barry can balance a team but not with Lampards goals and creativity which is what we need. Lampard has demonstrated those qualities for England often, hasn't he? It's not about individuals who can't perform in a team - it's about a team playing as a team. Sure, Lampard is a better player than Barry, but sometimes better players don't mean better results/performances.
Geo V Posted 13 October 2007 Posted 13 October 2007 Lampard is quality but both he and Gerrard dont look right as a central midfield pairing. They have had loads of chances and have failed so miserably that McClaren even tried to get Scholes out of retirement! Barry for me for now as the system allows Gerrard to break forward.
FilboFox Posted 13 October 2007 Posted 13 October 2007 Barry. Plays better, works harder, more skillful, better shot... what else could you want! Lampard would be a good substitute for Gerrard if he's injured but he shouldn't have a first team place when either he or Barry are fit.
Jay Posted 13 October 2007 Posted 13 October 2007 I expect Barry to retain his place for Estonia so that Mclaren avoids abuse but I imagine the non workable partnership of Lampard and Gerrard will be back for Russia

That's what I think, unfortunately I think MacLaren will bottle it and play Lampard.
