Durnerz Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 As Wigan Manager. Possibly a Jewell/Hutchings Manager-Coach combination coming our way?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Hilarious. It was never going to work out for him there. Same with Sammy Lee.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Hilarious. It was never going to work out for him there. Same with Sammy Lee. Tad harsh I think. They're not doing that badly, it's not as if they were ever going to be going for Europe is it, it was always going to be another struggle.

New managers who were at the club before will always be judged against their predecessors' achievements as a whole, not the state of the club at the time. That's why these two have both been sacked and also partly why Kelly got a bit longer as our manager after Levein IMO. Anyone could see both Bolton and Wigan would start slowly.

Well yes but it was much less obvious with Bolton, Bolton are a top half team and Gartside being the tart that he is would of expected Sammy Lee to do the same. He for me was always going to be one of the first managerial casaulties of the season. Jewell on the other hand did have a good first season, but last year Wigan were a mess last year and if memorey serves they were rooted to the bottom of the table at this point last year. I just think Wheelan has acted a bit to hastley ala Charlton, Hutchings wasn't doing an amazing job but he's only one point from safety, they've had a lot of tough Away games like Newcastle and Reading and they've played three out of the big four already. If he had that little faith in Chris Hutchings abilty then he should never of offered him the job.

It's a cut throat world these days in the Premiership. Chairmen don't give managers time to adapt. They have to get it right straight away and it wasn't hard to see that these two were not going to be able to do that. Oh well, onwards and upwards. We appoint Peter Reid and he gets poached by Wigan in a couple of weeks.

Blue Bob Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Was always going to be a tough act to follow. I wonder if this sacking is linked to their Chairman thinking about trying to get Jewell back at Wigan. Rumours are circulating that he has been interviewed for the Leicester job so he would appear to be ready for a return to football, Maybe he thinks he has a shot at trying to resign him as he is still highly thought of in Wigan and left for genuine reasons????
Ultra Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Tad harsh I think. They're not doing that badly, it's not as if they were ever going to be going for Europe is it, it was always going to be another struggle. One point from the last eight games wasn't healthy, though. Hutchings had a similar slump at Bradford and was sacked there so he must have known what was coming. When Heskey returns from injury, they might improve. But it depends on who Dave Whelan brings in - hopefully no-one who might have done a job for us!
Thracian Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 As Wigan Manager.Possibly a Jewell/Hutchings Manager-Coach combination coming our way? Don't want either, thanks. There are more exciting options and we're due some excitement aside from the Cup.

Jewell's Wigan team were one of the best teams this division has seen in the last ten years and attacked for fun. Okay so he had a bit of money to spend but there should be money to spend here in January and the summer too. Speculate to accumulate and all that.
Phube Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 I've heard they want Burrows and Taggart to take charge!!!
Raj Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 I've heard they want Burrows and Taggart to take charge!!! Walshie actually. He is a Wigan lad you know!!!
Monk Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 This is a bit of a bother. If Royle, Jewell or Dowie get their names in the hat for this one then it will delay us signing a manager surely?
Ultra Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Walshie actually. He is a Wigan lad you know!!! No, he's from Preston. He just played for Wigan. Though surely he must have been a legend there too?

Its more due to the fact that they've lost the last 6 & haven't won in 10 that he's gone if the results had been spread out more evenly & they were where they are now he'd probably still be there!

Look who they've played! Not easy fixtures.
BigGibbo Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Look who they've played! Not easy fixtures. Of course, none of them are but few managers would still be in a job after no wins in 10 & 6 straight defeats!
Micky Ruddle Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 It's now the case for managers nowadays, win - you're safe, lose - you're in the red for a certain amount of time. Exceptions with Fergie and Venga.
Durnerz Posted 5 November 2007 Author Posted 5 November 2007 Don't want either, thanks. There are more exciting options and we're due some excitement aside from the Cup. Let me Guess......Steve Beaglehole?
Bryn Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Let me Guess......Steve Beaglehole? Don't think I've heard Thracian mention Beaglehole in several months now, but good effort all the same.
Head Honcho Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Hilarious. It was never going to work out for him there. Same with Sammy Lee. My thoughts exactly! A farcical couple of appointments and they only have themselves to blame.
Simi Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 They gambled and tried to go for the cheap option. IN the long run, it will cost a lot more.
