Rich Fox Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 This just goes to show we have the players to be higher in this league, its always the case we say someones crap playing for us and they move on somewhere else and they look 10 times better There was not enough effort on saturday and im suprised at a side managed y taggart peraps hes really a pusseycat.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 I was just thinking the other day it's been a while since we had players in the Under-21s. Mattock especially at 17 is just unbelievable. I can only think of players like Walcott and Owen getting in the Under-21s at that age.

I can only think of players like Walcott and Owen getting in the Under-21s at that age. Think the last player might have been Sir Trev. But thats a good shout about the ages as well. Think Alan Smith, Mark Noble and James Milner made it at 17. But not entirely sure.
Joe. Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Ok (hopes this one isn't deleted). Seriously though, has Stuart Pearce actually watched these two this season? Neither have been particularly great this season, admittedly Mattock's been the better of the two but still, if these two are the future of English football then I fear. Stearman has unfortunately been nothing short of woeful this season, even if he has been playing out of position. There's absolutely no way he's good enough to get into an England under-21 squad. Obviously I think it's great our players are getting into an England squad but there's no doubt in my mind that it's undeserved.
Staf Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Congratulations Mattock and Stearman do leicester proud
Wezleylowski Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 I hope Milan is planning on expanding the Walkers, Stearmans over-inflated ego will require at least one stand. Big headed ****

Jonbluefox9 Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 I can't believe how quickly Mattock is progressing. He impressed me when I first saw him play a full game for the under 18s last season. I thought he looked one of the best players on the pitch despite his age and he's kept progressing but I can't believe he's been called up for England under 21s about a year down the line. An amazing achievement and he should be pleased with himself! I know Stearman hasn't been the greatest for a while now but well done to him too. He's definitely got talent but maybe lacks the desire.
breadandcheese Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Well done to both of them. They've obviously been noticed by England scouts, who will have been keeping a regular tab on them. Hopefully, England won't be playing wingbacks so we can actually see how much better they can play when playing in a position and role familiar to them. *Don't mention Trevor Benjamin and his call-up. It only happened to stoke up local interest in a match to be held at the Walkers.
Rocky Dennis Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Gobsmacked Am pleased for them of course, just cannot beleive it-especially Stearman. His head may get even bigger now.
Rocky Dennis Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Congratulations Mattock and Stearman do leicester proud Never thought i'd see those words in the same sentence!

England won 3-0 and there was this incredible youngster on show by the name of Jermaine Pennant. Trev came on and missed an open goal. Happy days.

You can tell I never bothered going to the odd international we've had over the years. Though we've always seemed to have a good record for players called up to the U21s. I remember Kitson, Joachim, Muggleton, Heskey all appearing over the years. I'm sure there were others too. Not bad for a club of our size.

foxer Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Defenders Joe Mattock and Richard Stearman are celebrating call-ups to the England Under-21 squad. Mattock (17), who only signed a new three-year deal at Leicester City on Friday, had initially been named in the Under-19s for their friendly against Germany on Wednesday. But following withdrawals from Stuart Pearce's side after the weekend's action, he has been promoted to the Under-21s for the two crucial upcoming UEFA European Championship Qualifiers along with 20-year-old Stearman. Pearce's side will host Bulgaria on Friday (November 16) at Milton Keynes (6pm) before travelling to Agueda for the clash against Portugal next Tuesday (November 20 - 9pm). If Mattock and/or Stearman play a part then they will become the first Foxes players to represent England Under-21s since Jordan Stewart. Stewart came on as a substitute in March 2003 when the Under-21s played Portugal in a 2004 European Championship qualifier. And the duo, who have both come through the Academy ranks at the club, were understandably delighted with the news. Mattock said: "The call-up came out of the blue but I found it hard to contain my excitement. "I immediately got on the phone to my family and friends to pass on the good news. "My target this season was always to get as many games as possible and the rewards would hopefully follow. "For a 17-year-old to be included in an Under-21 squad is a dream come true but I certainly won't be getting carried away." Stearman, who has previously played for England Under-17s, 18s and 19s, added: "I'm delighted with the news - to represent my country has always been a target of mine. "I've enjoyed a good run of games for the first-team of late and have been pleased with the way things have been going. "So to be selected to play for England at Under-21 level is an honour and a privilege and I am determined to give it 100 per cent and prove my worth." Academy Manager Jon Rudkin added: "It is a great honour for Joe and Richard. "It will prove to be a great experience for them; working in and around some of the Premier League's top young players. "The call-up is recognition of all their hard work and effort and hopefully they will benefit from the experience." Mattock has played 11 games for the Foxes first-team to date while Stearman made his 100th appearance during the 1-1 draw at Preston last Tuesday. Pleased by how things are going? But he is sh1t and most of our performances have been too.......
James_lcfc Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Stearman in the U21's??...this HAS to be a joke! surely! He's one of our worst players for crying out loud and look how bad we are. Unbelivable.
Scow Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 My god, I thought a plague would need to break out for Stearman to get anywhere near the squad. I think Pearce has taken something - probably the same stuff Pardew took when he decided to pay us 650k for McCarthy. Well done to Mattock though.
mancunianfox Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Aren't you lot supposed to be supporters??? Two of our young lads have been called up into the England U21 squad something that hasn't happened in a while. That is a massive achievement and we should all be very pleased for them. Instead everyone jumps on here to run them down and talk about how s**t they are. Why can't we just celebrate that a couple of our players have been recognised as promising talents for once? Jeez.
David O'Leary Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Stearman got in.........Jesus what is the world coming to these days
WetFlannel Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 lets hope the two grab their opportunities, although they may not be in the best form of their lives, hopefully they gain experience from this outing and come back better players... especially mattock as he seems the one with the future
crisp monster Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 i'm going on Friday and hopefully they will be asked to pass it along the floor won't hold my breath though
Chairman of the Bored Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Good luck to both of them. Whether they deserve to be in or not, it's good to see someone from Leicester City in an England shirt again.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Uncalled for words* What has Joe Mattock done so far this season that has been so bad? I've been to all but one of the games that he's played for the first team and I can't remember him 'disgracing' the City shirt on any of those occasions. He's 17 years old! If he looks out of place in first team football every now and again then I think his age is a valid reason. I can't believe that you as a City supporter are hoping one of our talented youngsters, and Mattock is talented, gets injured!
