Ric Flair Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Surely it shows how shite our english youngsters are if mattock and stearman are in the squad! Or that our fans know fook all about football? It's a mixture of the two I imagine.
Maybes Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Or that our fans know fook all about football? It's a mixture of the two I imagine. Joe mattock is a handy player. Richard stearman well. He's either good or merely average. And they play for our club for a reason.
Mark Posted 16 November 2007 Author Posted 16 November 2007 Or that our fans know fook all about football? It's a mixture of the two I imagine. Very true, and of those idiotic fans of ours expecting the perfect player at their ages should take a long hard look at themselves, who do they think they are? From what I can see two of our young players getting into the England U21s is the most promising news since Mandaric took over, and so what if Stearman hasn't been on top form, has anyone?
Joe. Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 It'd be great to see Mattock start, a good learning experience for him.

I don't think Stearman is anywhere near as bad this season as he was last year other than that his goals have dried up. Defensively he's got a lot better, but he's no wing-back, yet he's being picked there and doing a job. It riles me he's not given a chance at centre half where I believe is the position he'll fulfill his potential at.

Wherethefoxhat? Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Surely it shows how shite our english youngsters are if mattock and stearman are in the squad! That's right----------give them all your support & encouragement why don't you ???????????
Fat Ron Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 That's right----------give them all your support & encouragement why don't you ??????????? In fairness, it is suprising to see them in the Squad, they havent been Outstanding or Superb but due to injuries they are there so fair play... Thats how Football works sometimes.. Mattock is more a suprise because he is only 17, although on the run of games he maybe deserved the call ahead of Stearman..
Maybes Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 That's right----------give them all your support & encouragement why don't you ??????????? I didn't say I wasn't encouraging them? Im happy for them that they are in the squad. Im just stating that its worrying from an english perspective that they are being selected.
loverofinsanefox Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Perhaps reflecting on Stearmans form etc, the above statement is a fair one with regards to him. But to suggest Mattocks inclusion is bad for English prospectives is pretty unjust. At 17 hes got plenty of time to develop, and the interest shown in him by other clubs clearly reflect hes got a lot of potential in the game!

Im just stating that its worrying from an english prospective that they are being selected. I agree with you. I'm going to support them obviously because it's not very often we get Leicester players in English National teams, but there's still the thoughts in my mind they don't really warrant a place in that squad.
davieG Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Pearce has watched us a few times recently, according to reported sightings. I'm sure he must know what he requires and that Stearman fits in with those. People seem to forget he's still relatively young and is still learning, very few of those playing at under 21 level reach the vey top in the game so all this wringing of hands over his ability seems somewhat over the top to me.
Bert Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 According to? The sun claim this to. Joe mattock is a handy player. Richard stearman well. He's either good or merely average. And they play for our club for a reason. Yeah, because we were the one's that developed them and they are plying their trade with us now. It's funny that both of these young players have come through the acadamy. Mattock is only 17, did you expect him to be a superstar straight away? Oh and, in all fairness, i think they've been called up due to players pulling out, but let's hope they can both grasp their chance.
moseeds Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 And they play for our club for a reason. I thought they played for Leicester because it's their home town? And they're still kids although Stearman is no longer considered youth he is still very young. That's another point - why aren't leicester doing everything they can we're in a unique position in that we can tap up kids from all over the south midlands? There's not much competition (there's that 90 min living distance for youth players/scholars rule right?)
Wycombe Fox Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 That's cracking - Mattock starts, Stearman on the bench!
Cobbo Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Cracking stuff Although the first thing I heard was Joe crossing it out of play - but for a 17 year old to be playing for the under 21's shows that he has great potential I think Stearman would be better against younger players, can't get intimidated as much - he still has some potential but really needs to step it up a notch.
Brainy Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Mattock's just made an excellent goal line clearance
Cobbo Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Mattock just backheeled it off the line Gavin Peacock just said it was brilliant.

Unabomber Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Well played Joe, bit of a nervous start, but cracking clearance
