Stevosevic Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 I know there may be problems with the new board at Birmingham but why would he go there?
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 I know there may be problems with the new board at Birmingham but why would he go there? Paddy Power stopped taking bets on Brucey now.
Matt Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 I know there may be problems with the new board at Birmingham but why would he go there? I initially thought that, there's not, much difference in the size of the two clubs, but Bruce is worried about being sacked when/if the takeover at Birmingham goes through. So does he stay and gamble on keeping his job, or go and possibly go down/fuking up at Wigan?! Dilemma.
Brainy Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 "... more next on the future of Wigan's next manager." SSN
DB11 Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 Bruce would surely be an idiot not to take this job...
Nath Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 If Wigan are given permission in the end, should/would we sneak in? I wouldn't mind him
Koke Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 I think its something to do with the fact that Brum haven't even offered him a new contract. So obviously Steve "I always moan about refs" Bruce gotta think about his own future.
Simi Posted 18 November 2007 Author Posted 18 November 2007 Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has revealed he hopes to appoint Steve Bruce as the club's new manager on Monday. The Latics supremo says a contract has been verbally agreed between all parties and that it is just awaiting Bruce's signature. Wigan made an approach for Bruce earlier this week as they look for a successor to Chris Hutchings. Bruce, who had a brief spell in charge of Wigan in 2001, is highly-regarded by Whelan and he sees the former Manchester United defender as the ideal man to transform their fortunes. Bruce's future at Birmingham has been the subject of speculation for some time because of the uncertainty surrounding Carson Yeung's proposed takeover of the club. Whelan is now confident that he has managed to lure Bruce to The JJB Stadium with a deal expected to be finalised on Monday. "We will have a meeting with Steve on Monday and we are hoping we can make an announcement on Monday or Tuesday," Whelan told Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme. "We look like we have a contract agreed but nothing has been signed. There is no doubt from the very start when we approached he was keen to come to Wigan." Whelan admitted it has cost the club somewhere in the region of £3million in compensation to secure Bruce's release from Birmingham Clause "There is a clause in there and we have to honour that. We have agreed that with Birmingham," added Whelan. "To get a manager of Steve Bruce's quality I think that is a bargain." Whelan is also hoping to bring Bruce's assistant Eric Black to The JJB, but Birmingham are keen to keep the Scotsman at St Andrews. "Eric Black has to be agreed between Steve and the management," explained Whelan. "I understand Birmingham want some continuity. He wants to come with Steve because a team always stays together. "Whether he will come immediately I don't know. "It is a mess when you are looking for a new manager. Everything is stirred up. "It is never a happy time and the sooner it is over and Steve joins us I will be a very happy man."
Flynny Posted 18 November 2007 Posted 18 November 2007 Brum probably heading straight back down then. I reckoned they'd stay up but I don't see it happening now.
The Reverend Posted 18 November 2007 Posted 18 November 2007 Bruce is a decent manager, but its always difficult putting your views across to a struggling team. He has time though. But who are Brum gona get? Silly to get rid of Bruce.

lookwhaticando Posted 18 November 2007 Posted 18 November 2007 Brum probably heading straight back down then. I reckoned they'd stay up but I don't see it happening now. With - potentially - a lot of moolah to splash in January, they could just pull a rabbit out of the hat and get a half decent manager to keep them afloat. I was of the same opinion... I thought that with Bruce they'd remain in the top flight. If they don't appoint someone good, and quick, they just might drop.

Difficult time for Birmingham to appoint a manger really, with the takeover looking like it's hanging in the balance, you would imagine that he would want his own input on who the new manager is going to be, so they may take the idea to delay the decsion a bit. You do get the feeling that other Premiership managers will be sacked soon, so maybe hang around for one of them? Other than that I can only think they'd be choosing from.. Souness Jewell *insert up and coming Championship manager*
Matt Posted 18 November 2007 Posted 18 November 2007 Just heard reports of Wigan possibly paying £3 Million compensation to Birmingham
Simi Posted 18 November 2007 Author Posted 18 November 2007 Just heard reports of Wigan possibly paying £3 Million compensation to Birmingham I guess it will be worth it in the long run should they stay up and get god knows how many million.
lookwhaticando Posted 19 November 2007 Posted 19 November 2007 SounessJewell *insert up and coming Championship manager* Give it a couple of weeks and they'll pinch Tigana/Holloway/Cotterill/<actual LCFC manager> off of us.
Finnegan Posted 19 November 2007 Posted 19 November 2007 Hahaha. This is Charlton/WHam all over. Bruce's Wigan to drop and the Blues to stay up with Jewel?

Bojimha Posted 19 November 2007 Posted 19 November 2007 I've had an email from my mate to say the people in his office reckon Birmingham will not get anyone in permanently until Carson Yeung has completed his takeover and then they will go for Francesco Guidolin
