Manager Posted 7 December 2007 Posted 7 December 2007 It certainly seemed to me that Sheehan was used mainly in a defensive role against Burnley and, yes, Clemence is defensive and would be in my team. With three up front and King that is four attackers plus Sheehan in a more attacking role. That attacking threat would be reduced if he played full-back or as a wide partner for Mattock because, as against Quorn in the pre-season friendly, he would get many shooting positions. You've only got to watch the pre-match shooting and accurately Sheehan can hit a ball given chance. Why neutralise that? It's a waste just as playing Kings as a full-time defender is a waste. Reading the tea leaves (we still use them) I think the formation will obviously be close to the one that finished last Tuesday. ("Maybe the 4-4-2 formation didn't suit those out there - in the second half we looked far better balanced" - IH) Mattock might lose out to Sheehan because of the latter's free kicks, but I would expect to see Mattock at some stage. Weso is "keen as badger" - IH so he will start him. I think Maybury will lose out on the bench. So: Marton Fulop, Richard Stearman, Patrick Kisnorbo, Gareth McAuley, Alan Sheehan Ashley Chambers, James Wesolowski, Stephen Clemence, Andy King, Carl Cort, Iain Hume. Subs: Paul Henderson, Bruno N'Gotty, Shaun Newton, Joe Mattock, Darren Kenton. Could be wrong though . .

If that's put together in a 4-3-3, or perhaps with King in the hole, it looks sensibly put together. It's a bit short of attacking options on the bench as I'm sure you're aware, but what fit forwards do with have with genuine first team claims? I wouldn't want Kingy on the left wing though. I saw him out wide in a friendly at Cambridge and it didn't suit him.

Course we could bring in Sappleton but would have to drop 2 others from the bench to make room
MPH Posted 7 December 2007 Posted 7 December 2007 i know he said he is getting some wingers in, in january..... so i dont know what he will do with the formation... i STILL dont understand why kaebi hasnt been given a chance at RM.. If he prefers 4-4-2 'all the way' ( a comment he made when joining us) then why change the formation and leave players like him out?

jonw88 Posted 7 December 2007 Posted 7 December 2007 Apparently Wesolowski and James Chambers both returned to training but this saturday's game is too soon for Chambers, but we all know how Weso feels. Therefore I'd expect this: Fulop Stearman Kisnorbo McAuley Mattock??? Wesolowski Clemence SheehanCort HumeSubs: Henderson/Sappleton, N'Gotty, King, Hayes, A.Chambers/Newton As for the ???, could be Newton or would hope A Chambers might get a start, he's seemed to have changed the game when he comes on, gives us that attacking edge. Newton is shite there, there's always Maybury or Kenton, but hopefully not. And as Ollie is wanting to give everyone a chance, why not Kaebi to fill this role? We all know he's pants as a defender but on the right wing as an attacker he could be more promising. Hoping to see him play there soon! We don't have any other strikers who are fit at the moment so hoping Sappleton gets on the bench at least to show why Man Utd are so interested in him.
danny. Posted 7 December 2007 Posted 7 December 2007 put hayes there, he is in good form at the moment. I'd have Fulop Stearman N'Gotty McCauley SheehanA. Chambers  Clemence  King  HayesHume  Cort Subs: Hendo, Kisnorbo, J. Chambers, Sappletizer, Kenton
Mr Happy Posted 8 December 2007 Posted 8 December 2007 The only 2 positions where we have more than 1 player available and you would prefer to see a defender as an attacking Winger and a right sided player at Left Back...Priceless!!! I think your'll find that Bruno has been used as a left-back for us this season and on regards of the right wing position its either use Hume (which is a no-no considering everybodies either injured or inexperienced for the striker position) or if extremely desperate use Newton. Kaebi as we and the managers have decided isn't our answer, Maybury has fallen off pace apparantly so why not try Kenton not like theres anybody else ready to step up. Unless you have a better answer?
