Clemence Speaks

Hello everyone,

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't seen or heard some of your opinions within our local media following last Saturday's disappointing home defeat to Southampton at the Walkers.

Ollie and I made our feelings perfectly clear post match and this obviously went down like a lead balloon in certain quarters.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and should be respected for that but at this important stage of the season, with Christmas just around the corner, it is imperative that we remain united and pull in the same direction.

It is never nice to hear one of your team-mates being booed off the pitch and nobody deserves that treatment - that reaction doesn't help anybody and creates more harm than good.

Of course, every footballer has their bad days, myself included, but it's certainly not through a lack of trying.

I can assure you that every player on this team always gives 100 per cent when they are involved.

Believe you me we are just as frustrated as you guys are at the moment.

You are the paying customers and deserved to be entertained - in return I'd just ask for your patience and full backing.

As footballers we must do better but there is a degree of nervousness around this place at present and I think that came to a head last weekend.

As an experienced professional and club captain it is my job, along with the other senior pros in the squad, to make more of an impact on games and help settle things down after such a turbulent start to the campaign.

I know for one that I have to do better.

But as a squad, I firmly believe that we are showing early signs of progress under the new management team.

Of course, Ollie's got his hands tied somewhat until the January transfer window opens, but he is giving everyone a fair crack of the whip, and we are attempting to play more attacking football, play with more fluency and get more bodies in the box for crosses.

We are showing signs of development and improvement but it's going to take time and won't happen overnight. Hopefully you can see and appreciate what Ollie is trying to achieve here.

Following Tuesday night's hard-earned 1-1 draw at Burnley, we've got six games remaining this year - that's 18 points to play for and, with your help, I don't see why we can't progress up the table and be in the shake-up come the New Year.

Our home form is key to that and I'd ask you, whether you agree or disagree with what has been said this week, to really make some noise on Saturday afternoon and support us to the hilt.

West Brom are flying under Tony Mowbray and are certain to be backed by a large travelling contingent ion Saturday.

The Baggies play a good style of passing football - their manager demands that. And we all know that we'll have to be at the very top of our game if we want to get anything out of the contest.

So please make some noise and play your part. We really do need to make this place a fortress.

Meanwhile, it was quite ironic that we were drawn out of the FA Cup hat against Southampton again only a day after playing them.

We'll travel to St Mary's on January 5 for the third round tie and it would be nice to go down there and put the record straight.

It's not a bad draw for us and I believe we can defeat them. We are looking forward to it.

Finally this is our last home game before Christmas so on behalf of the players I'd like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas.

Hopefully we'll be in the ascendancy come our next home match against Ipswich Town on Boxing Day and will be able to look forward to a prosperous New Year both on and off the pitch.

He's making all the right noises, and I like what he's saying but sadly that's about it. Actions speak louder than words Clem & quite frankly there's been precious little action from him or anyone else really.

Spot on with his Cort comments, mind.

I'd have more respect for Clemence if he just concentrated on his game.

Maybe he can't when he and his team are being criticised left right and centre. Some people don't work well under that kind of pressure.

I'm not disagreeing with the logic there, it's probably a factor.

Having said that, it's the nature of the beast. He correctly identifies himself as an experienced professional footballer and this is part of the job at times.

The article is unlikely to persuade the boo-ers not to boo, partly because half of them won't be able to read and partly because if they feel that strongly about it, an article from the Captain saying 'please don't' is hardly likely to have any effect.

Surely there is more dignity and eventually more pleasure in overcoming the the odds in a quite, efficient manner.

Let your actions speak, leave words to others.

Seriously, this club is a fu cking media circus.

Words are empty.

that is a valid point you got....

I think part of the reason why so many fans are frustrated is because its words we have had for the last few years ( and managers)

rightly or wrongly, the players we have now are getting 4 years worth of frustration.. They of course will not understand that or agree with that because they are a new bunch and dont want the stigma of being part of the dross we have witnessed, which, in being labelled with is probably dragging them down..

They might not understand our frustration, but maybe they can be understanding of it, which is a completly different thing.

The same maybe can go for us and them.

All that aside, they need to play for the badge on saturday and we need to sing for it.

It's a crying shame we have a squad full of players that don't work well under pressure then

Yeah - no one mentioned this 'pressure' when they signed their huge money contracts.

Jesus, somebody pass the violin!

What a bunch of moaning, soppy, whingey pissbags! If you’re paid £10,000 to kick a ball 3 yards and you fail upon doing so, expect to get booed you fcuking twats!

God, Clemence needs to learn to shut his mouth off the pitch and start performing, rather than giving these pathetic sob stories. If they don’t like it they can fook off !!!

More words from the Captain, probably the worst in my opinion at the moment in our 1st team, based on how well he did last season and how shit hes doing now. I don't think fans can really make a difference by making noise, the players should already be lifted and confident. What the fans do doesn't really

make much difference. Why do the players need to be lifted by the fans? they are being paid thousands of pounds a week just to kick a ball around ffs  They should already be lifted.

Stop wasting time writing this Captain, you could be on the training pitch and working on your average game. Stop hinting at blaming the fans for the position we are in just because we don't make noise. We have seen years of shit and years of greatness before the shit making the shit we are experiencing now 10 times worse.

Shut up Clemence and start playing

No complaints at all.

No.

Doesn't it piss you off though the fact they're making out it's so hard to take getting booed? I mean FFS!!! Why don't they try taking their heads out of their own arses for a minute and see what it's like in the real world!!

Oh oh, sorry Clemsy. .....we hope we didn't hurt your poor little feelings. I hope life isn't too hard for you, don't worry Clemmie all will be ok. Best wishes to Carl Cort, I just don't know how he'll cope..??

I actually hate them all.

He's only trying to liven the Walkers up a bit, which is what is needed, instead of hissing and booing all the time.

There are reasons for Walkers being a easy place to come and play for the last 4 years and our pathetic boo boy sit down and shut up crowds are one of them. And the players would say that as well if they could do so without causing a up roar.

Clem seems to have become a bit self-important with his arm-band and his ex-premiership status and what with him being the only midfielder we have.

Perhaps it's time he started running instead of jogging around the field. PASS ME THE VIOLIN!!

I agree with the points people make about money etc, there getting paid a fortune and not producing so they deserve a good boo if they play crap.

Clemence needs to show what h's made of rather than living on his reputation, overated or what.
