TrickyTrev Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 No chance. They've both got good touches, Hume is a decent footballer - just because he works hard doesn't mean he's got no first touch. People over-simplify his ability to come up with reasons why our attack doesn't score many goals. They're just a bit too lightweight, inconsistent and slow to play together as a front pairing unless you have a midfield laying chances on a plate for them week in week out. I think Howard and Hume/Campbell is the way forward. Fryatt has too many limitations to be even close to effective in a team with no midfield. More to the point they both prefer to drop deep and recieve the ball to feet, this hasn't been working for two reasons. 1) We only have one player in the whole midfield who can pass the ball. So they rarely revieve it unless its a punt at neck height. 2) When they do recieve it they are forced to go on mazy dribbles/take on long shots because the other has also dropped short and thus there is nobody to pass forward to. We need someone to play on the shoulder of the last defender (DJ) or a target man with some wingers to spred the ball to. Our set up is literally diabolical at the moment. Players like Hume, Clemence and Fryatt are still able to show their ability with in it. We should be looking to build our side around them and get even more out of them rather than sell them football manager style and build a whole new side mid season.
WetFlannel Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Many people are saying that Hume is useless because he isnt a 20 goal a season striker... Give up. How many strikers are around that are going to give you 20 goals... only a selected few. Hume has got around 8 goals so far half way through the season, which is an exceptional total as most of the goals he has scored hes created for himself. 2 free kicks, lob against ipswich, watford, west brom (taking the risk to carry on the run and challenge the goalkeeper) and alot more that havent been fed on a plate for him. Hes been the only one so far this season to change the game purely by himself with these goals. When we are playing bad, example taken from QPR, he will curl a free kick in to at least give us a glimer of hope. Ipswich he also conjures something brilliant. Many more examples could be given for this season and the previous one, and I think I would be very upset if he left...
The People's Hero Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I was only really quibbling with you on the idea that Fryatt has any sort of vision. The rest of it was just a general rant. Fryatt's technical ability boils down to excellent close control. That's about it. He's missed so many good chances this season that people are starting to finally, and rightly, question his finishing too. If he could shoot from distance we'd have a decent player on our hands but he can't. His close control is only useful when there's a chance he can get in behind the defence like Fulham away and Derby at home last season. The vast majority of it though is done from deep where there's little threat and he ends up shooting poorly from distance. I knew if I waited long enough there would be a sensible post today. Thanks Fez.
Nick Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I think we should burn everybody except Hume and Howard and start again. The question is, who to torch first?

I think he does have vision but I never get the feeling that anyone else in the team knows what he is going to do. I had defended Fryatt prior to the QPR game based on the glimpses of his talent we have seen but I can no longer defend his finishing, especially after the chances he squandered against QPR. At the moment I feel that we can afford to sell him and I think that if he went to a club like Norwich whose style would better suit him he could do well in the division. I am beginning to come to the conclusion that he will never score many goals for Leicester even though he is a good footballer.

It's why Hume and Hammond was a more successful partnership last year. When you don't create chances for your strikers you need them to possess all those physical attributes that will muscle you through games. That's why I think Howard will do well for us.
scottybbmf Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Seen on another forum Hume might be off to fulham or everton, sounds hard to believe everton want him tho, there is no source or link nfo.Anyone know anymore about this? 4 million to fulham but that cant be right hes not worth half that

He better had! I'm bricking it at the prospect that he is going to be another signing who starts brightly and then loses his confidence after ten games.
richy2704 Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 How much do you think he is worth, I have seen him play a few times and think he is a quality player, I like Fryatt as a player aswell. Cant understand why you would want to sell.

He is good, but there's better strikers in the world/division. We just seem to always go for the shit ones. Personally, I would rather we kept him. He's the best of a bad bunch...would never cut it in the prem though in my opinion.
surrifox Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 I believe that there are sell on payments due for both Hume and Fryatt so we would need to cover that . Perhaps we should ask sunderland type fees if kavanagh is "worth" £1 mill Hume has got be worth at least twice that
Narborough Bod Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 I knew if I waited long enough there would be a sensible post today. Thanks Fez. Fryatt's record hardly stands out either. Granted, it's been in a very bad team, but his record is as follows 61+14 as sub, 13 goals big bad DV 41+22 as sub, 11 goals And DV's misses leave you smiling as they are normally fairly entertaining. Not trying to say DV was the answer to our prayers, but just that Fryatt isn't the messiah that half the kop seem to think he is. PS - as a bit of a spanner, how do I give myself a picture?

shrek1970 Posted 5 January 2008 Posted 5 January 2008 Leicester's Iain Hume will be joining Toronto FC. Toronto FC coach Mo Johnston has been monitoring Hume's progress and will make Hume Toronto's Designated Player just like Beckham was made the DP at La Galaxy. The deal will be a transfer worth 950 k. Hume himself has expressed his desire to leave Leicester due to the influx of new forward signings. The deal will take place at the start of the next MLS season. Got this off football rumours need I say more!

That site has said similar things about hume going to toronto fc before, i seriously doubt that hume would want a transfer to the MLS at this stage of his career. I would say the chance of it happening is less than 1%
