MPH Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 Ipswich have 1mil bid rejected when checking the footy news on my mobile, it said that plymouth are holding out for 2 million and it mentioned us as a possible destination. It also said one of the reasons they were holding out for more money is because of a 50% sell on clause that his previous team ( bolton i think) had on him. Will find a link when i get home from work..
ibbosuk Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I agree it sounds like a lazy journo efforts, I see on ssn that Fulop has been recalled to Sunderland?, and I would be very surprised if Norris doesnt sign a new contract with us and lets be honest Scott Sinclair isnt going to ANY championship club when he is getting more chances to play in the Chelsea first team squad.Lee Martin has/is staying the rest of the season(depending on which web site) Barry Hayles has been an excellent player for The Green Army but I think in all honesty any deal where we can get some dosh for a 35 yr old is great especially when he is out of contract in six months, he is a solid,aggresive give it all player and will be missed, but with your money we will replace him. I don't think you have a cat in hells chance of hanging on to Norris, their is no way he will sign a new contract for you, you'll get over the odds for him 1.5 - 2m... But forget all about hanging on to him. He won't be a Plymouth player at the end of this month as you are always skint and their are just to many championship sides with money right now. One of us will prize him away from you. The best you can hope for is that its not Holloways Leicester City.

Firstly we are not skint and have never been in debt and are above you in the league and since promotion to the championship have NEVER finished below you.(Money didnt get us to this position) Secondly we have no requirement to sell him he is contracted to us untill 2009 so it dosesnt matter whatsoever if other CCC clubs have more money than us, only six teams are above us and lets be honest there is alot more than six who have more money than us. I beleive we would be looking at 2 mil plus but there is a new rumour that Bolton may want him back for 3.2 mil(that way we get 1.6), to be honest it does not bother me what club he goes to(Even Leicester)it just pi**es me off that the club would consider selling him to a championship rival when we do stand a genuine chance of getting a play off place.

I think the issue is that players in your team are limited as to how big a contract they can get from you because, and i dont wish to be rude when i say this, you have a smaller budget for wages due to getting smaller crowds , ect. So, they are seeing clubs like Leicester and Palace getting chairman in who want to spend big ( we have not had a home game this season where we have had less than 21,000 people turn up, even considering our poor league position) and are more able to sustain paying bigger wages out. I have no idea what wages Norris is on but i think he could earn significantly more with us, or at 5 or 6 other championship teams.. And that there is the issue. Not who has a better team, better manager or better club set up or even better league position, just who has the most money.

I agree we do have a smaller budget and yes our crowds are not great(ironically better since Ollie left and Luggy came back)I am not sure what Barry Hayles was on but we will be able to use his wages to bump up Chucks wages and hope that will be enough. I think he will stay untill the end of the season and if we dont go up then yes I think he will leave, as I said he is under contract untill 2009 and is openly negotiating a new deal either way I cant see him leaving untill at least the summer. Mind you I didnt see Ollie leaving us to go to you lot hmmmm, a wait and see on that I think. And that there is the issue. Yeah but they will get 100% for hayles (well would have) but they only stand to get 50% for Norris due to sell on clause so 200k for norris & 1 million for Hayles = 1.1 million 1 million for norris & 200k for hayles = 700k
