Calum McDermott Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 IMO Howard is quite a good signing as he is strong, good in the air, not a bad goalscorer and will generally be difficult for the oppositions defenders to deal with! Hayles i am not too sure about as i have rarely seen him play in the championship... only at fulham. Your Views?
Moreton Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I agree with you i watched howard last season at derby and i was impressed with his work, however hayles i do not really know alot about so i think we should just give him a chance and see how he turns out, who knows he might be the regular, prolific goal scorer we have been after
Manwell Pablo Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Not really. One of them I could just about put up with but I don't know why we've signed two old Carthorses who are good in the air. Depends how much we paid and how much we are paying them, which I'm guessing is quite a bit in Howards case at least. He'd better score some goals.
Moreton Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I cant really see why we signed Hayles, he was with Ollie at Bristol Rover and Plymoth and now Leicester so perhaps he see something in him that we dont.
Libertine Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Hayles. I'm warming to Howard though. But too long a contract.
DB11 Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Holloway likes Hayles so that's probably why he signed him. As to whether he'd be good or not, well he's better than a lot of our strikers
Plymouth Pete Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I cant really see why we signed Hayles, he was with Ollie at Bristol Rover and Plymoth and now Leicester so perhaps he see something in him that we dont. He is obviously just a short term signing to get you moving up the table.
mitchofox Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I agree with you i watched howard last season at derby and i was impressed with his work, however hayles i do not really know alot about so i think we should just give him a chance and see how he turns out, who knows he might be the regular, prolific goal scorer we have been afterIm pleased with both ollie knows alot about Hayles and Howard is strong in the air and not a bad in the box either
MPH Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 i'm prepared for somthing quirky to happen in the 'story' of our new striker signings... I wouldnt be suprised if Hayles ended the season having scored more goals for us than Howard...
Phlashman Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I think they are good signings, I'll wait until they've had a few games before judging them, I hope the rest of the fans do and aren't on their back from Jan 2.
WetFlannel Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 These are typical Ollie signings... Strong and powerful forwards. We really need experience at the moment and im very glad about Hayles, plus Howard is also proven in this division. Also, its shows Sturrock is clearly in position where he can sell to us, despite all his statements hes came out with. Both signings i agree with... Now all we need is midfielders
Benji Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Dammit! Why did this have to happen after christmas, if i'd have known i'd have asked mummy for a neckbrace for xmas
evan Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 howard = bit of an awkward bastard, all arms and legs, not much pace but can finish too. new iwan roberts hayles = definitely an awkward bastard, all arms and legs bit of pace but can finish too, new david speedie.
ibbosuk Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 They got 33 goals between them last season......what do our strikers score at 1 goal in 4 or 5 games over a season. Come on we have been piss poor in this department for far to long. They are going to bring a MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT to our goals for Column. WELL DONE OLLIE....PS DON'T FORGET THE WINGERS
Geordie Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 They got 33 goals between them last season......what do our strikers score at 1 goal in 4 or 5 games over a season.Come on we have been piss poor in this department for far to long. WELL DONE OLLIE....PS DON'T FORGET THE WINGERS But Hume is wonderful and world class The ignorance towards other players from within the Championship is horrific in here
scrivins2 Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 both old past and obviosly no thought went into thinking about te future as they will not last
WetFlannel Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 both old past and obviosly no thought went into thinking about te future as they will not last Why do they necessarily need to alst for the future? We're in a crisis now, and we need to get out as quick as possible...
J.Lisemore Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 i think that Howard is a great signing becaus he provides us with something we havent got at the minute...a prolific striker who can bag goals at this level. On the other hand im not keen on Hayles as he is getting on a bit now but give him a chance and hope he proves me wrong!
leicgers Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 A really positive day for the club, both Milan and Olly showing they mean buisness and are not gonna accept the current level of dross being served up (last 2 games excluded in that).
nickm Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I think they are good signings, I'll wait until they've had a few games before judging them, I hope the rest of the fans do and aren't on their back from Jan 2. watched howard on sky sports yesterday and he looks about as good as cort and collins john-more wasted money
lee7 Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 both old past and obviosly no thought went into thinking about te future as they will not last what about the young players we have already got who have all played for us this season. stearman, mattock, wesolowski, sheehan, hayes, chambers and king. surely all ones for the future.
Jonezy Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Great signings! They will give us something both on and off the pitch. Howard is a coup in my opinion. He had a huge impact on Derby's promotion campaign last season and he is a perfect striker for this division. Well done Ollie and MM.
mmarkie Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 But Hume is wonderful and world class The ignorance towards other players from within the Championship is horrific in here not really
Thracian Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I'm underwhelmed. I can't stop humming the signature tune for Steptoe and Son.
