gosfox Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Not really. One of them I could just about put up with but I don't know why we've signed two old Carthorses who are good in the air.Depends how much we paid and how much we are paying them, which I'm guessing is quite a bit in Howards case at least. He'd better score some goals. We are a struggling championship side....... who would you expect to sign?? Well done Ollie..... lets hope these signings work for us
Thracian Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 what about the young players we have already got who have all played for us this season. stearman, mattock, wesolowski, sheehan, hayes, chambers and king. surely all ones for the future. I'd predict that maybe one of those will be playing for us in 12 months, if that.
Webbo Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Howard's not a bad signing, though I think we've paid a bit too much and given him a too long of a contract, market forces I suppose . Hayle's signing does seem a little strange but Ollie said that they were both good characters, perhaps that's what we've been crying out for.
Dr_Fox Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 They got 33 goals between them last season......what do our strikers score at 1 goal in 4 or 5 games over a season.Come on we have been piss poor in this department for far to long. They are going to bring a MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT to our goals for Column. WELL DONE OLLIE....PS DON'T FORGET THE WINGERS 33 goals between them last season...do tell how many they've scored this season?? not quite such a wholesome figure is it!! Hayles is well past his prime. This season he's been playing for a successful Plymouth side and not scoring goals; I fail to see how he's suddenly going to be the answer to our prayers when we're struggling at the other end of the table! Howard is slightly better prospect but is still a player past his prime and we've spent a lot of money on him which I think would have been better used on strengthening other areas of the squad
Mighty Muzzy Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 At least they both worked their socks off during the QPR game...which is more than can be said for some of the muppets we currently have on our books!
Bluemoon Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I'm underwhelmed. I can't stop humming the signature tune for Steptoe and Son. Which one is Harold? I think, as a precondition, Barry demanded a glass in his locker for his teeth.
Ultra Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 At least they both worked their socks off during the QPR game...which is more than can be said for some of the muppets we currently have on our books! Howard seemed quite promising. Hayles on the other hand looked like the new Cort. But overall judgement should be reserved for the next month or so, perhaps until we finally bring in a decent midfield.
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 But Hume is wonderful and world class The ignorance towards other players from within the Championship is horrific in here No mate, the ignorance towards our problem areas oh here is horrific, we can continue to sign as many strikers as we want but we aren't going to score goals until we start creating more openings, we need to sign midfielders and wingers not waste what I hear is nearly two million on Howard and Hayles. We are a struggling championship side....... who would you expect to sign?? Well done Ollie..... lets hope these signings work for us Read above, some creative players, as I said previously I can understand signing one but why both?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 It's the same as in the summer - I didn't mind us signing right-backs and strikers then as long as the problem areas were looked at as well. Which they weren't. Holloway goes on and on about the lack of balance in the squad. Transfer window opens and we add two more strikers. It's ridiculous but I will hold off too much criticism until the window closes. If we still haven't bought any midfielders then... Howard looked good yesterday but it'll all be route one for the rest of the season now. If it's effective, fine - if it's not, it's going to be dreadful to watch.

It doesn't matter who's on the halfway line if Stearman, Kisnorbo and McAuley are in possession at the back, they look up and see a 6 ft 3 forward signalling that he wants the ball in the air. He wins everything up there. That's it for the rest of the season now.

Jack Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 Im liking the Howard signing, looked pretty good yesterday. Not too sure about Hayles though.
Candidcamera Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 Has anyone seen them yet ? Leave it until they are settled in. The home form in particular has been chronic. Strikers can make all the difference at this level.
SuperSwede Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Let's hope the lads find their place on the team. This is very crucial for strikers. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes not, I have a really good feeling bout Howard because he should be able to acclimatise to Leicester rather quickly, with the routine he possesses. Really hope he can be the goalscorer we need to get a descent position in the tables this season!.

Ric Flair Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Holloway always has 2 aggressive strikers up front and neither Fryatt or Hume quite fit that description. Having looked at the amount of flick-ons and general battles that Howard won against QPR's defence, we need someone like Hume to be running on to them. Hayles didn't quite have the pace to get on the end of them, but that might change once they've played together more and have an understanding on each other. Most of Holloway's signings at QPR & Plymouth we'd class as un-inspiring should they have sign for us, but he got them playing better than most of the players who have played at Leicester the past few seasons. Hayles and Howard are proper Championship strikers that chip away at defenders and on average will be more effective than a lot of the more 'skillful' strikers that ply their trades in this division. Howard impressed me a lot on Tuesday, Hayles will get through some miles on the pitch as well. With wingers who can cross and central midfielders who can get a foot on the ball and play it out to the wingers, then we'll score goals on a regular basis. Howard is capable of 20 goals at this level, even if it might not be pretty. We are 5 players away from where we need to be. A new goalie, a new left back, 2 new wingers and a central midfielder.

I want a token long haired, foreign playmaker who is always either injured, suspended, having fallen out with the manager or AWOL. So that's 6 we need.
