Local lad,both him and his Dad are massive Leicester supporters. Rumoured to be Chelsea bound until Mourinio left. Doing a decent job in a crap side If DJ Campbell is worth £2m+ whats that make Mattock?

Chelve84 Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 I would sell him, imo i dont think he even has potential to be a premiership player, he has really struggled this season, every winger has ripped him apart this season and when he gets forward he cant beat his man, the fella aint got no pace and if someone said what is his best attribute, you'd probably say he is left footed and thats it. What is so good about him, cant defend cant go forward. To me he aint good enough for us yet!!!

Not quick, no fancy skill to beat anyone, not tough so noone gets past. He's only 17 - but you still have to demonstrate "something".So it must be as you say - strong for his age and so has been ripping up the youth team leagues - but when people catch up I think he will be an average lower league player. Stearman showed more at his age - and hes yet to set the world on fire. So I would take 50p But what do I know. Agreed.An offer like £1.5 million I'd snap their hands off. Like Steve says, I haven't seen anything from Mattock that suggests to me he's going to be worth much more than that in the future. The aspects of his game that need improving can be improved fairly easily, and I suppose he will improve with age but like I say, I can never see him being a really valued player at this club. Agreed with both the above, and Thrac. He's out of his depth at the moment, skinned on the wing, beaten at the far post - he's apparently got potential but I've not seen it. Stearman was twice the player of Mattock at 17 and look at Stearman now - I for one don't believe in all this hype about Mattock. He's got a left foot and that's about it. Any reasonable offer above £1m and I'd flog him.

I'm personally not sure about the lad's footballing potential- arguably he was a tonne better in his first three games at the end of last season then he has been since, but taking all of this into account he must be worth in excess of £3 million quite easily...

Nationwider Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 The easy way to answer this question would be to accept a £1.5M bid from whoever and then ask Mattock whether he wants to go or not. Who are we to stand in his way if he does? I'm ever the optimist, but playing for LCFC is hardly the best place to further your career at the moment is it? None of our youngsters are going from good to great and even the players we sign seem to get worse over a period of time. Does anyone think Mattock will be as good as Baines or Bale if he stays at City as things stand at the moment? We've always been a selling club, and will remain so forever more unless Bill Gates finds us. Selling a talented youngster gives us a rare bit of kudos and acts as a carrot & stick for others in the academy. £1.5M (and a sell-on clause) could be spent wisely on bolstering our eternally insipid midfield with one or two decent signings. We need to speculate to accumulate, and I'd probably accept a 7-figure bid for either Stearman or Mattock, or possibly both, at the moment. We have a certain amount of cover for them in any case, but we have no sodding attacking midfielders.

Scow Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I'd like to keep him for a while and see how things go. He's gone through a rough patch and perhaps needs to drop down to the reserves for a while or even be loaned out if we bring in someone like Capaldi. Not to forget that a lot of people were raving about him towards the end of last season when he played on the left wing. I'm not saying that is where he should be playing, but it seems a few are quick to forget how well he did.

What ever you decided it would be a gamble. If you siad no, you'd risk nor getting a lot of money for a over rated player, of you said yes, you'd risk selling someone for 1.5 mill when in the future he could be worth 5 times that.
