Would you accept £1.5m for Mattock?

Yes, if they were to bid that based on his current form though I'd wait until he rediscovered his form.

What happened to Plymouth not selling the players?

You'd be crazy to accept that, as long as he's happy he and progresses well we should get at least 3 times that amount.

can you imagine his contract negotiations though?

" and i want a box of that monster munch! Pickled onion flavour! oh and a new pencil case... and i want one of those pencils where you press the end and the lead comes out a bit longer... and it needs to have a rubber on the end...."

and thats probably just alienated me from half the FT members...

Yes.

Bahaha anyone would think this was fifa 05!!! the money players seem to go for nowadays is unreal. and radiculous money is ruining the game!!! what ever happened to Coaching a team to success!!

Then again i think Mattock is one for the future and i dont think we need the dosh and so therefore we should keep him.

No way. If Chris Gunter's good enough to command a 3 - 4m transfer fee, then I'd cling onto Mattock for at least another 18 months to see how he develops. He can't really get any worse, realistically, and the fact he's THAT young means that in another year or so he's still going to be an exciting, potential youngster.

its a bit of a tricky situation to be honest... we WILL be getting a new left winger in, yet that could curb his development...

What do people think about loaning him out for the remainder of the season to help him get regular football and improve as a player?

Oh and we should really be grateful we've got a player like Mattock coming through instead of figuring out how much we can flog him for. :S

No i think he should stay here and battle for his place. The lad has proved he is better then some of the otehr dross we have in our aqaud atm, i seriously beleive him having competition for his palce will bring him forward and make him more determined to improve. I think IH will coach yung Mattock into being a very good player, we have experianced the loan thing with to many of our previous youngsters and they have come back no better, no fitter, then when they left.

ahem Dodds/ Sheehan/ Gradel

With our form of progressing players, we'd be stupid not to take the money.

At various points over the last few years, we've had serious interest for Maybury, Stephen Hughes, Stearman, Kisnorbo, all to see their value diminish.

Also, I haven't yet seen Mattock have one good game at left-back. Obviously, I am no football scout but I haven't yet seen the potential in him that will propel him to becoming a big star. He seems to get caught out defensively week in week out and doesn't yet appear comfortable on the ball when there is a opposition player within a 3 metre radius of him.

Admittedly, I may be a little bit harsh and it might be a confidence thing playing in a bad team without a left winger in front of him, but I'd like something just to make me sit-up and take notice. Instead, I'm always left wondering "Is he too young at the moment?"

I really don't think we should be thinking of selling anyone that isn't on Ollie's get rid list it just undermines the whole concept of togetherness that he is supposedly trying to create. Every time we sell someone from his 'core' squad that would mean trying to integrate yet another new face of which we already need 5/6 - it's just too much.

The only justification would be if we have to sell to raise money to strengthen the squad with ready made players, if that is the situation then I think we're buggered anyway.

Plymouth obviously don't feel the same way about Gosling and you'd have to say their transfer dealings have been a hell of a lot better than ours recently.

It seemed like an interesting and relevant debate to me anyway and it's had enough replies already to suggest I was right.
