Young Foxes Aiming High

Posted on: Tue 08 Jan 2008

Leicester City will face Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday evening (7pm).

And the Foxes under 18 side will go into the game full of confidence following their 6-2 thrashing of Bristol City at the weekend.

The Foxes grabbed a place in the fourth round of the competition following a 1-0 victory over Blackburn last month.

Academy manager Jon Rudkin said: "The FA Youth Cup is a fabulous competition which is steeped in history. We are really looking forward to the tie.

"It's great experience for the young lads to be playing at the Walkers Stadium."

Admission prices on the night are £3 for over-16s and £1 for under-16s.

I can barely muster up the enthusiasm to watch the First Team at the moment.

However..Bloody Good Luck to the Young Uns.

Hope they can show the Firt squaders how to win a game of football at The Walkers!

Unfortunatly it's never going to happen. I agree with Raj, it's difficult to feel enthusiasm about the club after the last few seasons of crap. Every season I think it's going to be different but it never is.

Would be nice to see atleast one team at Leicester do ok though but Crystal Palace have a pretty good youth team.

Come on you blueeeeeeeeeeees.

Wouldn't want to miss it.

Mind you, the normally refreshingly attacking approach of youth matches was altered against Blackburn in the first round when we scored an early goal and showed the same sort of attitude as the first team thereafter.

I was disappointed and saw no reason or excuse for it, especially as I don't rate our defence anyway. Still, we'll see what happens tonight.

Surely the fact that they won vindicated it, your the one who is always complaining about our strange inabilty to get past the 3rd round despite having a good youth team, then when they finally do do it, you moan about the way in which they do it.

Yes I did complain - about our inability to convert endless chances when it came to the Youth Cup, particularly against Huddersfield.

But, while our academy side operates as close to my own philosophy as any, I would see no reason to take a cautious approach when it is so obvious that our attack is our strength.

As for the youngsters running time down in the corner - I warned about it then and the first team lost two points because the lesson wasn't learned less than a month later.

No, stumbling 1-0 wins perhaps achieved by scoring quickly and then defending in numbers would not satisfy me nor would they normally be anything like the extent of my ambition.

Sadly perhaps, I'm the sort who'd even get unhappy about a 4-1 win if the one was conceded carelessly or if we lost concentration and threw easy chances away which would otherwise have meant us scoring seven.

It would take a huge challenge for me to compromise my style of playing in any circumstances because I'm such a believer in making opponents do the worrying.

By doing so against Blackburn I thought we gave them a chance.

It'll be a bit tough tonight if Palace are playing the likes of Bostock and Moses. :|

Sounds like a case of which attack prevails. I'll be interested to see the squad we have out.

Has anyone seen much of Bostock? I haven't but a mate of mine who supports Palace orgasms at the mere mention of his name. Apparently he has the potential to be pretty bloody special.

Going down tonight, should be decent. Got some good talent Palace have, but rumour has it Moses is injured and Bostock played on Saturday.

Should be alright actually, even better that its only a pound. Bostock will play i can feel it. Hopefully Mattock plays aswell.

How likely is that? Seriously?

I've known stranger things. He didn't figure at Southampton and City are keen to do well in this competition.

He certainly attended the last match.

All the best to the City kids. Lets hope that some of them continue to progress and become first team players in the near future.
