Steven Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Is it just me or this completely over the top for a football match. If there is no problem why are they doing it and what is the legal position for this kind of search. From the BBC. Reading are to introduce sniffer dogs looking for drugs as fans enter the Madjeski Stadium but insist it is preventative rather than because there is a problem (Mirror)
Bellend Sebastian Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 I think that rather than boycott Reading, if I ever go there again I just won't take any drugs with me
mancunianfox Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Is it just me or this completely over the top for a football match. If there is no problem why are they doing it and what is the legal position for this kind of search. From the BBC. During my last experience travelling with Manchester United fans on one of Richard Branson's trains the United fans standing next to me were doing coke everytime the two police officers backs were even slightly turned I can kind of understand why they would want to use sniffer dogs on them. I don't why you would think that it would be illegal to carry out this kind of search as unfortunately posession of Class A's is an illegal offence. Sniffer dogs are quite often used by the police on Friday and Saturday nights at lots of nightclubs and this is exactly the same thing. Aside from the issues of right etc I'm not sure I'd ever really want or need to be high at a football match. However I do seriously doubt that drug use really increases the danger of incidents anymore than booze.

Ultra Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 There's no need for this. And other forces may follow suit. It's an excuse for plod to screw even more money out of football clubs and therefore from fans.
Floating Fox Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Luckily it's been cancelled due to 'uproar' from the reading fans. MancFox - It wasn't the Manure fans being searched it was the reading fans. Personally I hate everything about reading & will never go to that stadium.
skinnydipper Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 "Reading are to introduce sniffer dogs looking for drugs ....." Why is it that these dogs don't get stoned if they're sniffing drugs?
Daggers Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Personally I hate everything about reading & will never go to that stadium. I think you ought to persevere - try some with more pictures like a graphic novel or some of the excellent books in the children's section of your local bookshop. Given time you could well find it a rewarding and stimulating experience.
Raj Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Boycott reading??? Reading is good for you...makes you clever and stuff. without reading and writing where would the youth be...and teachers and stuff.....

Ultra Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 Let's not hype things up too much.. This is a long way from the USSR or apartheid-era South Africa.. Especially as next week London will be actually be one of the few places on earth to host a police demo against the government..
purpleronnie Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 Not as bad as some countries but its up there with them. Its certainly the worst I've lived in (USA on and off 5 years), Holland (almost a year), Italy (2 months), Austria (3 months), Germany (2 months), sweden (7 months). I don't think you realise how bad things are until you spend time away from it. I have noticed especially in the last 5 years things getting a lot worse. Thanks Tony!
act smiley Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 Especially as next week London will be actually be one of the few places on earth to host a police demo against the government. Well, without it being a coup, at least.

Simi Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 Reading are a joke. West Ham fans were refused entry the other week if any alcohol could be smelt on them. Yet it's alright to serve it inside the ground. Too right this has been dropped, a step to far. Been as most of them will have been S60'd 5 times before they reach the ground.
Geo V Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 Geoffrey Boycott caught reading? I suppose that means he has less time to beat his missus.

LeeCovFox Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 'I've' actually. Its 'I've' in American English. Double quotation marks will suffice in this country thank you very much.
