cisono Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 i don't get why FF is so popular on here, it's got loads of memory leaks, quite a few security holes and its really slow and sluggish to use! I don't think Firefox is flawless. Far from it. My main problem with Firefox is that it doesn't handle my browsing habits too well. It makes my computer grind to a halt. And I am not the type to install lots of extensions either. I typically have several FF windows open (one per task, up to 18 or so - you know how it is, women like multitasking) and several tabs in each FF window (a couple up to 50 tabs per window, though I once had 87 tabs open in one FF window ). FF thinks it is ok to use something like 480,000Kb memory for this, though this makes my PC grind to a halt (virtually). Closing down FF windows does not reclaim any memory, and only completely killing the process does. This is often the only way to close down Firefox after a couple of days of use. I do resent this immensely. For faster browsing, I also sometimes use FlashPeak SlimBrowser, which seems faster, but I don't like the way it tries to push "aggregated" software on you. Anyone here using Opera? I heard talk of a Firefox Lite, but it turned out to be just wishful thinking...

Erm... doubleyou tee eff? Somehow I manage to get by with one window and a maximum of 15 tabs. Minimalist, that's me.
danny. Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Anyone here using Opera? yup. i'd definately recommend it, way faster than FF and has mouse gestures which are fantastic

FilboFox Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 I've got a Mac and use Safari... better than both of the choices on offer here!
danny. Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 I'm having a look into it... good idea, there's nothing to lose, it's free. The "wand" is fantastic for saving time filling in forms and also passwords. Mouse gestures, once you get used to you can never go back and find yourself trying to use them in every program. And from 9.5 onwards you can sync all your bookmarks which is really useful if you use more than one computer regularly. It looks really ugly out the box but with a little tweaking it can look pretty nice...

SamL Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Definitely Firefox for me, runs faster than IE on my computer.
danny. Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 How do you get Vista to look so... Mac? it's XP, I'm not a fan of vista, too many prompts for everything!! It's just tweaked a bit... - Vista Skin (can't remember where from, loads around though) - YzDock for the bottom dockbar - YzShadow for the shadows on all windows - QTTabBar for tabs in explorer (very useful!) - QTAddressBar for vista style address bar in explorer - WinFlip 3d for the vista style windows+tab flip effect

You sure you couldn't maybe remember Cheers
Granno Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 I use Firefox in 99 percent of all cases - only on matchdays do I switch over to IE (Match Live is not supported by Mozilla). I just click the error message, wait a few seconds and it does actually work in Firefox.
Ashley Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 I like the Vista skin, any one got a link for one?
danny. Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Why not just buy a Mac? I have a mac, not really keen on OSX though, I like the dockbar, not much else. The floating pallettes on every application and top menu bar really grate on me, as does the lack of a taskbar. OK think I have found the skin, its called YAFVC3 and is here http://rotkiv.deviantart.com/art/YAFVC3-Fi...ld-1-5-31184159 Think you will also need this http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enh...e-Patcher.shtml before you can use it as a style (windows only lets you use the official MS ones by default, of which there are about 4 which mostly suck) Also, to hide the "file, edit, view" etc. menus from explorer you need styler: http://www.crystalxp.net/galerie/en.id.551-styler-1-401.html All of this stuff is free and doesn't slow the system down, so worth doing if you use a computer a lot and want to make it a bit nicer/prettier to use.

Although I used Windows Blinds and a lot of Widgets, which looked really cool, but then lost the novelty soon after. Although I'm game for new suggestions...

Foxhateram Posted 22 January 2008 Posted 22 January 2008 I use opera, best browser by miles. Why is it not in the poll? Also shouldnt you add safari as most mac users use that. Opera is pretty good, Safari isnt too bad but i wouldnt want to use it all the time. Firefox is my prefered choice because its easy to use and portable IE is awful id never use it unless i had too.
Number 6 Posted 22 January 2008 Posted 22 January 2008 Firefox, although I also have the IE tab extension, just in case. It's a shame the version of Firefox I have doesn't support the 'Stop...Hammertime' feature
