All Quiet on the Transfer Front

Recommended Posts

With there only being about a week left of the transfer window, clubs all around us seem to be picking up players.

It has been fairly quiet in Leicester's camp the past week or so, apart from the obvious players who have left us that were deemed surplus to requirements and the Osbourne deal going sour.

I know theres still a week left like i said, but im slowly growing concerned about new faces coming in.

Anyone else feeling that way or is it just me?

Theres been plenty of rumours but none worth mentioning!

I feel the same.

When we sent our backup wingers out on loan (Hayes & Gradel) I thought we would have more wide players coming in, which I hope we still manage. Also concerned that the leftback position haven't been addressed, as I still believe Mattock is a bit to young to cover the position alone.

the transfer market looks a bit gridlocked at the moment- everyone waiting to find replacements for players they want to sell/replace-once a piece of the jigsaw falls into place clubs will be in funds and players will start to move again no doubt there will be the usual unseemly rush at 11.59 pm on transfer deadline day - mind you didn't MON pick up Izzet under similar circumstances ? !

This isnt Football Manager 2008!! A week without a deal isnt so bad!

We have been lucky with the amount of deals we have done since the summer and although many deals have failed, again we are buying new players this window and loaning some classy players.

I know Ollie wants more but I would not be unhappy to keep the current squad and get some solidity to them by playing as a unit and maybe punting out MDV, Elvis, Kenton and Kish and relying on Fryatt, Chambers, King and some of the other now fringe players to step in and make an impact.

We have enough at the moment to stay up. It's hard to criticise aiming high but all this talk of the play-offs is very wide of the mark. If we finish top half I'll be delighted. We have some minor gaps in our squad but nothing desperate. Sheehan and Mattock have done alright this season. We probably need one more midfielder - ideally someone who could cover both flanks. Other than that, I'd rather we saved £2million for the summer than splash it on Norris at an overinflated price. Having said that, I'd still be really pleased if he did sign.

We brought in 14 players in the summer and it did us no good whatsoever. In fact it made us worse. There's no need for hysteria at the moment - we appear to have signed four or five players of real quality so let's be content for once. We've done more in the window than most clubs in the country.

I think we've done the best during this window, out of any club in the football league.

Oakley is a fantastic signing as is Howard. Both are PROVEN at this level.

The Hungarians sound as if they have a lot of promise.

Alnwick is a fantastic goalkeeper and one we should try to make it permanent IMO.

If Osbourne does come in, well, happy days.

We're only lacking cover. But to completely sort out a tragic squad and get one with quality in evry position and cover would be ridiculous. As the droyd says, what has been done is immense in my eyes.

Agreed, but we still need a left back.

Mattck will be awesome, and is some weeks.

capaldi or someone along those lines would be good.

Problem is, since Gunter has gone, he's been playing and playing well from what I gather.

Our best bet is David Vaughan from Real Sociedad who may well be seeking a move now Coleman has left.

Good point.

David Vaughan is a good player. just need a solid championship left back. dependable like clive clark looked like he was going to be.

I do believe that Ollie has done an amazing job in this window. The Oakley deal is properly the single best piece of business in this transfer window by any club.

I just think, that the reason to loan out Hayes and especially Gradel must be, that Ollie has planned for one or more wide men to arrive. Also Ollie indicated I few weeks back, that he was looking at bringing in an experienced leftback to help Mattock out, as there was to much pressure on our 17 year old wonder boy. I'm also convinced we have lost out of quite a few deals (Capaldi, Kavanagh, Martin and Sinclair springs to mind), so Ollie are looking.

But we are 11 days into a 16 day period of only 2 games, where a new squad could have done their 'microwave' pre-season and gotten the new faces integrated into the squad. Therefore ideally we would have signed the signings we wanted this window by now.

On I completely other note, I have absolutely no frickin idea, why we didn't sign some decent wide players, and a decent leftback in the summer.

I am not bothered that we havent signed anyone in the past few days i think Ollie should take his time and buy the right players :)

Agreed. Last summer's transfers were a testament to the fact that it's certainly quality we need and not quantity

Watford have bought Matt Sadler from Brum, could get Jordan Stewart back?

that would mean ollie would have to choose between sheehan, mattock and stewart.

hes a bit stupid if he buys Jordan Stewart

Got to say i'd play stewart.

No.....I think this is moving backwards. Stewart is one of the most frustrating players I have seen. So inconsistent.

Got enough pace, can beat his man but when required to put in a decent cross it never comes. Not a bad wing back who can defend though, but for me we should be looking for someone a bit more steadier defensively. Otherwise better off Mattock being bloodied for a full season.

I'm talking about playing him left back, been very solid there for watford for 3 seasons.
