placidcasual Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 This should be a good chance for the Under 19's to get some experience against international competition. The Dallas cup has been around since 1980. IIRC the games are played at FC Dallas stadium and usually draw a good crowd. http://www.dallascup.com/home/218376.html Andrómeda SC (USA); Benfica (Portugal); CD Guadalajara [Chivas] (Mexico); CF Monterrey (Mexico); Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany); Leicester City FC (England); Liverpool FC (England); Ryutsu Keizai FC (Japan); Sao Paulo FC (Brazil); Slavija FK (Bosnia/Herzegovina); Tigres (Mexico); Whitecaps FC (Canada) “We are delighted that so many top boys youth teams from around the world of soccer, will be competing in our tournament next March, giving the players the very best competition and allow the Dallas soccer fans the opportunity to see the very best youth soccer and potential soccer stars of the future”, Dallas Cup executive director, Gordon Jago stated. There are a number of new teams competing for the first time in the Super Group (U19) division, including: * Andromeda SC - 2007 USYS National Boys Champions * Leicester City - 2007 Premier League Champions * Ryutsu Keizai FC - 2007 Prince Takamodo Cup Champions * Liverpool FC - popular British club owned by Dallas businessman Tom Hicks, Jr., and George Gillett (Liverpool’s first team won the FA Cup in 2006) * Slavija FK - from Sarajevo , host city of the 1984 Olympic Winter Games * Whitecaps FC - part of the developmental system for the Vancouver Whitecaps USL 1st Division team
davieG Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 * Leicester City - 2007 Premier League Champions - If only! * * Liverpool FC - popular British club owned by Dallas businessman Tom Hicks, Jr., and George Gillett (Liverpool’s first team won the FA Cup in 2006) I wonder how they managed to get in on it.
DB11 Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 * Leicester City - 2007 Premier League Champions - If only!I wonder how they managed to get in on it. Doesn't it mean the youth team / league?
placidcasual Posted 23 January 2008 Author Posted 23 January 2008 Doesn't it mean the youth team / league? Do you think?
Fox You Forest Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Doesn't it mean the youth team / league? Have a quite word with yourself in the corner.
Bert Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Surely we'll take Mattock to this. Is Kingy eligable for this too?

Anyone fancy flying out to supprt the boys
sdb Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 dunno why we didn't keep rob kelly or worthington after their efforts last season. win the premiership and they're still handed their p45's. disgrace
Staf Posted 23 January 2008 Posted 23 January 2008 Looks like a good tournament i expect us to win it

Ric Flair Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 Good opportunity for us to smuggle a few Brazilians back for the youth team.
Dames Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 Good opportunity for us to smuggle a few Brazilians back for the youth team. Bring them back in a potato van and rendezvous with them at Walkers Crisps

Dallas is en route to my son's fiance in Albuquerque, New Mexico so he's fairly keen too.

MPH Posted 24 January 2008 Posted 24 January 2008 Fantastic! I love the idea of this. Take a few of the lads from last year who got given professional contracts ( after all it was them that won it and most will still qualify for this tournament) and we could well give ourselves a good showing. Meanwhile we need to all bombard Sky to get them to televise it. If not, i imagine Sopcast will get a few of the games.

Someone mentioned to me after the Sunderland final that it was basically this season's team that's going, though I'd stand correcting. Mattock would probably qualify because he's played in the FA Youth Cup recently but not Andy King, Max Gradel, Eric Odhiambo and so on. Even so, with Ryan Beswick back and the likes of Billy McKay, Billy Kee, Ashley Chambers, Jorrin John and Lee Cox I'm sure we can do ourselves justice. Does anyone know how you go about getting tickets at this end?

Thanks for that, sounds an excellent deal. Add on a sensible flight offer, borrow my son's fiance's family Winnebago and it's all starting to look like a promising prospect.
