Uncle Albert Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Top clubs consider overseas games The English Premier League is considering playing some matches overseas, BBC Sport has learned. At a meeting in London on Thursday, all 20 clubs agreed to explore a proposal to extend the season to 39 games. Those 10 extra games would be played at venues around the world, with cities bidding for the right to stage them. It is understood the additional fixtures could be determined by a draw but that the top-five teams could be seeded to avoid playing each other. It is unlikely that any decision will be taken before the Premier League's annual summer meeting in June. Should the proposal get the go-ahead, cities in Asia, Middle East and North America are likely to show a strong interest in hosting the extra games. BBC Sport believes there would be five venues, with two games - on a Saturday and Sunday - taking place at each one.
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I think it's a really good idea. It will make the the FA lots of money and make the richiest clubs in England even richer! fantastic.
Flexx Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Absolutely sh it! We all love English football, so let's just keep it in our country yeah? Europe get's to see our top clubs in Champions League and Uefa Cup games, and Asia and America can wait for pre season game's. If they want to watch it so much, then why can't they just come over to England and make a weekend out of it.
davieG Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Good idea we need more games the season isn't long enough or fulfilling enough at the moment.

No sir, this be aimed at Asia North Americe etc etc. There be money out there, money and arm chair fans.
Tommy G Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Money Money Money Money Money You get my drift..

Manwell Pablo Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Exactly what quite a few clubs now do in Pre-Season. What a stupid suggestion this is. Oh it aint just a suggestion, they'll do it, When the NFL came to Wembley I didn't think it would be long until the FA thought......"Hold on a minute"
lildave3 Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Oh it aint just a suggestion, they'll do it, When the NFL came to Wembley I didn't think it would be long until the FA thought......"Hold on a minute" I really hope the fans of those clubs kick up too much of a fuss and cause them to reconsider. A plus point could be a weekend in America though
Maybes Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Oh it aint just a suggestion, they'll do it, When the NFL came to Wembley I didn't think it would be long until the FA thought......"Hold on a minute" I actually hated that I mean how can you play American "Football" on in the UK. Its just plain wrong.
lildave3 Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 How much of it is actually played using the foot? Not much surely.
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I really hope the fans of those clubs kick up too much of a fuss and cause them to reconsider. A plus point could be a weekend in America though ..........Or the Middle East
Maybes Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 How much of it is actually played using the foot? Not much surely. Yeah I never understood, why they call it football. Technically its rugby.
lildave3 Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 ..........Or the Middle East More importantly, there is no 'L' in Afonso (of the Alves nature) is there? Tell that to Sky Sports. This is going to annoy me more than Rozenhal being said with a 'T' <_<
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Yeah I never understood, why they call it football. Technically its rugby. Well techincally it's nothing like either of them. They should call it just of called it something American, Like MEGA BALL!

LeeCovFox Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Greedy B@stards. The thing is, apparently, if agreed to, which it will be, it comes into effect for the 2010/2011 season. We are aiming to be in the top flight by that point. This could very much effect us, or clubs similar to ourselves, so right now this is not exclusively a Premier League issue. Fvcking disgusting, but entirely predictable.
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I would actually not think too badly of this idea if they intended to filter a decent amount of money down to the football league, but of course they wont.
Bryn Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Yeah I never understood, why they call it football. Technically its rugby. ... Rugby football you mean? At least they actually use their feet a bit in Rugby football. In American football they only really use it for the occasional punt and field goals.
Staf Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 My grandad will be so angry when he hears this he always tells me that football is all about money these days and this proves again he is right it is the english premier league lets keep it that way we have the Champions league that enough
Simi Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 This post has being brewing since I read the article earlier on at college. Absolutely appalling and sickening. This quote made me want to just kick the bloke who said it in the balls. "Some fans may feel aggrieved, but their concerns will be outweighed in the eyes of the clubs by the financial advantages. Disgusting. If we're in the Prem when this idea happens I'll be done with home matches and any sort of income for our club. Thanks Eggert. Thanks Glazers. Thanks NFL. The game is yours.
