Frenzied Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 The idea is an absolute disgrace. To take games away from fans that have followed (and paid for) their team all their lives, season in season out, is appalling. This is simply for the commercial gain of the "super investors" (mainly septic tanks) in clubs. Furthermore this could only be the tip of the iceberg. We've already had the disgraceful MK Dons/ Wimbledon situation; if this new idea happens, how long before Manure or Chelski up sticks and move abroad, to where the revenues are greater.
Daggers Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Just now on 5live, by way of a rebuttal that this move is nothing more than clubs being greedy: "...but what (our Tottenham) supporters here need to understand is that we have many supporters abroad that do not get the opportunity to watch the team play." Ahhhh - and there was me thinking the club chairmen were just being a bunch of asswiping ****heads when they were acting in the interests of fans worldwide all along. Christ I'm stupid!
LeeCovFox Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I've always been dead set against the idea of the bigger clubs becoming part of a European Super League. My feeling now is they can just fvck off.
davieG Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I've always been dead set against the idea of the bigger clubs becoming part of a European Super League. My feeling now is they can just fvck off. Trouble is the the 'mark' Premier League has more value to it than any so called super league and the more they push it and the more succesful/remunrative it is the less liely they are to break away.
Simi Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Gold Praises Premier League Birmingham co-owner David Gold says the Premier League should be praised for its proposal to take matches overseas."We are making history," he told BBC Sport. "The Premier League, which is the greatest league the world has ever known, is being adventurous. "It is looking forward and is looking to take an English brand global. The idea is very worthy of consideration. I find this amazingly exciting.
Joe. Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Terrible idea. Just shows the state of football these days. It's just all about the money now.
Daggers Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Gold Praises Premier League What does that cnut care? He's been trying to flog his interest for a fat profit for a season and a half now...he only cares about making his return larger. I hope the ****ers get relegated, that'll screw him over, the seedy little runt.

It's the way of the world I'm afraid and there's nothing we can do about it.

That's not the point mate - buying the club to sell the club is one thing...it's having to listen to the porn-midget on the news spouting forth about how this is brilliant for the game that I take issue with. It's the fact that he is complicit in screwing us all over to get to his end goal and the knowledge that not one Premier league fan will do anything to stop it that sickens me. Fans not attending matches will stop it dead - but do any of the PL tourists care? Do they ****.

Do they ****. Nails been well and truly hit there Daggers. I was reading this on SUSD earlier... If they tried to do the same in Germany, all their fans would stand together and threaten to boycott all games. All over the country. They did exactly the same in the early 90's when all-seater stadia were introduced. Stood firm and threatened to boycott all games if all seater stadia were brought in. Their FA refused to implement the all seater rule, and they now have the highest attendances in Europe and the cheapest match tickets and large safe standing areas with awesome atmospheres. The difference in culture is huge. For every fan that boycotts a Premier League match, there are 10 day trippers waiting to take that seat. People in England haven't the desire to change things.
Guest Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Are we talking about exporting one of leagues in Europe which, in all fairness, isn't even the best when pitted against clubs from other nations? With a national team that deservedly failed to qualify for the European Championships this summer? I think the marketing men will have to work on this one a bit... As an aside, the whole thing sickens me. I feel like I've been shat on from a great height, and it wasn't very pleasant.
Bluemoon Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 This is obviously why profiteering Americans have been buying in to Premiership clubs. Probably a done deal within 3 years ......global profits. Where does it leave small clubs like us.

AyewJoking Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 I assume these 10 fixtures will be Arsenal vs Man Utd, Chelsea vs Liverpool etc. No country is gonna bid for Wigan vs Reading, maybe Bosnia. Take the game away from the fans who, without there support over the decades, these teams wouldnt be here today.

No. Surprisingly the top four will be seeded so they don't play each other  So a relegation match could be decided by Derby playing Man U. Then Fulham playing Bolton or something.

So if Derby have a long, hard season battling against relegation and they are in 17th on goal difference after 38 games, they will be rewarded with a certain death match against Man Utd? Must admit, I'd fly to Cambodia to see that
act smiley Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 Are we talking about exporting one of leagues in Europe which, in all fairness, isn't even the best when pitted against clubs from other nations? With a national team that deservedly failed to qualify for the European Championships this summer?I think the marketing men will have to work on this one a bit... They already have, haven't you seen Sky recently - best league in the world best fans blah blah blah? That's what they get spoonfed in America and Asia, too. And thanks to a large proportion of Americans not being near an MLS team (to be honest I don't know why they believe it in Asia), they believe it and get sucked up in the gloryhunting. Reading a soccer forum with a section for MLS and a section for the Premiership, there's MLS fans who either have a hilarious hate for anything to do with the Premiership as a reaction or have a huge inferiority complex, while twice as many gloryhunters sit around mocking them while wanking over their dreams of being a manc or a scouser, its a truly bizarre spectacle. My only hope for this one is that every team can get a large number of fans, from the Conference to the Premiership, to protest as one. Its only if the core fans of every team can be shown to be in big enough numbers to cost them beyond what they'll get that they'll give up - and that means taking literally thousands of fans, even a hundred thousand, before they'll take notice. I was hoping for a collapse of football in its present state ending in a peaceful return towards a more traditional form, instead it looks like it'll be a violent explosion then having to glue the remains together.
Raj Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 This shit just about sums up the w@nkers at Premier League(and FA,im sure they have an input too!..if they dont, they are still big w@nkers anyway!) who cares anyway,we aint gonna ever be in that situation are we???

Well said that man. Its a joke. We dont need this crap as our football may not be the best technically but its the most watched league in the world so why prat about and extent it, taking it away from its real fans? BTW they said no to foreign refs a while back and now this is seen as a possibility? CLUELESS
Mikey Posted 7 February 2008 Posted 7 February 2008 A load of bollocks! The English leagues should be played in England surely ?
