The People's Hero Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 I want broadband/SkyTV etc and was all set to put together a wee package when I realise I don't have a phoneline. Sky stipulate they want an existing BT one which I don't have. I don't want to pay BT £125 for a line - I don't even own the sodding flat. I try Virginmedia (grudgingly) *spit* - and I'm not even in a cable area (but Maidstone is like the hub of the universe.. maaaaan) - so again I'd need a sodding phoneline. Is there anyway round this? That is to say, are there any cowboy outfits who will put me a line in which Sky can use for less than £125? Thankyou Please Thankyou.
Phube Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 This was a topic a few months ago... I think you're officially buggered!
Bellend Sebastian Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 All I know is that someone I knew that had normal (i.e. not Sky Plus) installed about a year ago and although they tried to make him connect it to a BT line, when he kicked up a fuss they relented. With this in mind, I tried something similar when I upgraded to Sky Plus recently (I'd disconnected my original digibox from the phoneline years ago) but they just wouldn't have it, so I had to plug it into the 'phone line. The bloke who fitted it said they would sometimes turn a blind eye to people not connecting ordinary digiboxes to a phone line, but with Sky Plus they always insisted on it

I'm not paying BT £125. BT are wan kers anyway. As are Virgin Media. Sky should sort out their own phone infrastructure so I can do it all through them. I bet it turns out they're all a bunch of wan kers too.
AoWW Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Can you not hassle your landlord into putting a phone line in? It's his property, after all, and I would have thought a phone line is generally seen as a prerequisite by many tenants. Might be worth having a word. Even a 50/50 split would be better than nothing.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Buy a phone? You are so stupid. You really are, like really stupid, even for 15, in fact you probabley are the thickest 15 year old I have ever come across. Sometimes I actually wonder if you are being so stupid on purpose.

hairy Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 You only need it for a moment when they first connect you. Cant you extend the neighbours line?
The People's Hero Posted 11 February 2008 Author Posted 11 February 2008 You only need it for a moment when they first connect you. Cant you extend the neighbours line? This isn't true for broadband though is it? Don't they need to run it through the BT line?
danny. Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 dunno if it's the same on residential, but if you get a contract with BT Business they will waive the installation cost - and if you move premises you can take the contract with your, might be worth asking about? Not sure what the minimum is, think we are in 5 years but think you can get 2 years also.

You would need a line to run broadband, as that's what the broadban uses - a phone line. You could try asking your neighbours if you could share their connection if they already have a phone line and BB (use wifi) and pay them like £10 a month or something?

I spent (not personally) quite a bit of money with them for the business lines here so it would be nice if they would scratch my back for a change. On the downside, they are a bunch of useless tossers.
