I think it's about we had another World War, that will get everyone to focus on something else.

Seriously though, the world we live in now, by and large is depressing. People can say what they like about, you make your own choices and if you're unhappy with something change it.

I'm not particularly unhappy with my life and I would change things if I ever got that unhappy. But as Fez has said, collectively, the world and certainly the country we live in, is an absolute farce. To really appreciate anything in life these days, usually only happens when something real happens. Something you can't put a price on, something natural.

For every thousand 35 yard screamers you score on PES, for every dozen new pair of trainers, for every new phone, etc the feeling of appreciation and contentess soon wears off. But the things that really have a positive effect on our lives are so lost amongst this world that it's very rare any of us really experience them and therefore we aren't ever going to live our lives to our full potential, whether Tommy G believes so or not.

There's no way out, other than from inside your mind that doesn't take in to account the falseties of the world we now live in. The sad thing is, that's being taken away from us now as well. We're being controlled every second of every day.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, None but ourselves can free our minds.

Hypnotise me happy!

Stop thinking so grandly and out of the box and stuff.

You need to become institutionalised then you will learn to appreciate the finer things about offices and as such learn to accept your place in society as a corporate whore known only by a number (if you're lucky it will be alpha-numeric):

- the fit girl that everyone fancies but no one has a chance of getting anywhere near

- the funny nicknames that people get given without them knowing

- breakfast

- lunch

- general backstabbing

- the idiots who think they're something when really they're not

There's plenty more but they should keep you going for a bit.

That is what it's all about!!!

Although in our office we dont have the fit girl anymore... just 5 lads.... Shit!!! :(

We make the boss hire fit girls and make the references better than they are to seal the deal.

Offices are great if you got the right people around you or it can be absolutely shit.

Makeing injokes about other staff members sneaking out for an hour to get in a few beers, Talking bollocks about eachothers weekends and sports results. Offices are heaps better than working in the outdoors either freezeing cold or boiling hot quite often on your own with an 8 hour day seeming like 16 hours. Alot of my mates are all tradeies and hate it constantly suffering thru numerous injuries they have picked up and that.

Totally agree with that.

Either you or your colleagues just don't fit together. Or maybe it's an age question that makes you appreciate and accept other people and their opinions more as you gain more experience with time.

I also agree with the "safer working environment" point, although I must add that working in an office can make you easily bored, slow, idle, degrade your motivation and even turn you into a dumbster if you can't bring in your proper skills, if you're under-challenged or when all you do is performing the same action every single day, thus turning a human being into a machine.

If that's the case, move on and do something you're really interested in. Challenge yourself on a regular basis, go and see something of this world, meet other people in foreign/previously unknown environments, make friends, have a laugh. Or two. Or more.

That's "personal growth" for me in a nutshell.

But I do acknowledge the fact that there will always be people preferring to live under the same circumstances for decades or even longer, either because they're so used to it or because they're afraid of taking a risk or simply because they can't/don't want to afford it. Or maybe they've been told "No" too often.

I say:

We only have one life*, so let's use it.

*Maybe TPH has a few more - Street Fighter II-style, like

I'm with Fezzle on this. I was thinking the same the other day as I was strolling through bradgate park. Something inside of me wanted to get a bow and arrow, run through the forest after the dear and fire up a spit roast.

We're all just a number now. I admire people who just go and travel for their whole lives to see the world... not getting drawn into the rat race. Constantly working harder, trying to earn more to pay the ever increasing bills. Just scraping by while your bosses reap all the rewards.

Yeah you'd be lucky to see 40, but life sounds much more simplistic and real back when people were farmers, cobblers, blacksmiths etc etc.

Chopper never worked in no office, he had the right idea.
