Thracian Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 But that's what basically happened this morning when a huge gust of wind got under my bonnet catch and lifted the bonnet with such force it was forced flat against my windscreen Doing 70mph on the M1 with artics pounding the tarmac behind you is not the place to try driving blind and, with the road packed, it struck me straight away what a catastrophe there'd be if the much twisted bonnet severed completely and hurtled off down the motorway behind me. Fortunately I was in the inside lane preparing to turn off but a quick flick of the hazard light and a gentle glide to a halt on the hard shoulder leaves you with three particular feelings... You're glad you're still in one piece, you're mightily relieved that you've not caused havoc and you don't half feel a prat sitting in a car with the windscreen obscured by a blue metal bonnet. Fortunately I always carry elastic and ordinary rope and so I was fairly soon on my way again - but well realising the lesson of the day that you should never take life for granted.
Daggers Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 ...but well realising the lesson of the day that you should never take life for granted. I never take my life for granted - but I do live in fear of idiots not shutting their bonnets properly before joining motorways.
Zingari Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 pretty scary thracian ; i've not had that happen to me but i have had a shattered windscreen and that is quite hair raising Saabs used to have the right idea ; their bonnets used to open outwards from the windscreen not as in most cars up from the front I think since GM took them over they have become conventional now

You're glad you're still in one piece, you just as glad you've not caused havoc and you don't half feel a prat sitting in a car with the windscreen obscured by a blue metal bonnet. Fortunately I always carry elastic and ordinary rope and so I was fairly soon on my way again - but well realising the lesson of the day that you should never take life for granted. I never had you down as a bungee jumper.
Daggers Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 I never had you down as a bungee jumper. He could just be one big kinky bugger
Floating Fox Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 He could just be one big kinky bugger Thats way, way beyond the line.

Thracian Posted 22 February 2008 Author Posted 22 February 2008 I never had you down as a bungee jumper. Do they make rope that strong?
AoWW Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 I thought, Thracian, this thread was going to to about you taking your daily constitutional along the motorway bizarrely attired in some fancy easter hat with a big, ribbon bow under your chin. Oh, the imagery!

Oh, the imagery! I thought exactly the same thing. Incidentally, driving to Leicester once when the gritters had been out, with NO screen wash was a bad idea too! Haha! Glad you were safe anyway Thrac - I'd have been terrified.

City Fan Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Incidentally, driving to Leicester once when the gritters had been out, with NO screen wash was a bad idea too! I did that yesterday! Had no screen wash left so everytime I had to stop in traffic, I opened the window and squirted a bottle of water at the windscreen and then wiped it - kept getting white shit on the windscreen every few mins.
Thracian Posted 22 February 2008 Author Posted 22 February 2008 Thanks DavieG - that Photobucket has a lot to answer for.

davieG Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Thanks DavieG - that Photobucket has a lot to answer for. It's a pleasure. Glad you're ok, it happen to me once only I was driving an Austin A45 van which struggled to get over 30mph and if it could have gone faster more than the bonnet would have flown off.
Daggers Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 I hope you don't draw such inaccurate conclusions in your work. So do I - as a part-time supersonic test pilot and full-time gay porn star, inaccurate conclusions on my part could threaten the very fabric of space and time.
