Wuda took a point b4 the game. But think we lost the plot in 2nd half. Levin see's a different game sometimes i think. But then he's paid to judge how n when he subs. Jordy looked secure when he came on hope he recovers quick. Well done lads and the fans who went down.................

Steven Hughes was outstanding today, great passing and saved us right at the death clearing that ball off the line. Thought we played some great football in first half but second half we did nothing.

Poor Jordan :(

Wow, what a game - and a great result in hindsight.

Firstly we were EXCELLENT for the 1st 30 minutes, superb football mainly involving Hughes (although I thought he was v v poor 2nd half) and Connolly. I can't believe the ref didn't send Bywater off, it wasn't the usual scenario of attacking player knocks it too far - Hughes had cushioned it past the keeper and would have scored.

Second half we got absolutely battered, I think the games finally caught up with the lads. Personally I think we should have tried to close the game down and play how we did at Blackburn but it remained an open (but generally 1 way traffic) game. Thought Paddy was absolutely superb - even though as a unit we looked shaky, individually he was brilliant.

Also credit to West Ham, they came out and gave a performance for their under fire manager, which was full of pace, passion and quality. That's why I think a draw was a great result tonight, I cant think the Hammers have played any better this season.

Also, looked like Jordan dislocated his elbow to me. Looked nasty.

I don't care what Chandler and et al think that was a bloody good perofrmance, it wasn't particularly special in terms of quality, apart from Gillespie's goal, but those players dug deep you could tell that most of them were absolutely shagged out after 3 games in six days and to then have to hold on with ten men was a great credit to the commitment CL is trying to instil.

Well done lads, a very creditable hard fought performance.

Apparently Jord has dislocated his shoulder again - he looked pretty resigned to it when he was walking off the pitch - poor lad!

im sorry katy bywater should be playing.. i am a ref and the law states to send a player off he comes be deniying an obvios goal scoring opportunity by fouling an oppenent moving towards goal to get a red card  so the ref was right to only books him.

By the way L1boy you may be a ref but it doesn't make you always right,

I think in this case it was more 50/50 as Hughes was still in control of the ball and taking it around the goalkeeper, he would have to have gone left or right, are you saying it would only be a sending off if he'd have gone right i.e towards the goal, I agree with Martyn

I can't believe the ref didn't send Bywater off, it wasn't the usual scenario of attacking player knocks it too far - Hughes had cushioned it past the keeper and would have scored.
, but then that is our my opinion.

I'd like you to find the rule where a player 'has to be moving towards goal' and not 'denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.'

If you find it, fair play.

Yep - could be career threatening when that keeps happening.

Bywater was clearly the last man and took Hughes out, the rules state that's a red card, unfortunately from our point of view the ref had common sense and just gave a yellow. The rules really have to be changed to stop this grey area though.

I thought he was poor on the Dabizas decision, no hesistation in sending him off i mean, because Paddy (who i thought had a great game btw) was on the line covering, so again, penalty and yellow card is enough.

To be honest the point was the most we deserved, we started the second half too slowly and were quite poor there really, though i think had Bywater been sent off we'd have gone on to win. It's a good point nonetheless, away at a side pushing for the play offs.

Our second half performance reminded me of how we approached the Blackburn game :(

the problem with us this season has been, we have been more than a match for any side in the division all season but most of the times we failed take our chances and win. IMO

Well given that we ended the game with 9 men I think that was a great point for us. I rode our luck there at the end of the second half. In the first half we were absolutely fantastic all over ... until they equalised to make it 1-1. They started to take control then obviously there was Gillespie's excellent volley before half time. In that second half as soon as they made it 2-2 you could tell we were playing for the point =/ we never looked like scoring that second half. Jordan Stewart looked good when he came on, I had nightmare flashback of a Rob Ullathorne type injury coming on there. Apparently he has dislocated his shoulder again (?). I thought Conolly was fantastic while he was on the pitch, as was Stephen Hughes all game. I dont think Maybury had his greatest game today, same can probably be said for Tiatto. I did think we might have been defending a bit far up the park in that game aswell, we always looked a bit iffy when they hit us on the break especially. IMO a valuable point which we were a bit lucky to get... =/

"denying an obvious oppurtunity on an oponent moving towards goal" is the law for a red card in that scenario.. so u make ur minds up,

can i just say that nowhere in the laws does it say anything about last man.. its just denying an obvious goal scoring opurtunity

Posted
i c wot your saying but the law says he must be moving towards goal to get a red card so i dunno u raised a point as he had to go 1 way arund him.

I'm not denying the rule see 5) below it's the interpretation of moving towards the goal. I believe that Hughes was moving towards the goal albeit around the goalkeeper, but I cannot say that either you or I are right or wrong it's subjective.

From a subjective standpoint you could argue that Dabizas should not have been sent off, see 4) below as he did not on his own deny a goal as McCarthy was behind him and could well have stopped the ball going in.

In my opinion he was soft on Bywater and harsh on Dabizas but then I'm biased. ;)

Sending-off offences

A player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the following seven offences:

1. is guilty of serious foul play

2. is guilty of violent conduct

3. spits at an opponent or any other person

4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)

5. denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick

6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures

7. receives a second caution in the same match

All in All a good result, Poor Jordan, I'm a big fan of his, looks like he'll miss the remainder of the season if it is as bad as it looked, on the flip side Wilcox is back in contention and should take his place on the bench! I thought Dabizas should have stayed on if the ref can give a yellow to one man for denying a goal and not the other :S and besides I think Paddy had it covered! Now we've got 2 weeks off to re-group and hopefully we can come back strong at home to the wankers *ahem* I mean Millwall! Hughes was ace tonight I'd like to see him start then too!

I was working, so I didn't get the chance to watch the game until the last 10 minutes on TV. It's a credible point on reflection, I'm just disappointed to hear that we conceded the lead twice through sloppy goals.

We've just got to hope results go for us tomorrow now...

Sloppy goals? Their first one wouldn't have looked out of place in the Premiership!

Poor defending at the back post, allowing Sherringham too much space to head in.
