The Office (rubbish US version)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone watch the US version of the Office? I've been watching it recently and I must say that it is hilarious, just as funny as the British version. The comedy between Dwight (Gareth's character) and Jim (Tim's character) is top class! I wasn't quite sure whether it would work but it definitely does.

Ive never seen the American or English version.

I may give the American one a go though, but i cant watch the English version because i just cant stand Ricky Gervais!

I guess it depends on what you think of Steve Carell, cos a large part of it is him. In the American version the relationship between the receptionist Pam and Jim is brilliant!

The English version is probably my most favourite programme of all time, having said that I do like the American one too, I think Brents Character (Evan Almighty guy) is properly funny...

I didn't really like it, but I love the english one, it is probably my favourite ever comedy.

Me too, followed closely by Alan Partridge and Peep Show.... What a great stay in TV lineup that would make

Definately love Partridge and Peep show, but The Office just edges it, with all the quotes etc. Always notice something different when watching The Office too like Brent's manerisms. :crylaugh:

I think my fave quote from the Office would be when Brent has just had a discussion with Neil from the Swindon branch and he comes out of the meeting and says that they have had a massive argument over Slough vs. Swindon teams and he says....

'Ooooh you should have seen me, I was like ''your Swindon lot are like little slugs, little slugs with no personality and your just jealous that we're better at everything than you....'' '

Yeah haha love that.

One of my favourite parts has to be when Brent gets fired and he stands up wearing that Ostrich costume.

Watched a few of the American episodes and I didn't like them but never really gave it a chance anyway.

I don't know why they couldn't just show the English version over their?!

You don't see us remaking any of their sitcoms, as I said I have only saw the odd episode and not gave it chance but the epidoses I did see ruined it.

They've far from ruined it. In fact Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant helped to write some of the episodes for the US version.

Yeah I know Ricky and Stephen (:worship:) wrote some of it, maybe the acting, maybe the american humour (Although it's trying to be similar to the "dry wit" in our version its just not the same) I dunno i'm just not a huge fan of it, give me the original version anyday!

I like the American one, it's funny in it's own way but i do feel as though it's a very 'dummed down' version of the original. Much louder comedy if you know what i mean, where as the original is very subtle, dry, British comedy. The genius of The Office is how realistic it is, and how it's just like a real office, and a real documentary, this is part of what makes it so hilarious. The American one just takes that element away from it, is just so obviously a sit com. I think this is down to the acting and the characters. The actors from The Office are much better, they make it seem so real, where as the actors in the American version make it seem so obviously rehearsed. Tim and Gareth are so so so so so so so SO SO SO much better than Dwight and Jim!!!!! Dwight is terrible!!

As i said i like the American version but it is crap in comparison. The Office is one of the best comedies of all time, the American one is really just another, quite funny American comedy, and you just shouldn't compare them.

PS, Don't refer to The Office as 'The British VERSION' it's not a version, it's the original lol^_^

Decided to watch one the other week it was pretty bad, it had lost everything that made the original great.

Like a short run and a finite story line.

As with all American sitcoms, they drag it out as long as humanly possible, recycling material every half-season (for a season is 20-odd episodes, rather than 6-10 as you'd typically find in the UK). It's more of a drama than a comedy... I notice that here in Canada it's followed mostly by women who lust after Jim, and the comments that tend to emanate from such viewers tend to revolve around the situation surrounding Jim/Pam almost as if it was a drama, rather than the comedy caused by the idiot boss and the tension between certain employees.

In fact, I rarely note anybody commenting on how funny an episode was... there's not many comedy series that evoke responses like "aww that was so cute/sad".

 Vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvom. Hwwwwuuuuurrgggh.

Speaking of it, I finally got to see the two Christmas Specials on DVD the other night.

Brilliant ending, the way it had to be.

There's even a German copy with the same concept, called "Stromberg".

I'm not sure whether I'll ever find the proper motivation to watch any of the American episodes.

Too many times, TV series and movie remakes failed to emulate the creativity that made the original so outstanding.

The American one is up to season 6 or something like that.

That is just stupid, The original ended pefectly whereas it is all about the money in the US

Four seasons so far... 59 episodes and counting. :S

Season one had six episodes; season two had 22; season three had 23 and season four was commissioned for 25 episodes. Total commissioned count: 76 episodes.

Compare to the UK... two series (6 episodes each) plus a two-part special three years later - total episode count 13.

As I said... it's more like a drama/soap now than it was in the UK.

To demonstrate just how commercial it all is on this side of the pond, there's even a bloody video game to go with the television program.

I've been watching them ever since I found a list of mp4 format ones for my iPod a few weeks back. I can't get enough of it, I think it's seriously one of the best shows on telly. Sure, it's not action packed and filled with adreniline but it's a good funny show that makes you think about stuff in ways you didn't before. The relationships and the ways the characters are presented is great and if you havn't watched it then you should, because you won't be dissapointed.
