Mike the Metal Ed Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 On a side note, the list before Collins John came from a letter in the Oct/Nov issue of The Fox Fanzine... signed by the one and only... Hossein Kaebi.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 This forum aint half boring. We'd better be at least half decent next year as we can do something besides moan about anything and everything and listen to Thracian bang on about kids and attacking approaches. It's been 3 years now and I'm fed up I've barely started, old boy. Aren't young people rude? Why is there so much litter? Mars Bars are so much smaller these days Dogs' hair is too long Why is there so much sport on the telly? Why do my actions have consequences? Why can I not do what I like when I like and it not cost me anything? What do these voices mean? Make them stop
MPH Posted 19 March 2008 Author Posted 19 March 2008 What I'm wondering is how many of the 100 ever deserved to wear a Leicester City shirt. I'd guess at about a quarter to a third. The only positive I can think of is that any aspiring young footballer watching our teams over that period and noting who has been selected should be certain in his mind that with the right effort and application he can carve out a lucrative career playing the game he loves. When I trained at City there was Banks, Shilton, MicLintock, King, Appleton, Davie Gibson, Howard Riley, Mike Stringfellow and a whole host of others. Think of what we've had in recent years. I won't name them out of kindness but they wouldn't have got near the training ground, let alone the team, in Gibbo's day. the other side of the coin is that any youngster been at City for the last 5 years and STILL not played for us must be REALLY in trouble for his career....
General Smuts Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Andrew Impey, Frank Sinclair, Gerry Taggart, Muzzy Izzet, Matt Jones, Lee Marshall, James Scowcroft, Callum Davidson, Alan Rogers, Ian Walker, Stef Oakes, Matt Elliott, Trevor Benjamin, Martin Reeves, Paul Dickov, Jordan Stewart, Matt Heath, Jon Stevenson, Junior Lewis, Brian Deane, Jon Ashton, Chris O'Grady, Billy McKinlay, Nicky Summerbee, Tommy Wright, Tim Flowers, Tomi Petrescu, Craig Hignett, Keith Gillespie, Lilian Nalis, Les Ferdinand, Paul Brooker, Steffen Freund, Danny Coyne, Ricardo Scimeca, Steve Howey, Steve Guppy, Peter Canero, John Curtis, Ben Thatcher, Nicolas Priet, Marcus Bent, Nikos Dabizas, Danny Tiatto, Martin Keown, Stephen Hughes, Dion Dublin, Chris Makin, Stefan Moore, Stuart Taylor, Kevin Harper, Darren Kenton, Scot Gemmill, Gareth Williams, Richard Stearman, David Connolly, Paddy McCarthy, Jason Wilcox, Joey Gudjonsson, Alan Maybury, Nathan Blake, Mark de Vries, Lee Morris, Kevin Pressman, Lars Hirschfeld, Rab Douglas, Patrick Kisnorbo, Momo Sylla, Iain Hume, Peter Gilbert, Matty Fryatt, Paul Henderson, Rufus Brevett, Nils-Eric Johansson, Elvis Hammond, Ryan Smith, Alan Shush!, Joe Hamill, Patrik Gerrbrand, Andy Welsh, James Wesolowski, Ashley Chambers, Mark Yeates, Geoff Horsfield, Andy Johnson, Gareth McAuley, Josh Low, Luigi Glombard, Shaun Newton, Jason Jarrett, Danny Cadamarteri, Conrad Logan, Levi Porter, Joe Mattock, Eric Odhiambo, James Chambers, Bruno N'Gotty, Stephen Clemence, Radostin Kishishev, Carl Cort, DJ Campbell, Hossein Kaebi, Jonathan Hayes, Marton Fulop, Clive Clarke, Andy King, Collins John, Barry Hayles, Steve Howard, Matt Oakley, Jamie Clapham, Ben Alnwick, Zsolt Laczko, Gabor Bori, Lee Hendrie, Kelvin Etuhu, Ricky Sappleton. Players in bold are the only ones id have let near a Leicester shirt. Other than that Jordan Stewart, Matt Heath, Brian Deane, Billy McKinlay, Keith Gillespie, Nikos Dabizas, Nils Eric Johansson, Alan Shush!, Danny Tiatto, Riccardo Scimeca, Steffen Freund, DJ and Darren Kenton would have made the tail end of the squad. EDIT: On the face of it a 43% 'success' rate.

lildave3 Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 I quite liked Thatcher, dirty, but decent defensively and he could take a set piece. I liked Thatcher and Scimeca for some reason.

Thracian Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 I quite liked Thatcher, dirty, but decent defensively and he could take a set piece. Just how I'd imagine your kind of player, MP! Think of the passion we'd have had with a team full of Thatchers and Tiattos. We could have won games by two falls, two submissions or a knockout. Pity about all these silly new rules with health and safety in mind.
General Smuts Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 I'd make the percentage a bit lower by omitting Laczko, Bori, Sappleton, Odhiambo, Ashley Chambers and Clive Clarke. Really? Thought you'd have loved that. In fits and starts the Hungarians have shown that they're assets to the current team. Sappleton is a legend so (Alan) Shush! And Clive Clarke was quality, solid but very unfortunate. Hed still be in the team now if it werent for his heart attack. Ben Thatcher should be in bold probably yeah.

I might have more faith in young players than many but that doesn't mean I want them in the team before they're good enough. Sappleton hardly played, like Clarke, and on the occasions I did see Sappleton play he looked a long way from first team standard, entertaining though he was. And I only saw Clarke briefly at Forest he just struck me as a conventional defensive left-back.

Thracian Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Get outta here you. As you're a big fan of the guy perhaps you'd tell me what's keeping him out of the game so long?
Joe. Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 As you're a big fan of the guy perhaps you'd tell me what's keeping him out of the game so long? He's just too good. Just read that Ricky Sappleton to Manchester United thread Thracian and you'll discover a whole new meaning to the words "Ricky Sappleton".
lildave3 Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 As you're a big fan of the guy perhaps you'd tell me what's keeping him out of the game so long? He's allowing other players to get closer to his ability. Before he returns and improves even more, and shits all over the world. Literally. Twice.
Daggers Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Ricky Sappleton is an anagram of Rectal Pinko Spy. I think that explains everything, Thracian.
General Smuts Posted 20 March 2008 Posted 20 March 2008 Ricky Sappleton is my hero. All together now ... You can be my hero Ricky! You can kiss kick away the pain! You can take my breath relegation away!

Clarke gave two decent performances against Palace and Watford, as good as we've seen from a left back in some time. But we'll never know whether he'd have been able to maintain that form over a longer period of time.
