purpleronnie Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 We have never won the league and we have never won the FA Cup and we have never done anything in Europe. We are an average club. Thats right. BTW I went to school with the singer of the young knives.
Narborough Bod Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 Even if there isn't such a clause there will be no shortage of desperate Championship managers waiting to snap them up at knock down prices, I'd imagine they are some of the highest paid players in this league - why else would Howard and Oakley come here and we know that McAuley has just signed a new 3.5 year contract that must be much nearer to N'Gotty's inflated one. IF we do go down, I don't know whether to panic that they'll all go and we start again, or be glad that the crap jumps ship and we get to start a fresh. (Obviously I won't be glad if we have been relegated though).
Narborough Bod Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 We have never won the league and we have never won the FA Cup and we have never done anything in Europe. We are an average club. Unfortunately there are a lot of blinkered views from those who have only supported us for 15 odd years. 7 trips to Wembley, 2 sojourns into Europe and plenty of decent performances against so called big clubs under O'Neill. Someone please post a link to the Pleat days and show how dire we can be.
Ryanside Posted 24 March 2008 Author Posted 24 March 2008 We have never won the league and we have never won the FA Cup and we have never done anything in Europe. We are an average club. On that basis would you say Newcastle werent a big club? The last time they won anything was in 1955, but yet they boast a huge fan base and can afford to spend £15m+ on strikers. They havent done diddly squat for ages but I would still say they are a big club

They havent done diddly squat for ages but I would still say they are a big club I don't want to get into an argument about this. It's a completely redundant topic. It's a completely stupid discussion that seems to mainly happen between plastic fans of the big four or their closest rivals. I just find it amazing how ignorant some of our fans are (In the past 12 months I've heard our fans sing "you've never won f**k all" to both Wolves and Cardiff while someone on here the other day said we were a bigger club than Sheffield Wednesday). Either way, we're clinging onto one rather tenuous association with being a big club and that might well be gone within a couple of months too. My main argument is this - if another team's fans cited a few League Cup wins and the fact they've never been relegated beyond this division as the two main reasons for them being a big club whereas we had actually won something, we'd laugh in their faces. I'd rather concentrate on our games cos this place has been more of a laughing stock than a big club for the past few years and we could learn some humility from the so-called smaller clubs higher up the league.

joely22 Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 40 teams?! 40 teams! you serious! 40?liverpool man utd newcastle utd everton arsenal sunderland aston villa tottenham chelsea west ham man city derby leeds utd forest (only just - cus of the european cup) don't think anyone else is bigger than us. you need to look at it in terms of fan base and history and i don't think many teams beat us on that.
Flynny Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 Go on then, rub it in Derby are a bigger club than us, but only a shade I'd say. We're really very similar in a lot of ways, but with Derby having achieved more.

We're really very similar in a lot of ways, but with Derby having achieved more. No no, not going to rub it in, was just saying that we are. Was an angry reaction to us not being in the list that was posted before with Leeds and Florist above us!!

Oh right, I thought it was already there and you'd bolded it. I'd put Forest level pegging with you personally.
lookwhaticando Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 I'd put Forest level pegging with you personally. Now now... play nice.
Thracian Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 We're a big club, With a big house, And acres and acres of ground, Yes we're a big club, With a big, big house, If only some players could be found!
The Stig Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 Barry Hayles is bigger than us. Considerably bigger.
Asha Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 We're a big club in terms of prestige, history and in terms of facilities.
Mr Happy Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I don't see the relevance? I simply don't care whether or not anyone considers my club to be "big" or not.All I care about is that my team doesn't care about itself, that we stumble from crisis to crisis and no one from Mandaric down seems to have the first idea how to arrest this decline. I don't want to get into an argument about this. Bravo to both of these statements! Most city fans really need to get over what happened in the O'Neill years because we're currantly up sh*t creek right now and guess what? Yes we havent got a paddle to get ourselves out of it unless we forget bygone eras and start to focus on the here and now, after all the table doesn't lie and IMO does it really matter whether or not we're a 'big club' in league 1?? Its time to dig deep lads.
Corky Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 To be honest it doesn't bother me what other people think of our club. I think our club is the greatest, nothing will ever change me from thinking that, that's all there is to say on this matter.
Raj Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 We are the biggest, greatest club ever. In the world. Ever. FACT!
dandannieldanok Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 According to Steve Claridge's theory of which he explained on 606 last night, "the size of a club is determined by the size of its fan base", then yes we are a big club.
Sir Alex Ferguson Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Leicester City are definatley a 'big club' i go to university in sheffield and everyone you meet rate Leicester as a big club and the position we are in is awful compared to the size and stature of the club
Uncle Albert Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Leicester City are definatley a 'big club' i go to university in sheffield and everyone you meet rate Leicester as a big club and the position we are in is awful compared to the size and stature of the club Welcome! I agree with you 100%. We are known for being a big club, but i couldnt care if people thought we werent really.
