Dr The Singh Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Sounds good to me where do i apply?? Too late matey, close of applications was yesterday!!
Tabou Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 We are currently recruiting an office girl..... In Kettering...
Monk Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 In the early stages of your career it's certainly beneficial to add to your CV like this. However you need to make sure you are doing the correct qualification. I can't speak for formal IT development in general, but most of my job is VBA development in microsoft office. I don't have a specific qualification for it but I got there via chipping away at it in various jobs until I finally got hired specifically as a developer. What I'm trying to say is that there are ways of achieving the same level of career progression without doing a formal qualification in some cases. I'm currently studying the Prince 2 project management methodology. Now if you want a recession proof job, that's the qualification to go for. It's easy, just a lot of information to take in. The exams are £600 though! However like you I am using it as a springboard to get me up to the career level I want to be at. It could double or even triple my current earnings!
Master Fox Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Too late matey, close of applications was yesterday!! Gis'a job Singh. I'll be willing to emigrate Leicester. I need something new..
Steven Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 In terms of going back to school, I did it, and its the best thing I ever did. I left at 18 having made a mess of my A-levels, got into a relationship for 2 and a half years and thought my days in education were finished. Then the relationship ended, so I had to return to my parents' home. I got myself a job in Morrisson's in Hinckley, dead-end and disatisfying. It was getting me down, so I sat down and had a real think about my future. I decided to go back to college, sit my A-levels, and do what I had always wanted to when I was younger - get myself to university. I've done that now, at the age of 24, and I love every second. I find the subject matter stimulating and I really can't wait to have a career in psychology when I'm finished. This isn't me preaching about uni by the way, I do realise that its not the be all and end all, and that success is achieveable without it. But it was what I wanted to do. There is nothing wrong with starting over again is my point I guess. Never be too proud to take what to some looks like a backwards step if it will get you where you want it to in the long run. You get one life, so make sure you spend it doing the things that you always hoped that you would. Top notch advice.
Dr The Singh Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Gis'a job Singh.I'll be willing to emigrate Leicester. I need something new.. What qualifications do you have and what do you have to offer experience wise????

Daggers Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Looks like your URL is malformed. It's why I left the gay porn industry
Master Fox Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 It's why I left the gay porn industry Good business to be I hear? People say you need to be firm and stiff, willing to take the hard with the smooth. Tiring profession I would imagine?
Darkzzz_ Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 I am already an office girl in Kettering Tabou!!!
Joe. Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Life's too short to not follow what you want to do. Think about things thoroughly, weigh up whether it's going to benefit you in the long term run of things or not and then go for it.
hebangsthedrums Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Slightly different way of looking at things, but maybe consider what companies you want to work for? I started a new job a couple of months ago and to be honest would not have considered doing it a few months previously. However I really want to work for the company and its been made clear that if I do well and put in the graft there is plenty of scope for movement. Companies that allow you to develop - courses, skills etc are excellent. I know I don't really want to work in finanace long term, but its a good grounding for me post uni, the people are fantastic and I really am *winces* proud to work for the company (or maybe I've just been assimilated). As an aside, Monk how you getting on with prince2? I was very close to starting learning end of last year to help me get a civil service job, even bought the pocketbook. In fact if you're looking to sell on your books in a few months let me know - may still give it a whirl, another string to the bow etc
Monk Posted 26 March 2008 Posted 26 March 2008 Prince 2 is slow going. It isn't complex but there is a large amount of syllabus to cover. There are 2 exams - foundation (multiple choice) and practitioner (essay). I'm hoping to take the exams in July, and yes I may decide to sell on the books afterwards. I'll get back to you on that one. Definitely a worthwhile qualification to do though. I've got PM friends in banking on hilarious contracting rates - £600 - 700 a day! One day....
Monk Posted 26 March 2008 Posted 26 March 2008 James if I become a PMM (Project Manager Monk) you can be my PMM (Project Manager's Monkey). I will then gladly hand you £20 and a double decker.
The People's Hero Posted 26 March 2008 Posted 26 March 2008 James if I become a PMM (Project Manager Monk) you can be my PMM (Project Manager's Monkey). I will then gladly hand you £20 and a double decker. Haha FOOL! I'd have accepted just the £20 or £19.55 and a double decker. Actually... is the double decker fridged?
Guest Posted 26 March 2008 Posted 26 March 2008 have any of you been in the same situation??Thanks Guys!! Yes, and I like the phrase "it's better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven't done".
Monk Posted 26 March 2008 Posted 26 March 2008 Haha FOOL!I'd have accepted just the £20 or £19.55 and a double decker. Actually... is the double decker fridged? Ice cold nice cold
