Darkzzz_ Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I am currently very unhappy in my job at the moment and have been unable to do anything about it for a while due to bills etc.... i have always been interested in studying for a Comptia A+ Certification so i can really get the job that i want and become a computer technician. The downside to this is do i pay stupid amounts of money for a course or do i go back to school for a year and get part time work. This is something i really need to do as soon as possible. So i just wanted your thoughts, have any of you been in the same situation?? Thanks Guys!!

Decide what you want to do and focus on doing it whatever and however. My youngest is brilliant at banishing doubts because, while he thinks his decisions through in some detail, once he makes up his mind, he pays fees, buys his airline tickets, books his accommodation, whatever is required and focuses only on achieving his ends. By paying up immediately the decision is made he avoids endless soul-searching, he makes dwelling on any doubts pointless and he also avoids his ideas being negated by changing circumstances or lack of personal moivation. As the advert said - Just Do It. We all make mistakes but continued uncertainty and indecision makes us do nothing and acts as a brake on our lives.
davieG Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I think the most important issue is which of those options provides the best training and therefore most likely to help you achieve success. The worst case scenario would be to endure all the stress associated with either option and then not succeed. You really need to go and investigate the individual who will be training you, what the facilities are like, how much support you will get because failure will not be an option for you. It would also be useful to know if any of them have links to potential employers, especially if any of them could be your part time employer as well.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Only you can really answer that mate, Also how do you know you will like being a computer Technician you should try work experience or something before you make up your mind.
Darkzzz_ Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 Thanks for that ! I was thinking of Computeach, they seem to provide a lot of support and also offer job prospects afterwards. Like you say, failure is not a option, i know i want this really bad so i know what i have to do to get it!!! Maybe i will have to struggle for a bit to succeed??!!
Asha Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Your looking at the original cost. Think about how much better your job will be, and also there would surely be a higher salary?
Darkzzz_ Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 Your looking at the original cost. Think about how much better your job will be, and also there would surely be a higher salary? Yes you are right!! The salary would be much higher....
Dr The Singh Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Yes you are right!!The salary would be much higher.... I did a similar thing, i did a MSCE many moons ago, self funded ofcourse!!! Although experienced IT staff do earn a reasonable amount, I wouldn't expect to earn alot straight after qualifying, that's my experience anyway!! As soon as i got my first job, 6 months later it opened a whole lot of avenues for me!!! I would say the MCSE, was the best £2000 i've ever spent!! Good Luck!!
Asha Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Yes you are right!!The salary would be much higher.... Then you know it won't be long before the cost of the course will be worthwhile and it will take less time to pay off.

I was thinking of doing the microsoft certified course, maybe that could be a better option. I will read up on that. Thanks mate.
Dr The Singh Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I will have to check that out. I was thinking of doing the microsoft certified course, maybe that could be a better option. I will read up on that. Thanks mate. Both are good, it although the miicrosoft is a larger scope, the A++ is more specialised. It all depends whether you want to go into microsoft technologies or go into networking!!!
blue blood Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 have you thought about applying for junior roles within companies that found the qualifiations? that way you have the job, can work your way up and will save thousands on course materials, CBT's and exams. My company funds training and i have done CCNA (networking) and CCSA (security firewalls).
The People's Hero Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 My only advice is don't work in insurance.

purpleronnie Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Only kidding matey. I'm a computer project manager.
LeeCovFox Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 In terms of going back to school, I did it, and its the best thing I ever did. I left at 18 having made a mess of my A-levels, got into a relationship for 2 and a half years and thought my days in education were finished. Then the relationship ended, so I had to return to my parents' home. I got myself a job in Morrisson's in Hinckley, dead-end and disatisfying. It was getting me down, so I sat down and had a real think about my future. I decided to go back to college, sit my A-levels, and do what I had always wanted to when I was younger - get myself to university. I've done that now, at the age of 24, and I love every second. I find the subject matter stimulating and I really can't wait to have a career in psychology when I'm finished. This isn't me preaching about uni by the way, I do realise that its not the be all and end all, and that success is achieveable without it. But it was what I wanted to do. There is nothing wrong with starting over again is my point I guess. Never be too proud to take what to some looks like a backwards step if it will get you where you want it to in the long run. You get one life, so make sure you spend it doing the things that you always hoped that you would.
Master Fox Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 The gay porn film industry has been good to me. Do you do Shemales?
Tabou Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Financial Advice chap. Get paid a decent lot of money for basically chatting to people, drinking their tea and coffee and accepting their bottles of wine , whilst letting the poor underpaid over worked office girlies do all the real work
