Mattock & Stearman

Am i right in thinking Mattock signed a new deal with us not long ago?

If he has then, it's simple, don't sell for what ever the price.

Even if we did get an unbelieveable price for him say £7.5m for example (which we won't), we would only waste it on other under performing wasters and not sign any more talented players.

We have a talented player in Mattock, and to sell him for any price would be ridiculous.

Not really.

Promising at he is, if a big offer came in we'd be stupid to turn it down. He's not that good to make him unsellable unfortunately.

So if some-one stumped up £12 mill you would turn it down? Bollocks, everyone has a price I'm afraid. For the exception of cristiano Ronaldo, he is literally priceless.

Too right. People slated him in Nov/December time? Where are you all now eh? lol

I'm right here. :wave::dunno:

I was slating a player that was putting in some quite frankly disgusting performances.

He's improved since and is now getting the praise he deserved.

A lot of players were at the time putting in 'distgusting performances', yet he was unfairly singled out.In my opinion

You're right they were, but Stearman had been putting in bad performances for much, much longer than a few games. For me Stearman had never shown the promise he did after the first 5-10 games he played for us until around now, and it just wasn't good enough.

Yeah, but his were on a different level. Hull away springs to mind, coming on late in the game. Gave away the ball about 5/6 times and walked around the pitch like he was to good to be there. That was typical of his earlier season form. Not looking bothered and not being able to play a simple pass.

Holloway and countless other managers seem to have got through to him though, fair play to the lad.

I think it's the curse of being a fullback at Leicester. Since I started watching Leicester, it always seems to me that if any player is going to get abuse, it is more often than not the fullback (or wingback when we played those).

Grayson

Whitlow

Guppy

Impey

Jordan Stewart

Johansson

Maybury

The only time a fullback doesn't seem to get abuse is if there is someone clearly worse, like your Junior Lewis's or Akinbiyi's.

Let's hope Stearman bulks up and gets moved to centreback pretty sharpish.

... Alan Rogers, Lee Marshall

(although, in fairness, they both actually were rubbish and would have been abused whatever their position!)

I was one of those who slated Stearman, and I still stand by a lot of what I said. Let's get one thing out the way - there's no doubt he's improved since Christmas, in all fairness he couldn't get much worse.

I still think he's massively overrated though. Defensively, he's toughened up, but still liable to get beaten a bit too easily. Going forward and his use of the ball is still poor. He gets forward often, but to what effect?

And he'll never be a centre back unless he significantly bulks up - he lacks strength and isn't convincing in the air.

Sums up what I was going to say really. Good post.

little Mattock scouting report here by super stevie

Joe Mattock, Leicester City

Steve Claridge

Tuesday March 25, 2008

The Guardian

These are parlous times for my old club Leicester City and, while I sincerely hope they have too much quality to fall into League One, the lack of confidence in the team is palpable. In the maelstrom stands Joe Mattock, a 17-year-old left-back who has been creating a buzz for some time due to his prominence in England youth teams. His most recent promotion took him into Stuart Pearce's Under-21 squad.

:crylaugh: Big words for Claridge - like palpable, maelstrom, prominence.

Stearman has improved the last few weeks/months but before that was awful, The whole team has been awful but as an individual, and seeing the potential he has it was so fustrating to see him be that poor, for that long.

Having said all that dependent on the offer i'd probably still welcome a move for Stearman with open arms.

Mattock, I don't think so, with his potential value for the future it'd be stupid to sell now, besides I read Mattock turned down Chelsea last season because he knew he'd have more chance of playing first team football here which he is.

Although as I said the other day I wouldn't be too bothered if even our best player went. Fuk em all. (I couldn't tell you who our best player was, Not sure we have one)

Perhaps Stearman's recent good performances are all down to the fact that he thinks he can put himself in a shop window. Then at the end of the season, he can leave.

Cheerio chaps! Have a nice day :scarf:

(I wouldn't be too bothered if he left to be honest).

Stearman has improved loads this season. He gives 100% every game. He is one of the few who cares about the club, as he is a local lad. Any one who says he has been poor must not go to the games, and must rely on those muppets on the radio for the opinions! :)

Yeah of course mate. Me, Ched and many others just listen to the morons on the radio  Stearmans performances before christmas were shocking to say the least. However the last 3 months he has been impressive.

By now Stearman and Mattock should have been joined by other young players of ours who are just as good and whose style would help bring the best out of them ... people like Gradel, Wesolowski, King, Beswick, and the now virtually departed Shush!.

Not only would we have been developing a smooth-passing attacking team but there would be a real sense of comeraderie at the club instead of this constant coming and going of endless inadequate or unsuitable players who, far from helping, have served to stunt the progress of the ex-Academy players and severely limit their playing time both in the reserves and from the first team bench.

Instead of working on our pedigree, City these last two seasons, have become a mongrel outfit where almost anyone from anywhere can find himself contracted, pick up a shirt and have his chance (Dodds excepted!) , albeit it a short one.

No-one seems to understand that new signings should be carefully chosen for their ability to do a particular job and to contribute consistently, both on matchdays at the training ground, to a pre-conceived ideal. They shouldn't simply be signed up because they've won international caps or were once registered at half decent clubs and are available.

But I waste my words. With MM he always wants things yesterday and if he doesn't get em he simply slings some more money at the problem for whatever that does, which isn't a lot after year one.

In fact my impression of the new regime is that no-one has the faintest idea of how to build and develop a team.

And one thing's for sure. You don't start by wasting an entire close season.

Yeah, i think Ollie should've stuck with the younger players. Another player i believe has alot of potential but didn't have time to show it is Jonathan Hayes. Hopefully we wont go down, but if we do at least alot of the younger players will get there chance to show what they can do, and if we can keep them all i think we will be a team who plays great passing football

I like both of them and want neither to leave as I think they have a big future and part to play here at City...

Mattock, OK, hasn't been that good this season but he is VERY young still so I am hoping that he'll come good eventually.

Stearman, well, he's been a revelation this year under Ollie... he's really come into his own and is probably one of the best we have at the moment.

Yeah definitely mate. I think I've only seen us play 38 times all season! Thank god the callers on Radio Leicester. :worship:
