davieG Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Skysports.com understands a host of clubs are tracking Leicester duo Joe Mattock and Richard Stearman. The Foxes pair are regarded as two of the best young talents outside the Premier League and the duo's performances this season have seen scouts flocking to the Walkers Stadium to watch both players. Mattock made his debut for Leicester last season at the tender age of 16 and Leicester turned down a bid from a mystery Premier League side for the teenager's services during the January transfer window. A number of scouts are expected to watch Mattock in this week's England Under 21 clash with Poland as they look to keep tabs on the full-back's progress. Versatile performer Stearman has established himself as a key member of the Foxes side since making the breakthrough at the Championship outfit in 2004 The 20-year-old is believed to have attracted interest from Sunderland last summer, but Leicester were unwilling to let him leave. Several Premier League sides are monitoring the duo's situation, with Leicester facing a fight to keep hold of their prized assets. Leicester know they face a losing battle to keep the duo if they suffer relegation, with several Premier League sides willing to offer Mattock and Stearman the chance to ply their trade in the top flight.
DB11 Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Mattock will become good but he shouldn't be in the first team just because of his potential. We've conceded a lot of goals because of his inexperience and letting players get round him.
Ric Flair Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Well Mattock will become good but he shouldn't be in the first team just because of his potential. We've conceded a lot of goals because of his inexperience and letting players get round him. He's also played games this season where he's been the best player on the pitch and shown his obvious talents. At this stage of the season we need to both be keeping it tight at the back and scoring goals. Something Mattock sometimes has trouble with, but then again Clapham is dog mess going forward and unless we start playing a proper left winger it means we're going to suffer down that side if Clapham plays. Mattock's attacking play has improved recently and didn't deserve to be dropped on Saturday. We need something from somewhere to save us. Sometimes these youngsters are fearless, he certainly didn't seem effected like the rest of our players did at the back end of last season when we looked doomed. Preston away he was unbelievable. We need more performances like that from him and others around him.
Mr Happy Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Well if we do get relegated then surely its partly their faults which'd mean they ain't as good as everybody thinks yet. Personally I like the pair of them, potential to develop into great players after all they werent/arent in the england u21 setup for nothing

Well if we do get relegated then surely its partly their faults which'd mean they ain't as good as everybody thinks yet. Personally I like the pair of them, potential to develop into great players after all they werent/arent in the england u21 setup for nothing Those two are one of the few players that have preformed well this season. If we went down very little blame would be put on their shoulders. Stearman was awful at the start of the season but has found his previous form and improved rapidly.
breadandcheese Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Go back 3 months and see the remarks on Stearman. I'm glad he's shown his worth because I felt he was getting a lot of unfair stick and just needed the right management. Now he's playing much better and is arguably one of the best performers at the current time.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 They have bright future's and hopefully it is with Leicester. If we get relegated (which we wont) i can see them going to a Premiership club. West Ham or Aston Villa would be good places for the pair of them to go to. I thought maybe Stears would get an Under 21 call up for the game tonight but wasnt to be. Hopefully Mattock can whip another ball like the one at WBA and Stevie Taylor can get his head to it.

People who were unhappy with the level of his performances, fair enough but some of the shit being posted on here about him was outrageous.

To be honest the whole team\squad have been poor throughout the season at various times, that why we are where we are!! Stear's has pulled his sleeves up and is up for the battle ahead, let's hope others can take heed from it!!!

Stear's has pulled his sleeves up and is up for the battle ahead, let's hope others can take heed from it!!! Miracles dont happen at Leicester City though. I can see exaclty what you are saying though mate. From the Hull game i could only see 3 players who were fighting for everything and who looked to be showing passion for Leicester and that was Stearman, Hendrie and Kisnorbo. Other's may see it different but i think alot of players at the club do need to have a wake up call and they need to show to Ollie and the fans how much Leicester City actually means to them.
Mark Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 If Mattock leaves it should only be for a top 4 club or Spurs, it's a waste of time going anywhere else cause he is going to make mistakes in the Premiership at his age and they'll be more costly, his career could potentially be put on hold which would be a great shame. At least at one of the big clubs he's going to get the best training around and working with the best players so is going to improve as a player before being thrown in... when he's ready he'll play. On the other hand he could just be loaned back out. I think the best option is to stay at Leicester for at least another season, Joe

Defending, however, he is not as good as the likes of Clapham. From my point of view I'd much rather have a left back defending than attacking. Play a left winger to attack.

People who were unhappy with the level of his performances, fair enough but some of the shit being posted on here about him was outrageous. I think it's the curse of being a fullback at Leicester. Since I started watching Leicester, it always seems to me that if any player is going to get abuse, it is more often than not the fullback (or wingback when we played those). Grayson Whitlow Guppy Impey Jordan Stewart Johansson Maybury The only time a fullback doesn't seem to get abuse is if there is someone clearly worse, like your Junior Lewis's or Akinbiyi's. Let's hope Stearman bulks up and gets moved to centreback pretty sharpish.
Micky Ruddle Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 As much as i hate Stearman, i now believe we shouldn't let him go, nor Mattock. Despite Stearman's woeful so called performance on Saturday, we actually need to build the team around them.

Apart from one misplaced pass down the right flank (there should have been a man there, too) Stearman was one of our better players by a long way.
Kilworthfox Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Stearman Sell £400k+ Mattock we should keep unless bid of £2mil+

I agree with this but it has to be said that being one of Leicester City's better players doesnt mean naff all does it? You dont have to do much to look outstanding in our team at the minute!!

If we get relegated they will both go, if we stay up then maybe not. I can't blame them if they do leave, if a prem cluib offered for me at that age I'd do the same thing, it's like getting a promotion in any job! Only time will tell. Which clubs would be interested in either? I also think putting them in a better team would make them perform better as individuals. Pretty obvious though..

I distinctly remember asking why you had Richard Stearman in your avatar if you didn't think he was very good.# Too which you replied "It's just an avatar"

Maybes Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I disliked stearman and still do really. He was very poor pre christmans however in the last 3 months he has consistantly been one of the better performers
Joe. Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I'll admit I was one of those who gave Stearman a lot of stick. But it was definitely deserved at the time, he was playing awful. And as I gave him stick, I've also given him credit for the way he's booked his ideas up, started showing some fight and putting in some much better performances. As for Mattock, he's definitely a player who's showed promise for us and I hope in time he will mature much more because there are still some vulnerable aspects to his game. I would call him a much better left winger for us than a left back purely because of his vulnerability at times. But he's had a great season making his way into the under-21 setup, well done to him.
Thracian Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 By now Stearman and Mattock should have been joined by other young players of ours who are just as good and whose style would help bring the best out of them ... people like Gradel, Wesolowski, King, Beswick, and the now virtually departed Shush!. Not only would we have been developing a smooth-passing attacking team but there would be a real sense of comeraderie at the club instead of this constant coming and going of endless inadequate or unsuitable players who, far from helping, have served to stunt the progress of the ex-Academy players and severely limit their playing time both in the reserves and from the first team bench. Instead of working on our pedigree, City these last two seasons, have become a mongrel outfit where almost anyone from anywhere can find himself contracted, pick up a shirt and have his chance (Dodds excepted!) , albeit it a short one. No-one seems to understand that new signings should be carefully chosen for their ability to do a particular job and to contribute consistently, both on matchdays at the training ground, to a pre-conceived ideal. They shouldn't simply be signed up because they've won international caps or were once registered at half decent clubs and are available. But I waste my words. With MM he always wants things yesterday and if he doesn't get em he simply slings some more money at the problem for whatever that does, which isn't a lot after year one. In fact my impression of the new regime is that no-one has the faintest idea of how to build and develop a team. And one thing's for sure. You don't start by wasting an entire close season.
maddog Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Am i right in thinking Mattock signed a new deal with us not long ago? If he has then, it's simple, don't sell for what ever the price. Even if we did get an unbelieveable price for him say £7.5m for example (which we won't), we would only waste it on other under performing wasters and not sign any more talented players. We have a talented player in Mattock, and to sell him for any price would be ridiculous.
