davieG Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Holloway on look-out to sign more men on loan by Bill Anderson Ian Holloway is again scouring the loan transfer market as he bids to pull Leicester City back from the brink of the drop. Thursday is the absolute deadline for loan-transfer signings and boss Holloway will be looking until the last moment to sign one or two new faces who might just turn things round. The big problem is that the players already at City have, on several occasions, shown they have the right level of ability to do the job but not in enough matches for City to be safe from the drop. The latest reversal of fortunes, crashing 2-0 at home to Hull on Saturday on the back of a tremendous win at West Brom in the previous game, underlined the damaging roller-coaster of form and results for City in the Championship. Holloway shares the frustration of the fans. He, too, felt a corner had been turned at the Hawthorns, only for Saturday's setback to confirm that nothing can be taken for granted with his squad. A couple of last-ditch additions could make a difference and Holloway said: "This is a really strange season, a strange scenario, with six games left and we have to make the most of them. "We have got good players who are not performing well enough and I am more concerned about their mentality. "We went one down on Saturday and I was expecting a resurgence but it didn't happen and that was not good enough. "But we can bounce back on Saturday because I think we are good enough to do the job." It is the contrast between the last two performances which is hard to bear. City wanted to cash in on a home fixture for three vital points and Holloway admits his frustration. He said: "We could have put ourselves out of sight against teams around us in the table like Preston and Southampton, but we keep tripping on that hurdle. "Some clubs down there do have games in hand but that doesn't always mean much when you are down near the bottom and don't forget we have one of them, Sheffield Wednesday, at home." Indeed, City's three remaining home games are against fellow strugglers S****horpe, Colchester and the Owls.
DB11 Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Another Geoff Horsfield, Luigi Glombard and Sean Newton out of desperation? No thanks.
Flynny Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Oh for fook sake. We lost to Hull. They're a good side. Let's not over-react like this. Who does he want to replace?
The People's Hero Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Danny Invincible. Its got to be. I've waited so long.
Brainy Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Another Geoff Horsfield, Luigi Glombard and Sean Newton out of desperation? No thanks. They were Rob Kelly's signings, and err, he's not here anymore. Shaun Newton >> Etuhu

DB11 Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 They were Rob Kelly's signings, and err, he's not here anymore.Shaun Newton >> Etuhu Just examples of desperate loan signings, regardless of who signed them
Flynny Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 And if he doesn't manage to get anyone They will feel really needed and be full of confidence I don't see who we're going to get who'd be an improvement. We have good players in every position now, sometimes two. He needs to sort our gameplay out, and thats his responsibility.
Ric Flair Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 We need a striker with pace, who can finish and can work out where any flick-ons from Howard are going to roughly land. We need a leader on the pitch who can inspire those around them and if need be, ignore Holloway's ineptitudes and sort out the mess on the field. If they can lay a new pitch as well, then that would be brilliant. We need some defenders who can pass the ball and see hoofing the ball as a complete last resort.

Just about fulfills most of that. 2. Hendrie. 3. A backline of Stearman - N'Gotty - Kisnorbo - Clapham has quite a bit of passing ability.

Desperate times require desperate measures!! Holloway should keep his mouth shut, by saying he needs more players, it will only deflate the confidence of those he has further!!!!
Number1flanker Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 We're tryin 2 sign Emile Mpenza from Man City !!! 1/2 of our team are loanies and they r all crap Shows Ollie dnt have an eye 4 talent
The Stig Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 We have a good enough side to avoid relegation, we just need the manager to install some confidence in them. Bringing in more players won't do that, it will just unstabalise the ship. As Flynny said, this appears to me a bit of a knee jerk reaction. But I'll see who he gets and how they preform before I judge him on this decsison. I hope I'm wrong Ollie.
The Stig Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 We're tryin to sign Emile Mpenza from Man City !!!1/2 of our team are loanies and they are all crap Shows Ollie doesn't have an eye for talent I can't agree with that. As I've said, we have the ability, just no confidence or professional consistancy.

A backline of Stearman - N'Gotty - Kisnorbo - Clapham has quite a bit of passing ability. I'd tend to agree with you on those first two. Hume though, appears to be injured and Holloway doesn't like playing him up front even though he's our top scorer. Hendrie has moments of inspiration and his performance last week, by all accounts was superb. But does he inspire the players or just the fans? N'Gotty, Kisnorbo & Stearman are 3 of the worst culprits for hoofing the ball, sadly.
Mr Happy Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 And if he doesn't manage to get anyone They will feel really needed and be full of confidence I can't agree with that. As I've said, we have the ability, just no confidence or professional consistancy. We don't need more loanees, they'll just add to our problems. We really need to concentrate on the players we currantly have and get them working as a team, showing their true potential because at this time nobody seems to have taken the leadership mantle yet and we're like a runaway train heading down the track, trouble being this track leads to league 1 so unless somebody takes control....

Spot on.
James. Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Does this not strike anyone else as really naive management from Holloway? Why the f**k are we still trying to get more players in? We SURELY must now have broken some kind of record for the number of different players to play for one team in a season. It's just making a bad problem worse. In fact didn't Holloway or Mandaric come out recently saying part of the reason for our season being so shit was because of having too many new faces and too much change. What the f**k? We are a joke. Shame I'm not laughing.

We are a joke. Shame I'm not laughing. Yes. It smacks of desperation, a lack of confidence in the players here already and a lack of belief in his own ability to inspire what he's got. Why should any manager lose consistently with our squad and how does any manager think he can integrate new players effectively at this stage? Psychologically, we don't seem to have a clue.
teblin Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I'd tend to agree with you on those first two. I think they may well be doinf what they are told.
Asha Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I would be fine with new loan additions to keep us in the league. If they're not that good, we don't need to keep them. Our priority has to be staying in this division, we can't plan any further without knowing which division we'll be in.
The People's Hero Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 What they need is a fu cking kick up the arse. I don't care about pressure. They are professionals. Where is their professional pride? Ar se.
davieG Posted 25 March 2008 Author Posted 25 March 2008 Time to call in these guys, one of them maybe dead but he'd still be better than our current shite. We need a bit of this!

Yes but the question is will more singings, loan or otherwise, be counter-productive? I don't believe the problems lie with the quality and ability of our current squad of players. It is motivation, tactics, organisation and desire that need to be addressed and bringing in more players won't help any of that. It is down to Holloway and Holloway alone to sort it out. Signing a couple of loan players just gives Holloway two more excuses for a shit performance.
