Sounds pleasant, I've had a tiring day and I'm absolutely gassed so a nice film will do me well I think.

Don't lose concentration though, it's hard to follow.

This film will put the colour back in your cheeks, no doubt.

I was going to watch it but I went out Fritz.

Watched about half of that benefits panorama. Not really sure what their point was. I've never been a fan of the idea of a benefit cap as it makes far more sense to build a fair benefit system from the ground up. The moral of the story seems to be you can still live off benefits so long as you don't live in an affluent area.

Some of the rents that the council were paying were a massive shock to me.  Something clearly had to be done.

Not watched it. I have recorded it but from what has been said about it I don't think I need to. Do people still think that the BBC is biased towards the left? Or was the programme a true reflection of todays society giving a balanced view?

It was nothing to do with left or right.

It was showing the absolutely absurdity of our housing and welfare system whilst also showing just how ungrateful people are.

People who have literally been given a free life were moaning about it. I don't think even the BBC can get away with it anymore.

Although one thing I will say, I don't think it's any coincidence whatsoever that the BBC has started to appear more politically neutral as parliament has put the wheels in motion to analyse whether a compulsory licence fee is fair and proper and decriminalising non payment might be the way to go.

The BBC has never really struck me as politically biased. I would say it tends to favour the establishment. The only people who complain of bias are usually biased themselves.

The benefits program could be summed up as giving people rope to hang themselves. It's hard to tell if it was biased because you would need to know how it had been edited. Did they cherry pick scenes and quotations to make the claimants appear entitled and ungrateful? Or were the claimants like that anyway?.

I've met enough people to suggest most of these people are genuinely deluded that they have a human right to live in any area they please, raise as many kids they please and choose their working hours.

I find it funny that David Cameron has come out and said he is doing God's work by cutting benefits for those on lower incomes.

Was anyone lin a similar situation to this woman featured? She has severe epilepsy with attacks occurring any time day or night and when her ex-husband  moved back in as a care they were told he had to share the same room and pay 25% BT. She has just won her appeal against the decision. There are many more appeals cases going through the courts awaiting judgement.

I have no doubt that the ones in the programme were undeserving of all that they claimed but they are are not the majority. As far as I can tell by what has been posted it was mainly unemployed that were shown who did not want to work and not those in low paid or part time work. Maybe those have just not been mentioned in the thread which leads me draw the conclusion.

People do have those rights, all of them.

What isn't a right though is free money.

What is free money? There is a set living income/wage  that is the legal right for everyone. Anything above that is taxed.

The money is put aside from what the govt collects from all areas including VAT and tax on cigarettes and alcolhol so anyone buying those items plus food and petrol pays tax of some form or another.

I am not against clamping down on those that take advantage as long as it does not drag those deserving of help and support down and is applied to all that defraud the tax system.

It's money given to certain people for doing absolutely nothing. It's the same as "free accomodation" where a family is housed and are incapable of paying for that, it's like when you into a supermarket and you see a "free sample" - you take a bit of it and then you don't pay for it. It's not that hard to understand, buying food with free money doesn't really make you a tax payer as tax is collected from those who earn, you are just paying someone elses tax for them as the money was taking out of their pocket to give to you in the first place.

If I buy a homeless guy a burger from McDonalds he isn't a taxpayer.

After the QPR game when you see me open your wallet and give it all to me, it's ok, I have not earnt it or done anything for it but I'm not getting free money as I'll be spending it on booze behind the bar and therefore paying tax.

I think she still has a few quid more than 6k in the bank so will not be able to claim benefits. Anyway she's she's only been moved to the back benches so still draws a salary.
