If you can't turn the water off, not even a plumber can help you. In any event how did you change the washer without turning off the water? Taps have more than one washer, it must be the other one. When you say the stop tap is "unreachable" do you mean it's too far into the ground? If so you need a tool that you can buy from any plumbers merchants to do that. If it's a hot tap there should be a shut off valve near the header tank in the roof.
cisono Posted 4 April 2008 Posted 4 April 2008 but there's never one around when you need one! Indeed. There will be lots of plumbers, but they will not be around. Perhaps they will be in the pub or something... but not available. Not unless you pay extremely high (top-up) callout fees.

Once you have isolated the supply, cut the pipe, fit a stop valve, and buy a new tap (u can get a nice mixer for bout 30-40 quid) and fit it. Aint hard...go on be brave!! If raj's contact falls through i will send u my cousins number he can sort it. What ever you do best off fitting an isolation valve so u dont have same prob in the future. Thay are about £2 at a local hardware store.
