brookfox Posted 6 April 2008 Posted 6 April 2008 Not sure what we'd do with another dark haired, Irish left back who takes good free kicks... Sunderland and Republic of Ireland international Ian Harte is supposedly subject of interest from Ipswich Town along with Championship rivals Leicester City and Norwich. The former Levante and Leeds left-back is currently on the transfer-list at the Stadium of Light and is reportedly willing to drop a division in order to play regular football. However, at the age of 30, Harte is no spring chicken but one thing that he would give Town would be his undoubted experience at the highest level which, as we all know, can prove to be an invaluable facet. Harte will find himself out of contract with the Black Cats in the summer so if he does indeed sign for Town he will come on a Bosman.
LcFc D3C Posted 6 April 2008 Posted 6 April 2008 Wouldn't be a bad signing and would bring experience to the team but to be honest clapham hasnt played that bad when hes played but would still have hartee!!!
DB11 Posted 6 April 2008 Posted 6 April 2008 Only if we get rid of Clapham. Anyway we were linked with him pre-season but he chose Sunderland instead. Serves him right
Ultra Posted 6 April 2008 Posted 6 April 2008 Harte was a quality player in his day, but has been in decline for at least the last couple of seasons. I suspect Roy Keane knows this, that's why he's looking to get rid. However unless and until Mattock is sold, the question of signing another left-back isn't applicable.
dandannieldanok Posted 6 April 2008 Posted 6 April 2008 I was never sure in the height of his career that there was anything else to his game other than free-kicks. I can't imagine he's improved much sitting on the sidelines for a season.

Well if he can defend and offer a free kick option that's more than Clapham & Mattock and would give Mattock more time to develop.

Father Ted Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 He is nothing compared to the player he was at Leeds. I'd take him on trial but I woould have to think several times before giving him a permanent contract.
dog_4 Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 bring him in the summer and don't sign clapham. Clapham tidy but nothing special
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 Got no idea what he's like anymore. I'd be suprised if any of you lot actually have a good idea either seeing as he had a season in La Liga, followed by seasons in the Spanish second division and on the sidelines for Levante and Sunderland respectively. He's a gamble.
CupidStunt Posted 8 April 2008 Posted 8 April 2008 Never thought much of him at anytime When he used to play against us,he was one of the weak links...he had no pace, and was reckless with the challenge No thanks
teblin Posted 8 April 2008 Posted 8 April 2008 Never thought much of him at anytimeWhen he used to play against us,he was one of the weak links...he had no pace, and was reckless with the challenge No thanks Much like Shush!.
i luv u foxes Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 well as it seems that alan Shush! is signing permantley with leeds according to sky ian harte would make a good signing as cover to mattock
Moreton Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 well as it seems that alan Shush! is signing permantley with leeds according to sky ian harte would make a good signing as cover to mattock Link?
Father Ted Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Link? Well his contract runs out in the summer and I don't think he will be coming back to us.
Rt Hon Percy Longprong Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 well as it seems that alan Shush! is signing permantley with leeds according to sky ian harte would make a good signing as cover to mattock He's a complete clown !!!!!
Fat Ron Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Will he still want to come here if we are relegated?
Vennegoor10 Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Harte would give us only the added bonus of his free-kicks, claphap is a safer bet in my opinion.
Geo V Posted 22 April 2008 Posted 22 April 2008 We'd still need cover, the question would be would Harte offer more than Clapham? He would do that, no doubt, but I think as Mattock has had 18-24 months near or in the first team and has continued to mature and grow as a lad, I think the time is approaching that we give him a tough pre-season and let him make that left-back possie his own. We have tried far too many left-backs over the last couple of years including Shush!, Chambers, Clarke, Clapham, Maybury etc etc and now that Joe approaches his 18th birthday and has had that experience for the u-21s, I think thats one position that we should persist with him from herein.
Ultra Posted 23 April 2008 Posted 23 April 2008 Mattock will be sold in the summer, whatever league we're in. Harte wouldn't be a bad replacement, certainly better than Clapham.
