SamL Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Lates...1294706,00.html A number of Leicester City first team regulars have been named in the reserve team squad to face Shrewsbury Town at the Marston's Stadium this evening (Monday).Boss Ian Holloway had a near fully fit squad available to him for last weekend's Championship fixture at Barnsley - meaning that a number of players were left on the sidelines on the day. But they will now have the chance to get some match minutes under their belts when the Foxes take on the Shrews at Hinckley United's home. No less than 10 players who have featured for the first team this season are named in the line up - including Ben Alnwick, James Chambers, Matty Fryatt, DJ Campbell and Kelvin Etuhu. The game kicks of at 7pm. A report will be available here on lcfc.com following the game, while highlights from the clash will be broadcast on Leicester City World on Tuesday morning. City: Ben Alnwick, James Chambers, Joe Mattock, Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, Harry Worley, Andy King, Kelvin Etuhu, Gabor Bori, Matty Fryatt, DJ Campbell, Zsolt Laczko. Subs: Ricky Sappleton, Carl Pentney, Bill McKay, Joe Magunda, Ryan Beswick. Yet another reserve game for Mattock. This is what has annoyed me about Ollie. I like him as a manager but in my opinion, Mattock is our strongest left back so why is he playing for the reserves again after Clapham had a fairly poor game against Barnsley?

Makes you wonder whether Our Joe has had a bit of a barney with Ollie. From what I recall, Ollie publicly said that Mattock had a mare against Sheff United and that's the reason for his removal from the squad, perhaps Joe has told him what he thinks of him. I hope that isn't the case and Ollie know's what he's doing, but for the life of me I cannot understand what a player of Mattock's talent is doing playing in the reserves given the choice left backs we have on offer and their recent exploits. Strong old line-up that tonight, think i'm going.
The People's Hero Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 We should close this thread about left-backs before the inevitable happens. He's already referring to his notebook - so it won't be long....

The People's Hero Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 why doesn't anyone talk about our right backs????? Do we have a young, sexy right back? Exactly.
Tabou Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Do we have a young, sexy right back?Exactly. You actually make me wee a little. I love you.
Ric Flair Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Do we have a young, sexy right back?Exactly. Only a mother could love our Richard.
Joe. Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Well I don't see it as such a bad thing that Mattock's in the reserves. Don't get me wrong, I like him but he's still very young and far from an accomplished Championship left back. Playing in the reserves shouldn't do him any harm at the moment while he's (rightly in my opinion) out of the side. Yes Clapham didn't have the best of games Saturday but he's a more accomplished and reliable player than Mattock. At the moment.
The People's Hero Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Only a mother could love our Richard. There is one exception that proves that rule. Richard Stearman lovers: 1) Mrs Stearman. 2) Darren Kenton.

That may have been the case in January and February, but for the past 2 months he has been injured for the most of it and Mattock's performances have improved no end. Players should be picked on merit and Joe has been better than Clapham for several weeks, the fact Clapham looks shattered about ten mins in to every game at the minute is also a piss take.

The People's Hero Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Are Kents and Stearz still blazin it up each weekend or have they gone their seperate ways since Kents went Leeds? They can't blaze up quite as often now as their main dealer has some sort of ankle injury apparently. I bet they still get up to all sorts of blingy, drug-fuelled capers with slappers of the calibre of which we can only dream. Allegedly of course.
Flynny Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 If that team doesn't piss all over them Taggs wants shooting. Monday reserve games are so much more useful for getting our players fit.
davieG Posted 21 April 2008 Posted 21 April 2008 Only a mother could love our Richard. What would Richard Stearman be if he wasn't a professional footballer? A virgin!

I like him as a manager but in my opinion, Mattock is our strongest left back so why is he playing for the reserves again after Clapham had a fairly poor game against Barnsley? I'm with Holloway on this one. a) It's been a big mistake how City have let the fitness levels of first team squad members drop and Holloway seems to be addressing this. b) If Mattock has been given certain aspects of his game to improve, something you might hope for, then where better than in the reserves to put those things into practice? I don't think it's unreasonable to play a reserve match on a Monday/Tuesday and then play in the first team squad on a Saturday. It's being idle that does for people and we've seen the consequences on occasions this season.

I dont think so. I think that ollie has chose clapham instead of mattock is these massive games because, of his experience and it is a good thing for a player to get 90 minutes under there belt.

If I was him I certainly would have. If I was Leicester born and Leicester through and through yet a 33/34 year old who hasn't played for 4/5 years gets picked ahead of me and my manager was taking my club downwards and his tactics were diabolical and would certainly tell him where to stick it.
RowlattsFox Posted 22 April 2008 Posted 22 April 2008 Joe Mattock is 17 and shouldn't be expecting to be playing week in week out and definitely shouldn't be complaining about playing reserve team football if he has done, is he starting to believe his own hype? There isn't a lot of difference between Clapham and Mattock at this moment in time, both have their strengths and both have their weaknesses, next year is an important year for Mattock, he needs to iron out his defensive frailties if he is going to live to his potential.
