Why are bothered about what some man from England did to someone in Wales years & years ago?

I thought Finnegan was just doing a bit of "light-ribbing". All of a sudden he doesn't seem quite so chilled.

I'd like to point to the sizable amendment I just made to that post. I realized after reading it it was substantially simplistic.

What? You think I'm wrong.

England did to Wales - Warred, annexed, outlawed culture and language, treated for decades as second-class citizens, mocked, abused and generally used.

Wales did to England. - Blew up a few water-lines. Got angry and lit a few empty holiday homes, generally had a bit of a whinge about. Oh. And spoke in 'a funny language with too many constanants' when you walked in with the Wrong accent?'

You don't think the Welsh (or Scottish or Irish) have slightly more reason to be irritated with England than the visa versa?

I don't care about any of that! And all that happen time ago, so what does it have to do with you? Did some English come round and pillage your house last night? Rape your Horse or run off with your priceless collection of stones?

Nationalism is good for some and bad for others I.E those who take it too far like you are doing.

On the point of Annexation if the "Welsh" did not like it they have a funny way of showing their displeasure when they can not even vote for a parliament to give them sovereignty, away from such brutal conquerors

And your still angry about that ? Get over it been years now forgive and forget. I think most countries have now.

England make Britian the superpower that it is.

:giggle:

In the grand scheme of things I am afraid Britain isn't a super power! Look beyond maybe America, china, Russia, India (in a few years).

With economic slowdown on the brink (if not already happening) I can't see it getting any better, the size of us population wise makes us look weak aswell. China have got over 1 billion people for goodness sake and will be the number one global superpower within the next 5-10 years.

From what Fez said, it was nothing so jovial.

And for the same reason they take a Jamaican flag with Sappleton written on it, probably.

What actually happened then? Not herd this.

He should of told the forking muppets to get fuked!

I'm simply pointing out that, imo, it's somewhat more understandable than the reverse anti-Welsh / Scottish / whatever "nobbery" (as MF probably fairly rightly put it) of English thugs.

More understandable? So are you saying you'd understand if I came out and said I hate the Germans because they're all a bunch of Nazi's?

I mean, after all, that was only just over 50 years ago.

Firstly, as I'm always fairly quick to emphasize, I'm not that bothered. Wales and Scotland have benefited from English rule the same way England (and the rest of the former empire) did from Rome. I'm as quick to acknowledge the pros as the cons (though let's face it, the cons make for far better e-drama

)

But I am, as many Welsh are, still irritated by what happened "years and years ago" because we largely still live with the effects. And moreover, it largely goes completely acknowledged by those that did it. I don't expect you to know what, purely as a solitary example, the Treachery of the Blue Books was - but incidents like that have shaken Welsh culture for centuries and I think the fact that we still live in the consequences gives people a considerable right to be somewhat pissed off, still.

I thought Finnegan was just doing a bit of "light-ribbing". All of a sudden he doesn't seem quite so chilled.

I was, at first. I'd like to point out that it wasn't me that took the tone a little frostier, really. Let's be honest if I made a thread about Dydd Gŵyl Dewi then most of you would take the piss. I thought it only fair I have a playful dig at St. George. Apparently I'm an insane and nationalistic bigot, however. English never could take a joke at their own expense.

I'm still bitter about the saxons.

I'm pissed with the cave men from beyond the indus valley!

I have to agree with MF, alot of nationalist behaviour is very negative, but being proud of who we are isn't a bad thing, alsong as we don't impede on others!!

Finnegan, mate, those things happened along time ago, the set of current english people no longer terrorise your kin. Alot of water has passed, although you shouldn't forget, you shouldn't hold a grudge either. As far as I know the Welsh could gain there independance at anytime!!!

I'd find it somewhat more understandable if, say, the Polish or the Czechs or the Dutch or, whoever else, were somewhat more pissed off with Germany than the Germans are with them - yes. I'm not saying I'd condone mistreatment but I could understand remaining tensions.

Couldn't you? :dunno:

I deal with Polish people on a daily basis and they hate the Russian much more than the Germans who they see as economic superpowers and who will help them become more prosperous!

People vote with their wallets and take a lot of baiting out of their comfort zone.

Though, incidentally, the entity that is "England and Wales" as depicted by that flag is coming further and further apart. Plaid's dismissal of the Rainbow Coalition and decision to ally with Welsh Labour comes bundled with the promise of a Welsh parliament not too dissimillar from the Scots, so obviously steps are being made, yes.

It was purely an example as JTB brought up the Germans. I've no idea how the Germans, Dutch, Polish or Czechs feel about each other.

Also in terms of Weapons and Army. England is second behind America and if anyone started on us ... We could just run to our bigger harder brother America and they would sort it out :giggle:

America rule the world and we our America's butt buddies = We're pretty much a superpower.

<_< Thats not true of us all. What a generalisation.

It's exactly like me saying all Welshmen shag sheep when all know it's just the majority, you should be ashamed.

As far as I am aware the Dutch Hate Germans more than we do! The Czechs hate the Germans also but not as much as the Dutch

I understand the English government are total bunch of arseholes that were accountable for what happened. But it’s this ridiculous nationalism that people use as an excuse to try and dig up the past in order to continue to breed hatred of another person, solely on the basis of acts carried out by the country’s government where they happen to live.

Being Welsh is no different from being English, Scottish, French, Greek etc

I could understand people from those countries having a problem with Nazism but having a problem with the German nation as a whole is a bit stupid and naive.

Thing is I've never really suffered any persecution so it's hard for me to know how I would react. It's a difficult one. I imagine there's loads of Welsh out there who couldn't give a f**k what happened years ago. They have moved on. For me, that is probably the best course of action.
